Turnpike Car Ride Host

Hey everyone (First time topic starter), I just got hired in as a ride host for the Turnpike Cars.. (altough i wanted a coaster) So how is runnin that ride? Is it laid back or fast? lol I would love to hear about what the deal with this ride!

Cam!

Your TL, Pete, is pretty cool. He was a 1st year on that ride last year. He likes Turnpikes probably as much as I like Sky Ride, so he's a really good fit for TL there. But anyways, car rides can keep you pretty busy if you're running a lot of cars, or really laid back if its only a few. I worked both Cad and Antiques for a day or 2 each last season. At the end of the day, you'll smell like a lawn mower engine. Even so, I still had fun while working at the car rides. I just don't like circulars. At Turnpike, you also have Calypso to run. You might be fine at a circular, but I hate them because I hate working alone. Its just so boring!

Sounds like an adventure

Whats up dude, yeah so I am the Team Leader of Turnpikes and I gotta tell you...it might seem like a lame ride to work because thats exactly what I thought when I found out that I was working that ride last year but I had the best time!

After working there and then working other rides like Wicked Twister or Maxair or Iron Dragon I couldnt imagine working anywhere else.

My suggestion is: Give it a chance, everyone I worked with there last year had the best time. A big part of it is not neccessarily the ride you work at but the crew that you work with.

I am a pretty cool guy and I hope you have just as much fun working there as I and many others did. If you have any questions let me know.

I had a roomate that worked at cedar point for a month and left because she didn't like the turnpike cars. She claims if she had a real ride she would have had a different experience. I beg to differ with her. If you like hours and you like working with the public and being active, it shouldnt matter what ride your working big or small. Its a cute ride.

Pikes was one of my second homes at CP. It is HORRIABLE TO WORK! Don't want to scare you away but you can always put in for a transfer if you hate it. You will either be dead and not have to do anything, or busy and will lose 10 pounds running up and down. It's either a love it or hate it type of thing. Calypso is horriable because the speil and music is annoying. You can press the estop button though.... one of the few in the park that you can touch.

Like I said, ITS ALL ABOUT THE CREW!!! If you have an awesome crew it makes even a so-called bad ride pretty fun and awesome to work.

You could work on one of the best roller coasters in the park and if you dont get along with your crew then its gonna suck no matter how cool the ride is.

Everyone's experience is different, if someone says its horrible maybe they went in to that ride with the mindset that it was gonna suck and thats why it did for that particular person...maybe someone who says a certain ride is horrible had a bad crew.

The point is you cant really take anyones word for any particular ride because there are SO MANY varibles that come into play, you just have to go into any ride with an open mind and experience it for your self.

I for one LOVED working Turnpikes last year (Calypso music and all!!!) and could not imagine working anywhere else (I can say that because I tried other rides and no matter what I ALWAYS wanted to go back to Turnpikes).

Well said Pete. We have it tough as TLs compared to many other rides. The car rides and Sky Ride, and circular triangles (matterhorn, giant wheel, and witches wheel) all seem to get bad reps. It is true that a lot of people don't like them and try to transfer as soon as they can. The thing I've noticed though, almost all of these people are ones who get to the ride with the mindset that the ride sucks and they will hate it. If you tell yourself something like that enough, you believe it. But on the other end, people who go to these rides and give it a chance, often find it to be the best location they worked at during the summer.

I myself have worked on coasters, circulars, Sky Ride, and car rides. Where did I keep going back to? The ride that arguably gets the worst rep in the park. Honestly, if I were not working Sky Ride again, though, I would want a car ride. Why? There is nearly as much physical activity, and its a very social type of ride to work. You are constantly right next to guests, and have plenty of opportunity to talk with them, and you work very close to your crew and can talk to them too.

Just keep an open mind if you are going to a car ride, triangle, or Sky Ride. They are all great places to work, especially if you like talking to people.

well, you could have turned the key on the carrousel to the off position when you worked our ride, but it's not the same thing....

Demon Drop, Giant Wheel, wildcat, are the best because they go down for a sprinkle.

Disaster transport also goes down for rain.... try explaining that one.

For watching storms come from the bay, Raptor and Millennium are said to be the best. To watch guests, Sky Ride. Its hilarious when the first big lightning bolt hits. Screams, then everyone runs like mad. Just one of the benefits of having your platform 20 feet above the main midway.

I am taking a stab in the dark but i but you would have to be a gas pump jock if you worked the car rides! lol nothing better than getting the feel of working at a gas station at cedar point

It's definitely fun to be on the Sky Ride platform when a storm is coming in. See Here

I worked Turnpikes for a day... it was interesting, Im not the best with balance and I kept falling off the cars while driving them into the station. All I remember about the day was all the little kids laughing at me as I fell.

gosh i feel old, i worked turnpikes in '85, my first summer at cp. it was a great ride to work back then. thats when we had the big queue with the big blue covering, and both tracks, before raptor. and those super-jets next door! but the girls at the pirate ride worked the jets back then. we had a great crew, it really does make the difference! have fun to whoever works the pikes this year.
