No kidding! It's just a joke, people. And a good one at that. :)

Apparently, those who read copyright law with afternoon tea forgot to actually go to the official site of copyrights, which clearly explains what a copyright can and cannot do, just becaue there is a "statement" on Cedar Point's website does not mean anything, their pictures are used all over the net, but you do not see them running about acting all high and mighty about it, now do you? here it is: www.copyright.gov, read what it says, then post things about copyright violation, but until you really know what you're talking about, shut up.

Also, I saw in the picture that it said 99 varieties of death, most of you forgot the part that said: for those who do not follow safety rules, hence, it implies no dangers about the ride, unless of course you're the idiot who stands up on rollercoasters

John Blount, you say dont criticize people for their opinion. Im pretty sure you said that this was a sick and twisted idea and anyone who thought it was funny is wrong. That is just contradicting yourself. You saying someone thinking something is funny is wrong then get your bullet proof vest on youre going to need it.

That was not funny at all. Whomever came up with that should be ashamed of themselves. There are other ways to get a good laugh, other than using curse words. That is something that is totally uncalled for. If you think that is funny, you must have a sick sense of humor. This is only my opinion, but, I'm not going to back down from it.

Here's what I said. I never once said that if you thought it was funny, you were wrong. So, I have never criticized anybody elses opinion. I also, never contradicted myself. I don't agree with a lot of the other opinions here, but, that's my opinion. If you look at all my posts regarding this topic, you'll see that for yourself. I think everybody's just upset with me, because, I went a step further with it. It's either that or you just don't like to hear an opinion different from yours. I'm more than open for other opinions, but, will stick up for myself if attacked.

As far as people, basically, saying I should get a life. I have a great life. I've been, very happily, married to the love of my life for 5 months now & wouldn't trade it for anything.

Now, if you want me to stop posting on this topic, stop bashing me for my opinion.

Blount,

I don't think anyone said you weren't entitled to your own opinion. You are, you can, and did voice your opinion here. What people get upset about is you go and tell CP like someones just took a shot at you with a gun. If you don't like it, don't look. But don't try to ruin it for the rest of us who have a "sick sense of humor". There's plenty of whorse evils in the world to get upset about. Don't sweat the small stuff dude.

Regardless of if there is nothing intended to be harmful by modifying the picture, they still have broken laws. A little something called disparate impact (unknowingly/unmeaningly causing undue hardship on another). Imagine a non-enthusiasts who had major reservations about riding Millennium Force because of the height. Seeing this cover would obviously impact their decision to ride because of the implied and stated "safety dangers" the magazine cover states. This all boils down to legality for CP and its picture uses. I could imagine that if this were to start turning into something with real bad publicity for the site, they may not continue to provide the general public with an awesome website and content which they have.

neo: No need to be a jerk to people, because you don't get it anymore than anyone else. How many intellectual property courses have you had? You're over-simplifying things. If the park wanted to exercise their right as a copyright holder, they could, and they may have a case.

It's a joke man. If you don't appreciate it then don't look at it, but don't ruin it for the rest of us who do enjoy that type of humor. I personally love it as it is suited for my sense of humor. Don't be a kill joy and report things -- if something doesn't hurt there is no need to be reporting to anyone.

Take a deep breath and calm down a bit.

That's just it. I may be hurting the parks publicity. With the recent political attacks against amusement parks and rides, the public needs as much truthful, useful, and informative information that is available to them. This may even go to the point of slander against the park. Read my previous posts on the 2nd page. I'm not saying I'm not surprised to see that someone did this, I'm just saying that this has crossed a line that shouldn't have been crossed.

Oh come on! No one is going to believe that this is a real publication. I mean just look at the website it comes from. Just unclench buddy.
Good grief. You'd think we were arguing over some major global issue or something.

How about everyone decides to agree to disagreeing?

Look, there are going to be people that think the image was wrong. And maybe they're right.

And there are going to be people that think it was funny. Are these people 'sick'? Probably not.

There's no point arguing about this whatsoever. No one's going to win the argument. No one CAN win the argument. There's no winning side to this. Each side is right to some extent.

Do you think that you can convine the people disagreeing with you to agree with you? It's not going to happen.

For those that find it funny, so be it.

For those that think it was wrong, so be it.

Are the people on one side of the issue 'better' or 'worse' than the other? No.

So if you find it funny, cool. Don't attack those that think it's wrong... they have their right to their opinion.

You know there's nothing good on TV when you're desperate enough to specifically look for infomercials.

Wait a second... an item on Something Awful is hurting the park's publicity? I can't see the readership of that site taking anything like this seriously. Now, if somebody started passing this around in an e-mail, maybe.. but not on the website.

Cedar Point vs Leonard J. Crabs.... now that would be an interesting one...

Everyone has to realize that even if you consider this bad publicity, it is still publicity. For the average coaster rider, they are going to see this and go to the CP web site to check out the ride and other specs. Some may find it offenseive, but unless CP does something about it, than they are encouraging it. If CP does not take it personally, why are you?

I can't believe I'm reading this. Do you guys have any concept of satire? Absolutely Reliable is all drunks, too, right?

I personally enjoyed the link. That's beside the point. It doesn't take much modification of a photo in photoshop or the like to make it a "photo illustration" which would no longer be protected the same way the copywrited picture would be. Also, satire is protected under the first amendment. This is according to the lawyer who teaches my media law class. Take it or leave it. It's just what he told me about it.

Some consider it funny. Others consider it repulsive. Cedar point probably considers it free advertising...even if they would have NEVER used the language or content.

Taking in account the number of people that probably go to that site I'm sure that they aren't going to cause a stink.
