TTD 2005 - Changes?

Well, Kingda Ka won't experience the sensor issues becuase it doesn't have the million prox sensors TTD has, therefore, in theory, the computer system won't be as picky as TTDs is.

How do you know how many prox sensors Kingda Ka has?

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

No change, it still runs like crap.

Anytime I go to CP (3-4 times a year) TTD is always up and running with minimal downtime. I just get lucky though.

Words of advise: Don't go to CP expecting the ride to be running 100% or even 75%. The ride doesn't run well, but it'd never change my opinion about the ride. TTD is by far the most intense, thrilling, fun, and exciting ride I've ever ridden, and "mechanical difficulties" will not change it. Intamin messed up, CP did a great job on the ride (as in location, name, looks, feel).

Kingda Ka is still closed because of the whole issue of getting the train over the massive hill consistantly.

Where is this proof , LOL sry but I wanna see where this info is it because I hope that ride doesnt open.

Why? Kingda Ka not opening isn't going to make TTD or CP in general any better.

Are you sure this isn't the Atlantic Ocean?

Kingda Ka is opening to the public on May 20th. Media day is the 19th.

Guess they were having some problems with the new blocking system.

Since I'm out in New Mexico, can you verify if the ride's control system now allows for trains to be stopped in the brake block and for trains to be launched once brake block is clear?

I'm curious if the park actually implemented a variation on a suggestion that I made a year and a half ago.

I believe they added another block (9 of them now). I do not know for sure if one can be stopped, but it appears like it can. That would be the assumption anyway. The drive tires and the brake fins obviously work a little different this year than they did last year.

Next time I'm down there I'll have to take another look and watch it run.

I say, Loose the launch, and the station with too many blocks and add a steep lift hill with a little drop turning down the big drop then, have it mingle around the water and tangle with millie. add some shoulders so the bigger folks can ride more often and a few intamin crazy__S, inversions. Change the trains to blue and black paint it white and black and call it "WaterSpout" as we have seen several times around the point. They can change the car racing sounds to high wind sounds and tornado type sirens. then they can change the music to "Hear comes the rain again" by the erythmics. hahahahahahahahahahahahaha sorry got carried away...

But it could work!

As smashmouth said, "Put away the crack before the crack puts you away."

Nothing has been changed with the rides blocks. Hold 2 still must be clear in order to launch, and Brake and hold 2 "merge" together like they always have. The original 9 blocks are still there and haven't changed. The way that the drive wheels and brake fins lower and raise is exactly the same as the past.

Well, then, I stand corrected.

TTD doesn't weigh the trains. It changes launch speeds according to the speed of the previous launch.

TTD does weight the train after it is full. When the train is in the station before departure to prelaunch the train weight is taken to adjust the amount of thrust needed for the train to clear the hill.

On a different subject. When TTD first opened i was there for 4 straight day s the second week of operation. Not once did I see a rollback. Not even during testing. It seems that all of the problems started when the cable broke the first time. I realize that a problem with the hydrolic motors is the cause for other problems. The only thing im wondering is why CP doesnt spend the extra buck to replace the whole launch mechinism so it was like it was when it had first opened (with the cable problem fixed). You'd think with all the technology we have that there would have been a solution expeciall with the long offseason they just had.

The trains ARE NOT weighed. Some of the reasons there are rollbacks are partly because the varrying weight of the trains.

Why the heck would you want the ride to be what it was like when it first opened? MAJOR improvements have been made to the ride since it first opened and doing what you suggest would be taking giant steps backwards.

What I would like to know is why there are so many people in cyberspace who think they know what should and shouldn't be done to make this ride more reliable. If you don't understand the mechanics of the ride or what is ACTUALLY wrong with it (which includes 99% of everyone who reads this forum), how are you going to present a valid, feasible solution?

Hopefuly Kingda Ka works for a week or 2. I'm going to SFGA on Memorial Day Weekend and would like to get to ride it at least once.

In regards to the theming of TTD, I liked the original look of the ride, but if stripping it down is part of what has made it more reliable, then so be it. If you can see the theming of the ride, then you probably arn't on it. And I'd rather be on the ride enjoying it, rather than sitting in the stands admiring it.

Bottom line:

The ride is more frustrating than fun for the park employees and guests alot of the time since Day 1.

MAJOR improvments include what. The ride still operates like it did just after the first cable snapped. And we don't know what is actually wrong with it but we all go off of what we are told. I do understand the mechanics of the ride and how it works but it just doesn't make sense to me that they had a working product for the first 2 months of the year with NO ROLLBACKS at all.

No Rollbacks in the first 2 months?!?! HA thats laughable. There indeed have been major improvements to the ride, it isn't obvious to the public/outsiders, but believe me it has improved.

So you think you understand the mechanics of the ride and how it works. Could you please enlighten us on what Pilot Pressure is and how its involved with the ride? How about the Bias/Speed Reduction? What about when a fuse is blown? How does that effect the ride? What does it mean when the backstop contractor is not open? What if the track disconnects are turned on? How does the temperature effect the Hydraulics and what is done to accomodate temperature differences? What causes a Drift to Hook and how do you fix it?
Like I said before 99% of people not associated with the park or maintenance dept. don't fully understand the mechanics of the ride, or how it works. The ride is far more complex than just saying theres a hydraulic motor with a catchcar and wire rope pulling the train down the launch track. You are obviously confused or misunderstood, after all you just stated a couple of posts up that the trains are weighed before each launch.

The park's maintenance department knows what they're doing more than some coaster enthusiast or anyone for that matter. There is no simple quick fix to just make everything all better. *** Edited 5/18/2005 5:11:40 PM UTC by Ohio State***
