That piece of track at the construction site could also just be a regular small hill ya know...
From the looks of it though, it'll be either a double up or a double down. A regular hill would just be a curved piece, this gigantic piece I'm talking about has a curve on one end, then it becomes straight, then another curve going up (or down, depending on the way you're looking at it). Basically it's like a ,---' sort of shape and is all in that one piece. We'll see what it's used for though, I'm thinking that odd area in the back where the brake run/ lift hill/ ascending/ descending supports are though, seeing as the supports are already there and they'd want the track on site in as soon as possible.
Ride Count at Dorney Park so far this year:
Hydra: 14 Laser: 3 Steel Force: 11 Talon: 18 Thunderhawk: 4
And that's just in 23 hours!

GAM man 68 asked:
Is it possible it could be a double down at the top of a lift hill?
Yes, I think so. I'm not sure how often Intamin has done this, but then again, they haven't ever built a coaster in the very back of CP either so who knows what we have coming? :)

Even when the midways were being constructed the focus of the park was not to break records, but rather to make thrill rides for the whole family. It seems to me that outside of the 90's and the past few years, this has been CP's consistent focus for rides.
What Josh says is very true. Growing up with CP in the 60's and 70's, the focus of the park was on family oriented rides, which was at the core of the new amusement park revival that was started by Disneyland. Some rides were thrilling, some scenic and slow, but most were very much family oriented.
Somehow, I think the "Coaster Wars" made the park focus a little too much on record breaking coasters. I think Project 2007 will go back to CP's roots because I feel this ride will be very appealing to the entire family, not just someone looking for extreme height and speed.
Fun and entertainment for everyone is what made CP into what it is today. A ride that everyone in the group wants to ride is much better for the park then a ride which is extreme and has half of the family standing around waiting for the rest to ride.
To me it looks like Project 2007 could be the smartest coaster design they have installed in a long time. A twisted, fun layout, that isn't high or fast enough to make your nose bleed, is just the thing that will attract lots of people to the ride and the park.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
You guys really need to learn how to use Google and Wikipedia. Steel Dragon had a wheel assembly fall off in 2003 and its been closed ever since. I think I read somewhere that its about to reopen this month though.
Dorney Park is a great little park. I went last summer for the first time and it was a blast. We had the entire park done by like noon though, maybe 1:00. :) I think we rode everything 4 times by the time we left. The wild mouse coaster has THE WORST line ever. Painfully slow.
Steel Force was wicked fun. I actually liked it a lot better than Magnum. Sure Magnum will always hold a special place in my heart, but Steel Force was awesome.
My favorite ride in the entire park though?? The Whip. :)
Oh yeah, Hydra was VERY disappointing.

Steel Dragon 2000 was built to beat out Millenium Force as the tallest and fastest coaster, but Steel Dragon broke a wheel (1/120) while people where riding it in 2003 and has been SBNO since, but is scheduled to reopen within a few weeks. Moreso though, the SBNO thing was due to Japanese traditions etc and they wanted to wait for another coaster to surpass it before it reopened. It is still the longest coaster in the world, and looks to be one of, if not, the best coaster there is. Glad you liked Dorney so much, it's a great park for coaster lapping and can be done very quickly too. Steel Force is amazing, and it was also fun to watch a lightning storm around it the last time I was at the park, it made it look commanding and like a huge force to be reckoned with. I'm sorry that you didn't like Hydra, but I think I know why, you left at 1:00, the best time to ride Hydra is from 9:00-closing when it's pitch black as there are no lights back in that area and gives an AMAZING ride, especially in the back seat which is very forceful. At least Hydra's better than Hercules which gave everyone I know that ever rode it whiplash on every occasion they rode it.

We stayed until park closing. I just said we were done with the park (meaning we'd ridden everything once already - including flats) by 1:00pm. I had very high expectations for Hydra and was let down. That's all. It definitely looks more fun than it really is. LOL!! I didn't hate it, that's for sure. I just wasn't as impressed as I thought I was going to be. Oh yeah, the Screamin' Swing was bad-a$$. I paid to ride that twice. Can't wait to hit up Skyhawk in a week. :)

I don't think the appearance of a coaster always is a good gauge as to the quality of the ride...

I forgot about that one. Odd, cause I was just on it last week. What an amazing ride. Except for that rough patch on the second drop it's as smooth or smoother than Magnum. Plus that huge helix makes for a much better turn-around than Maggie's pretzel knot. IMO.Which day were you at the park, I was there last thursday, july 27th, was a great day except for the heat and humidity and then the hour and a half of showers and lightning which led to me not getting 2 rides on Steel Force because the ride closed as soon as I got into the train :(. Meh, I still got 19 coaster rides in in about 6 hours of actual ride time, which isn't that bad and still had a great time with my friend and my cousin.
I was there the evening of Wednesday the 26th and the first half of the day on Thursday. It was part of my big park trip last week, which I wanted to post a TR about but I know it's a no-no here.
Both days, crowds were light. I waited in line five minutes for the front on Steel Force both days, a bit longer for Hydra and Talon, and pretty much walk-ons for Lazer and Thunderhawk. Man it was so hot. Dorney needs a lot more shade to measure up, in my book. And that stretch over by the waterpark is just atrocious. CF should take a page from Canada's Wonderland (which I was at on Sunday, 23rd) and plant more trees, invest in more landscaping. Anyway, I had about twelve rides Wednesday evening, and more than that on Thursday. Steel Force and Talon were terrific, everything I've heard. I wasn't that impressed with Hydra. Sure, it had interesting and novel elements like the jo-jo roll, but it just wasn't that exciting.

This is what I mean. Yes that piece could very well be a double up or down. As in this example (the red part of the drawing)

But the exact same red part as shown in this drawing could very well be just part of a small regular hill.

Well a question I have is are there any coasters with double ups/downs that also have OTSR. It could be done but I can not think of one that features one.
I believe if there is an up or down (even the other piece sunfire is talking about) lessens the chance of an inverted coaster, but aquatrax have OTSR as well I think. Whatever it is I am sure it will be fun though :).
The current aquatrax does not have OTSR.

Ok thanks for correction, I could have sworn from the pics it looked like OTSR must be my eyes playing tricks on me.
Saying that a park's direction 100 years ago is the same as today doesn't hold much ground. The fact is that management changes and ever since Magnum the focus of the park hasn't been anywhere near the old "a day at the beach." Cedar Point is known for breaking records and it wouldn't be as famous if they didn't work so hard to create that image. Why do you think they brag so much with new rides? How many parks go over 400 feet and 120 mph? That's Cedar Point's strategy regardless of what it was years ago.
Yes, Doctor Culex
Better yet, how many parks have four coasters that go over 200ft? Or two coasters over 300ft?

Sorry to change the subject a bit, but when I looked at the new staging area gallery on Point Pixils, I noticed that long sections of strait track have been added. I'm now pretty convinced that this is going to launch; I'm thinking a ride with many banked turns and hills similiar to Rita:Queen of Speed, but with a new train design that has riders riding a bull or horse. Also, this could use alot of the same technology on the Italian Job at King's Island, such as; speakers in the trains, trains that would swirve on the track, heavy theming, and multiple launches. I think that this would be a great compromise between a family ride and something thrill seekers would appreciate. What do you guys think?

I think Cedar Point already has one too many rides that you have to ride in a stradle position! (mantis)
No thanks!
