Thunder Canyon

ok first off, the only "horns" we heard back then was when the pumps were started in the morning? three quick blasts to alert that the water was starting. and yeah 22 rafts kept it very busy on the platform. we had like 9 platform ops at a time, constant loading and unloading. things were so different back then. only a supervisor could start the pumps in the morning!

Oh man, life would have been much easier for me if I didn't have to start the pumps every morning. When starting pumps, proper procedure is one long horn for 5, then three short for the mainwater pumps. Ray is talking about an E-Stop, which is four horns. I loved running TC, but there's no way I could do it again, once was enough. :)

Thunder Canyon is a wonderful ride to work.

First, it is a lot more social than any of the other rides in the park. You get on-to-one interaction with the guests, and 9 times out of ten they are going to be the best par of your day. No other ride location has as much opportunity to talk to guests individually. If the crew is up-beat and having a great time doing their jobs, that really shows through to the riders at a ride like TC.

As another old TL of TC, I second this, I didn't think I'd be as happy once off the Paddleboats, but it is a great ride to meet people and talk to guests. Something other than the typical throw people on a train and make sure their seat belt was tight.

Also working on Thunder Canyon means you get to watch Maverick fly by.

And time will fly by like crazy watching Maverick fly by ;)

Either that, or it will be extremely annoying. People in the rafts have a hard enough time hearing the ride hosts as it is, let alone with trains rocketing past non-stop all day long. The two rides are very close to each other. I would hate to work TC again with Maverick in the way.

Not to mention, if you're watching Maverick, you're not doing your job on TC, therefore causing potential harm to park guests.

My guess is you wouldn't be working TC for very long if you were watching Maverick.

It will be fun waiting in line for TC and watching Maverick fly by!

...Especially for the Special Access guests. They'll get an awesome view from the ramp.

CPboy77- true you may get to glance at Maverick... But your attention will be on your ride. Mistakes happen with complacency, and from what I remember about TC, the guys used to say it was a lot of running around, and if you have an E-stop all hell breaks loose.

I am one who also worked Thunder Canyon for a week during my contract. I was contracted for Raptor and they needed help on TC. I was reluctant at first but it was an awesome ride to work. I love the platform and being able to move freely and talk to the guests one on one. Also the morning track walk and test run (waterfalls off, of course). LOL! A great time, but it was nice to go back to Raptor.
