In my opinion (oppinion), in 5 years, you will have lost interest in working on Thunder Canyon.

sounds possible

Yeah, honestly, you will change a lot by then.

But hey, Thunder Canyon's a fun ride. I haven't been on it in 6 years, but from what I remember, I liked it.

Who are we to say if somebody's interests will change in 5 years? Some people know exactly what they want to do with their lives at 13, sometimes younger.

I don't think you want to work in Thunder Canton, though. I-77 can be a bear of a commute in the mornings. ;)

My author website: mgrantroberts.com.

That's right Mike, I-77 could be referred to as Standstill Canyon through Canton.

^^ - well, they have plenty of time to make that decision at that age now that they can't play tag at school.

I haven't taken a ride on TC in 10 years. But that doesn't mean it's a bad ride.

Everybody can dream...right? When I was 13, I would have loved to be on the corkscrew crew. But that was 21 years ago!

Yep, everybody can dream. I dreamed that by the start of this school year, I'd have a life. All I ended up with was another obsession!!

Only you have the power to change it from obsession to hobby. :)

True, but if it becomes an outright addiction I'm gonna have major withdrawl symptoms this off season!

Thunder Canyon is a wonderful ride to work.

First, it is a lot more social than any of the other rides in the park. You get on-to-one interaction with the guests, and 9 times out of ten they are going to be the best par of your day. No other ride location has as much opportunity to talk to guests individually. If the crew is up-beat and having a great time doing their jobs, that really shows through to the riders at a ride like TC.

Second, at times other than the middle of the day the ride is actually pretty relaxed. Of course safety is absolutely the top concern at all times, but the ride gives the crew a chance to relax. If there are enough people working platform everything should run very smoothly and you should be having a great time. Beware though, things do get crazy on those hot afternoons.

Lastly, be ready to run. Working a ride with such potential hazards you need to know what to do and how to do it at all times. The Thunder Canyon crew is notorious for how well they perform in instances of a shut down. Things hardly ever go wrong, but when they do the entire crew needs to be 100% on the ball. Trust me, the ride's perfect safety record is no mistake. Hours and hours are spent every summer getting the crew ready to operate the ride, and preparing them for the worst.

Overall, I loved my time at Thunder Canyon. It quickly became one of my absolute favorite rides to work. Over twenty years it has gained a rich history among employees, and not a person I have met has been ashamed to say "I've worked Thunder Canyon."

as group leader of its 2nd year in 87, i remember a great summer, a fun ride to work. we ran all 22 rafts almost everyday, i bet that doesnt happen anymore!

22? Ha! Most I had was 13 in the water, and another one in pieces behind the maintenance shed. I would LOVE to run that ride with 22.

hey, webber what year did you work on tc?

C Webber was the TL of TC this summer! :)

I was contracted for Thunder Canyon but when I processed in I got moved to Mean Streak. I had at blast working at Mean Streak though so it worked out. And I still made friends with Chris Webber. I worked TC for a week after asking to be cross trained there and it was alot of fun actually!

Running 22 rafts though... yea I'm okay with that. The 13 we ran on Saturday was more than enough. Esp. that little part when you hear those horns you don't want to hear and all you gotta do is run! For the most part it was a very layed back time. But you gotta be ready to move at a moments notice because a situation can happen at any second and you better be able to move! But hey if someone has their heart set to work TC, so be it!
