Early this season I was standing near the Magnum bathrooms and heard a loud pop. I looked around on the ground and found pieces of a lighter. I assume it fell from TTD and exploded on impact.

I do have a question. Can you ask for help to retrieve an item if it falls off on a ride? I know they say they're not reliable for lost or stolen items, but can they at least let you retrieve it from under a roller coaster or something?
If you lose an item, you have to come back at close to get it back. Ride operators can't shut down rides to retrieve guest articles because a guest was too stubborn to put their loose stuff in a bin/shelf/locker/non rider. If that were the case, rides would be down a lot more than they already are.
I was waiting in line for Gatekeeper and they closed the ride. A worker went up the stairs and got something that a guest lost. It turns out it was two vaporizers that fell out of someones pocket. Then i rode rougarou and saw an item that i shall not say. Im only going to say that the person shouldve thrown it away and not throw it on the brake run of rougarou.

On Sunday I was on gatekeeper and Beside me was one of my uncles and in front of me was my father and another one of my uncles now keep in mind we are all over 20 and not some obnoxious kids trying to snapchat it. Anyway going into the first airtime hill my uncle in front of me lost his iPhone 6+ which he had in his pocket it flew back and smacked me in the lip. But amazingly before it fell out of the car I was able to catch it. It gave me a fat lip and it was bleeding. I wasn't really upset since it was my uncle but anybody else and I probably would have kept or smashed it. The funny part was he didn't realize he had lost it so my family was having fun screwing with him until he realized it was gone about 30 minutes later
I'm ultra paranoid about my phone being in my pocket on any rides, so I generally stick it in a locker for the big ones. I don't even trust cargo pockets - however, if I somehow did have my phone and it accidentally left my pocket and hit you, and I saw you smash it - you'd have a much, much bigger problem on your hands.
Ditto on trusting cargo pants. I had Wicked Twister sneak my phone out of my cargo pocket 3 years ago. Thankfully it didn't break and a ride op ran down and got it right away when I shamefully pointed it out. Props to the guy standing at the exit gate who saw it go flying and let me know.
I've seen hats/cameras/phones all fly past me on rides everywhere. When I was recently at SFGadv riding Bizarro, when we hit the cobra roll over the ride entrance, someones phone went sailing and the whole train saw it and pointed at it as it went flying and blew into bits right in front of someone walking on the path below.
Magnum took my sister's CoasterMania! lanyard/Credentials right before nigh time ERT that night and it also got my friends Iphone a few years back, but he got it back in tact and in good condition the next morning. There was a orange all season drink cup laying in Mavericks infield on July 3rd, not sure how that got past the ride ops.
There is a reason that I prefer cargo pockets with zippers (witch hard to find these days). Ones with snaps or hook and loop are generally useless.
A tip I have if you are wearing cargo pants with buttons. What I do is I put my keys, wallet, and phone into plastic bag (like the ones you get at the checkout at Walmart). Then I tie the bag shut before putting it into my pocket. This makes it one large item too large to fall out of my pocket. If I find myself at a park without a bag, I ask for one at a gift shop. I prefer the retail store bags because they are easier to untie.
