Even better idea. Increase admission $3-$5 and make lockers free.
Still, they'd have to install a lot more lockers to meet demand. If they did, I'd be on board with this.

For me it's not that hard. Buy any souvenirs at the end of the day and take them out to your car. There is no need to hall around all that crap when it will still be there in a couple of hours.

...a hypothetical system.-You get a keycard on a lanyard at a station at one of the lockers. You pay a small deposit on the keycard.
-This keycard can be used to lock any given locker in the park, but only one at a time.
-You put your stuff in a locker, lock it with your keycard and ride Millennium Force
-Get off the ride, and open your locker
-Find an empty locker at Dragster, store your stuff, swipe your card to lock.Continue this throughout the day, using lockers where you need them.
While not a bad idea, keep in mind that making lockers free to use would dramatically increase demand. As such, the park would need to install a lot more of them. Not exactly a brilliant business strategy.
Sure, free, ubiquitous locker availability would presumably entice guests to spend more money on stuff, but does that presumed increase offset enough of the installation & maintenance cost to make it a sound business decision?
Who said anything about free? I probably should have been more specific about pricing but I was going on the idea that this would cost money to use. I just didn't know what price point to suggest, so I left that to imagination.

As far as lockers go, I still think Universal has the right idea. They allow riders free lockers while they ride, if you leave them in for longer then the allocated time then you have to pay.
I mean, free lockers would increase guest experience/service, increase capacity and efficiency (especially on rides like Magnum and Raptor) and probably decrease the number of items lost on rides.

Well seeing as that is never going to happen, the locker solution is the best solution. I wouldn't mind if tickets were raised in price $5 for the use of these lockers.

Am I the only one that goes to the park with only my car keys, credit card and some money stuffed in my pocket? I even hate to take my cell phone, I only do it if I'm meeting someone to try to stay in touch. I hate to think how much crap people take in the park to justify a $5 ticket increase for free lockers.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
But those of us with the sense NOT to carry around a boatload of stuff should not have our admission ticket raised to cover YOUR free lockers. Just sayin.

Aside from being factually incorrect (that is, there are plenty of solutions), this is not a remotely reasonable solution. There are countless reasons why people need to bring things into the park.

Well, in that case, how is this any different from what the park currently provides? They provide fee-based lockers all over the park already.

Is it remotely fair to assume that the majority of the park's guests are season pass-holding, marina dock-renting, forum-visiting enthusiasts who know precisely what they'll need on any given day?
Of course not. Just because many of us here can glance at the forecast and know exactly what we'll need for the entire day doesn't mean most do. We are the minority.

I'm with Pete. I have a 3-year-old and travel relatively crap-free. Is it fair to say people don't go other places for most of the day, like, say, a job? "Of course not." :) I think they can figure it out.

We take a 1 and 5 year old, and all the "crap" we have is for them. Of course we're using parent-swap, so the baby-jogger is the locker for us.
What I've never understood are the child-less couples and people that are walking around the park with enough gear to survive an expedition to the Outback. But hey, that's not my thing. :) To each his own...
Plus, Cedar Point has this super neat deal where they let you exit and re-enter the park, so the car is also the "locker" to a certain extent.
I know they generate the revenue, but if there was one thing I could physically remove from the park in terms of the crap people carry around, it's the mini basketballs. For whatever reason, whenever I hear them bouncing around me the grumpy old man (OK, grumpy 36 year old) in me wants to yank out a giant needle and just pop them all. Then the geniuses who buy them look amazed and angry when they are told they can't ride with them :)
Promoter of fog.
+1 for Pete. I don't even bring my keys in.(Keyless keypad). Just my(and my kids') pass, ID, credit card, and some cash---> in a cool velcro folding wallet. And my phone.
I never take more than a wallet, phone and my keys to Cedar Point (all fit comfortably in my pockets). If other people feel the need to pack for a 3 day trip thats fine. But I would not be in favor of subsidizing that with a ticket price increase. Lockers for rent works fine. You pay for them if you need them and do not if you don't.
Kevinj, it's not just your age group that is driven crazy by the bouncing basketballs, I'm 21 and I wan't to pop every single one of them too haha. I love watching them get them taken away in the stations.

If they were going to raise ticket prices $5 to add something of value for guests, forget lockers. Throw in free soft drinks like Holiday World. I always get amazed at what I see people carrying with them in line and all it does is slow down the loading of the rides. Just keys and credit card/cash is what I carry. I actually welcome the time away from the cell phone.

Said the local, season pass-holding guy who co-runs a CP enthusiast web site. :)
What works for you doesn't necessarily work for everyone. And you (and many others here) have had years and countless trips to hone down your "CP kit" to the barest of essentials.

I agree with you, but once a family realizes that they brought too much and have to pay for a locker, they probably won't bring as much the next time. That's why someones earlier point about raising tickets across the board for free lockers is a bad idea, in my opinion of course
