The mist is in the tunnel. When it's on, you can't see a thing other than the lights at the very end. One thing I noticed was the on-ride photos don't look so good with the mist. It almost looks like a ghosted image.

The mist was not on yesterday and I rode Maverick throughout the day. The only time I've ever seen it on was during the Red Cross rides and for a short bit after that. It really does add to the experience in the tunnel so I hope they get it fixed at some point (although I'm beginning to lose hope). And yeah, you can really feel the heat at the end of the tunnel!!

People may laugh, but the mist adds SO much to that tunnel section.
It really does add a lot to the ride. It's hard to explain until you ride in the front seat, with and without the mist. The launch is very different with it on.

When I was there on the 22nd of July the mist wasn't on for both of my rides. One was at 10am and the other at 9:15pm.

The mist is not "broken", it's simply turned off because of the problems it's been causing. While I'm pretty sure Cedar Point would not like me to disclose those problems, I'm just posting to say that the mist DOES work, it's just that Cedar Point needs to find a way to have it work and not cause problems.

A lot of parks have issues with mist and the guest tend to complain especially when it's in an enclosed space. SFGAm had to get rid of the mist in the tunnel of the line for Batman because people were complaining about it causing respiratory distress.
Like flying through 5 inversions in 49 seconds is good for the lungs.
