To me the "Remember how we followed up Magnum" comment tells us that it's a woodie BECAUSE it's been 4 coasters and will be 11 years since the last woodie.
I think if they build a woodie it will be big and break records. I mean look at all the other rides built (excluding Woodstock's Express) they all break the tallest fastest of their kind record. Just a point.
If cp were to put in a woodie I would say that the villian at sfo is a perfect example. It does not take up too much room. Is in a skinny area like the waterfront and is one hell of a ride. The worst thing they could do is put in anything that goes upside down that makes you sick except a floorless like Batman Knight Flight also at sfo.
Here's some factors they need to look at that would fit in on the water front.
1. Something that would be traditional.
2. Something that is high for the view.
3. Something that would make a whole new atmosphere that no other parks have. All the parks have some kinda of old 13 colonies theme that gets boring to look at.
When I read "How did we follow up Magnum?" you automatically think "MS" right away without too much thought. Its a long shot, but to think of all the rides that have followed Magnum and how they would relate to their plans wouldn't make snese. It seems CP builds a record breaking steel coaster and follows it up with a woodie. My $.02

Feel the Force NOW!!
Matt, Following Magnum was Mean Streak, which happened to be a Record breaking coaster, but so was every other major coaster they built in the last 11 years. Remember Raptor, Mantis, Millennium Force, and not to mention Mean Streak. The only difference is that Mean Streak is the only woodie out of all of those, meaning that there is significance behind saying what they followed MAGNUM with, not any other coaster from the 90s. However, it very well could be the revamping of a new ride as well.
I think they are going to relocate Mean Streak to the Lakefront by disaster transport in order to make room for the tallest and fastest log flume ride in the world. :)
The reason against a record breaking woodie:
No wooden coaster taller than 150ft has ever been a success.
Examples: Hercules, Mean Streak, Rattler, and more or less, SoB.
The high water mark for woodies has been between 90-130' for the most part.
Why an out and back? Why not? We've already got a twister.
id like to see a out and back type coaster like shivering timbers, but longer.
About the boardwalk project...
build a wooden coaster, add a few nostalgic rides like the WHIP! and make the place look nostalgic kinda like "Lost Kennywood" but better. They could put a iron sign like the one that greeted guests at the boat pier in the '20's and call it "Cedar Point Memories"
--now that would be my dream!
Did you forget that 70ft tall blue thing behind Raptor Bill? We have an out-and-back and a twister. During my two day trip to Cedar Point I saw how much space Peanut's Playground takes up. If I remember right Jeff said that that would be a great place for a twister. When I walked by the place around 2:00 there was not a kid in the place! The kids would rather be at Kiddy Kingdom or Camp Snoopy. This would be where the woodie would go.

Remember, line jumping is NOT a sporting event!
That was exactly what I was thinking too! When I went last Friday, I actually thought the playground was closed, but then I saw three kids playing. That would be the perfect place for the station and maybe part of a super helix! :)
I agree 100%. I was at CP on Monday, and there was maybe, just maybe five people in there when I walked by. No one, not even families goes to a major amusement park for a playground. I really look for this site to be home to a major coaster in 2001 or 2002. I took a good look at it and there is a lot of space there.
That was my point. People are complaining about building *another* twister. We have an out and back, too! What's left: a double/triple out and back -- a design that's never really impressed me -- and a terrain freeform. Unfortunately, CP is utterly devoid of terrain, which leaves a multi out and back.
I would appreciate a hybrid, actually.
A 150 foot wooden out and back is perfect! Don't paint the wood though, even though if looks great on Blue Streak, just stain it or something.

GO SHAMROCKS!
GO WOLVERINES!
BOOMERANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why would you want a Boomerang??? A world-class park like CP should never have to stoop that low. There is NO reason for CP to get a Boomerang, besides, cookie cutters are not CP's thing! THANK GOD!
I'd like to see a woodie, about 155 feet tall, that doesn't break height or speed records (obviously), but takes away the coveted longest wooden coaster title from PKI. 155 feet tall, 8000 feet long. :) We could do 2 lift hills on it too...have 5 train operation. Of course, there would be loads of airtime, laterals, and other stuff...and NO LOOPS. (don't start a wooden loop trend).
Jman
You know, on SoB, the loop is the smoothest part of the ride. It was the 200+ ft that's destroying it.
I'm leery of anything 150ft, too.
I agree... If Cedar Point is to get a woodie I hope it is in the 90-115 foot range.
I wish CP could break the "longest" coaster record. I believe that's the only one they haven't broken!
