The Future of CP-Let's be realistic

As stated in the news by Jeff:

****A high-ranking official says next year's capital improvement will change the look of the park, but
wouldn't say if it included a new ride. As reported by The Guide nearly a year and a half ago, this
development might be the waterfront development.

It's almost a certainty that the Aquatic Stadium and former aquarium will be removed. Last year's
rumored moves for Schwabinchen and Ocean Motion certainly support the redevelopment of this area.
One slightly more "out there" rumor also has the park removing Coral Courtyard and the old convention
center building.

Finally, notice the pretty iron fence that extends from Disaster Transport behind the aquarium and
stadium (where right now no one will see it), and draw your own conclusions.

So what about 2002? The official would only say, "Remember how we followed up Magnum?"****

From what this is saying, the near future of a floorless looks dim.

We all pretty much know that the Boardwalk is a future reality, but this part makes me wonder about a woodie.

What did follow Magnum?-Mean Streak

My guess is that they was going to have an out and back woodie of 250+ feet.

What do you think?
God, I hope not - I think wood coasters are best kept under the 150' mark. Apart from the rare exception, I have found this to be the rule.
I really hope that we don't see a woodie any taller than Mean Squeek. I would love a Shivering Timbers-like coaster. Mad airtime and possibly a helix at the half-way point and end would be awesome.

Millennium Force: As fast as a male horsefly!
I would love to see a new wooden coaster as part of this boardwalk project...something like Lightning Racer or Wildcat at Hersheypark...but keep it around 100ft. I would also like to see some new flat rides. Other than Chaos, CP has not had any new ones in awhile. I would like to see a large version of the Mirage (that was at GL).

Speaking of the iron fence, I noticed that too behind the Giant Wheel. I know next year's project will be something along the lakefront...can't wait to hear. *** This post was edited by net on 6/20/2000. ***
100 ft. are you crazy! I hope it's at least 150-175 ft.
That Fence has always been there. They just gave it a pretty new coat of paint this season.

The chain link fence on the beach, however, is new (last season).

CP_genius, IMHO, the heigth of a wooden coaster is not the true fun factor. It's what's done with the track that really matters. Bigger is not always better especially when you are talking about a woodie. net's suggestion of both Lightning Racer and Wildcat at Hershey are two very good examples. Also from everyone I've spoken to, Boulder Dash at Lake Compounce (sorry if that's spelled wrong) is a great ride also.
Don't knock 'em till ya try 'em. :-) You might end up really diggin' a smaller better designed woodie.

I wouldn't think so either...

but if Millennium Force has showed us anything it's that size really does matter. ;)

(or at least on a coaster)

After Magnum, in 90' they revamped Disaster Transport, so are we looking at the revamping of an exsisting ride?

That wasn't a BIG investment like they have every other year.

Hurricane's got it right. In 1990 they rethemed Avalanche Run to Disaster Transport. Maybe they'll retheme Disaster Transport back to Avalanche Run, or maybe even into a real Space Odyssey for 2001 (it's bad, but someone had to do it) :)

Viper at SFGAm is a small, tight-turning woody with TONS of airtime and an-out-of-control feel to it. it is small enough that it would fit in the footprint mentioned earlier...woodies are best in this form, i think. out and back is nice, but a twister is SO much more intense!!

ride early, ride often!!!
Why would CP build an Out-and-Back Woodie when Blue Streak is a short walk away? I think they will try to make the new coaster do something that Mean Streak didn't/doesn't do. For Instance, have lots of airtime, be smooth, and be a REAL twister.
I think we are gonna get a coaster somewhere along the lines of Rampage, or Wildcat. Blue Streak is all the Out-and-Back coaster we need (after Magnum of course)for now.
what about a thrust air 2k?maybe he ment that what followed magnum in height was mf-a th2k can go much taller than mf.and there is plenty of room for this on the rumerd bordwalk project.
I don't think he was saying anything about height-- He was just saying that 2 years after Magnum was built they built another expensive coaster...

And another note- If a new wooden coaster is built, I REALLY hope that the lift is no higher than maybe 120 feet. Woodies should be made for airtime, not speed. That is what steel coasters are for.

Height= good for steelies, bad for woodies.
jjfang and RPerz...very well put. I'm glad there are people out there that realize you do not need height to have a great wooden coaster. Lightning Racer and Wildcat at HersheyPark are half the size of Mean Streak, but they are twice the fun. They have much more airtime and are pretty smooth. I'm not smashing Mean Streak, but my favorite wooden coasters are all small in height. Heck, I still think The Big Dipper at SFO is fantastic.
They need a replica of the Big Dipper at Belmont Park in San Diego, CA. That's my #1 wooden coaster. The drop is amazingly twisted, and the ride never lets up. It's only 73 feet high, but it's the most intense 73 feet I've ever been on.

Look at this picture:
http://www.joyrides.com/belmont/full/giant_dipper2.htm
If that doesn't convince you, then I don't know what will.
Whew, those are some intense looking curves on The Dipper. I think CP will go with a woodie because:
1) They've added 4 steel coasters (if you count Woodstock Express) since the addtion of MS, that's alot for any park
2) A woodie would fit perfectly with the throwback style of the boardwalk project. No, not another montser woodie or one that would smach SOB's records, just something like Big Dipper or something 50 feet higher

Why does it necessarily have to be a wooden coaster? I think that by the comment:
"Remember how we followed up Magnum" doesn't mean that they are going to build a wooden coaster. It just means that two years after the Magnum was built, they built, another world record breaking coaster. So who knows it might be a woody, or a flooress, or a thrust air, or a LIM. It might not even be a coaster it could be a different type of ride. It might not even be a ride. Just wait and find out what they are going to do. Then talk about the pros, and cons about it.
