THE ESSENCE OF CP?

As the winter passes by the heart grows fonder... I'm a big fan of atmosphere. Not to get too poetic, but does anyone have any specific "abstract" Cedar Point memories that will bring you back (as an employee, passholder or guest) next year? I'm not talking about war stories at Louies. pranks in Commons or drunken parties, but more like one specific place and time in the park where you always loved your job the most.

Here are mine:
I always love walking past the gristmill on the frontier trail at night on late summer nights after many of the younger kids have gone home. Just the wooded setting, the lack of massive, noisy rides, the train whistle and smell of the tracks and the quaint dimly lit cabins. Even as a former employee and lifelong resident for whom most of the "magic" of CP disappeared long ago, this is the one part of Cedar Point I wish I could bottle and open in January.

A close second would have to be the boardwalk at night, between the hotels, with the lights of Huron in the distance.

Anyone else?

I have one...

On certain nights the employees would have ride nights on the coasters. I remember riding Magnum at night. After the 2nd drop into the tunnel, you were engulfed in pitch black. (This being before the mega expansion of soak-city.) I fondly remember the smell of the campfires as you roared across the tracks in the pretzel, wondering if you were going to fly off the tracks and into Lake Erie.

Is that like the essence of emeril? Can we bottle it and sell it?

Well, the Essence was already used at KI when Son of Beast kicked up a notch and went BAM!!!

Mine would definitely have to be the feeling I got when I was driving the Turnpike cars round the track after the park closed to gas them up. After a long busy hot day, dealing with troublesome guests it was SO relaxing to drive those things around while Hot Summer Lights was playing in the background. I always was the most content at that time...not thinking about anything else except for that moment that I was in right then.

*sigh*

I want to be back at Turnpikes right NOW!!!

I'll have to agree with the first comment about being in the back of the park. I cant get enough frontier town. Something bout it never ceases to draw me back there as soon as I got off work, or woke up and left cedars to go play when I was off. Maybe it was the Skyhawk crew who I was close to, maybe it was the setting of the area alone. All aspects of Zone 4 I love.

But amongst all that, there was nothing more amazing than walking down the neselted path between antiques and Maverick's construction during sunset with the bright sunlight peering through White Water Landing's queue building, the sound of compressed air blowing off in the distance, the roar of Mean Streak, the sound of the train with the smell of those tracks. And to top if off, the construction and thought of the engineering that was being poured into the unknown project around you.

Amazing to me...

...Its why I want to be in the back of the park next season.

I love that movie.

And looking at Wikipedia, they are making a sequel due out next year. It will be using CG backgrounds, but muppet characters, albeit updated with modern technology muppets.

Wha wha wha?????? That's crazy talk! How could it be that this is the first I'm hearing about this? Shouldn't this have been on 60 Minutes, Dateline or something?

Good news, regardless. :)

Well, I found the link to it by browsing the Dark Crystal entry. I'm sure IMDB also has an entry for it. And there is probably a webpage about it out there somewhere.

Yeah, I was just reading some of that stuff. I never knew that (supposedly) Radiohead's Kid A synced with that movie.

Brandon

^ That would be bizarre indeed. Bizarre and beautiful, or bizarre and crazy, but most definitely bizarre.

Oh my gosh, I forgot that movie till I saw that face. Man that was a long time ago.

Anyway TurnPike, I get choked up when I pass the Red Baron in Camp Snoopy because that was the ride that my oldest waited to be tall enough to finally ride & he loved. Then came the year they told him he was too tall to ride & we both were so sad knowing a transition had arrived. And as I said once before in another thread I go to the Breakers just to go on the beach in the AM before any of the other guests are out there. It is the coolest thing to me to listen to the lake & the sounds of the rides "waking up" without anyone on them yet.
