Survey at CCMR?

No. It's the original entrance that has been boarded up. :) I think if you walk through the line and look in that direction you can parts of the original path.

He has this right. If you walk through the queue, and at the point where you turn left to go up the ramp towards the station, you can look around the corner and see in side there. Apparently after the tornado they threw in some boulders and boarded it up. You can still see parts of the foot path in there though. For what the beleivable worth is, it is more evident standing inside there. I had to clean out some trash that got trapped in there during a cleaning week when I last worked for the park.

It's still in perfect shape and usable, I don't see why they can't use it again. My idea about what could happen is far fetched but possible.

OK, somebody please fill me in on the original CCMR entrance. I've been going to the park since 1979, and I always remember it being where it is now. Is the gemini/tornado comment a "magnum sinking" kind of joke, or was there really a tornado that did damage to the park?

There really was a tornado that tore through the back of the park. Some damage(I am not sure what or the extent) was done to CCMR and a I think the lift back there too. Yeah it is true, more here can tell you and I about the damage maybe.

Leslie,

I just cant see the point in putting in a coaster that is just average by today's standards. I can't help but think there will be something noteworthy about this ride that we can't see yet.

I agree with you 100%. It'll have some type of unique element to it.

Little Leslie, last time i checked it was the Kingda Ka. ;)

LOL!!!!!!! I thought to myself "What the hell is he talking about?!?!" I had to look back & laugh at myself for that one!

Well, it's not at Cedar Point, so I don't have to spell it right! LOL

There really was a tornado that did damage to the park...a more recent storm cleared out the area that this entire forum is about...

although...if history is right, there was a mine there at one point in time...and CP just closed off the entrance...kind of hurriedly, I might add, seeing as how the boards are all criss-cross and stuff...

I would love to see the original Mine Ride setup. Seperate entrance and exit areas, 6 trains, meaning at least 7 blocks (you can tell where the blocks were if you look at the track), and the original entrance opened up. Really, I want to see everything but the 6 train operation (as that would be pointless), as I love CP history and would love to see CCMR restored.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Wow, now I am really confused. I remember CCMR having a different entrance, but not in the old shaft discussed here. I thought it was on the other side of the helix, but different from where it is now. I also remember CCMR and BS having seperate unloading areas, and hand brakes on BS. I wish my memory was better, because now I have no idea who is right.

I have old photos (slides) from the 70s, I'm sure I have a picture. I will need to go through them to see.

Heck, Mike, I'd love to see them be able to run 2 trains without stacking! That would be a step in the right direction.

Although I'm suprised this thread got this long, I'm glad it's here, because I never knew about the original entrance to CCMR. I always thought that the closed off shaft was purley theming. Silly me, I should have known better.

I didn't know anything about the original entrance either. But maybe that's because the tornado hit when I was a friggin toddler!!

I remember when the tornado hit.I have got some old super8mm film around here somewhere, just so happens that was the first time we stayed at the breakers.I still can't recall the entrance to CCMR,but I was only about ten at the time,I do remember the park was open the next day though.

at thepointol.com, in the history section they have old postcards. on page 4 of postcards is an old picture of the mine ride. this picture may or may not shed light on this entrance issue. it is worth a look to see the yellow color on the mine ride train.

^^^ Good Find. WHile that post card shows the current entrance, you can tell there is a lot of newer timber on the helix that matches the entrance. I'd say the picture on this post card was taken shortly after opening the season after the Tornado. If not that then shortly after the tornado, though I don't think the park would have made drastic cosmetic changes to the area in the days and weeks following the incident.

The point is the different shades of the entrance wood, and ride timber is evidence of cosmetic changes occuring some time after the Original opening of the ride. *** Edited 8/22/2006 8:42:26 PM UTC by MonsterMan***
