I would actually be happy with just that two cents off the current soft drink prices. Seriously, vending machines that accept ATM cards? While reducing the price to free might be a profit loss - the margin between the current price structure (and free) certainly could be reduced and still be profitable.
CF is big enough and old enough to develop some sort of ride technology on their own by now. If Knoebels can do it in house, Paramount did it themselves (on the Beast) at Kings Island, and with Matt at the helm (all that Disney creativity) they certainly have the ability, talent, and $.
Some people are just never, ever, happy and live to complain.
I wouldn't be surprised if CP didn't give the RMC treatment to Mean Streak. Someday. They just spent a little trying to improve the ride experience as it is, so another investment could be a while coming, for now there's bigger fish to fry. If they do it'll happen when the timing is right. And when they do, wait for the barrage of complaints about ruining Mean Streak (that some will consider a classic), or making the ride too thrilling when the whole family could ride before, or wasting money 'improving' an existing attraction when what they really should do is build that 500 ft tall wooden looper. Not to mention the fact that it will put one of CP's coaster out of commission for a whole season- listen to the crying then.
I bet the people of Mexico City have waited longer than any of us for a big new attraction at their park that's worthy of real buzz.
DarKastle? Seriously? That ride doesn't exactly suck, but kinda. It's well enough suited for a seasonal theme park of that kind I'd say. Pirate Ride is way too old fashioned and not nearly cutting edge enough for today's audience. Well, at least as it was. If CP ever has a dark ride, once again it's gonna be a waiting game, and you can bet all eyes will be on Canada's Wonderland this season. It's a new concept, a new ride system, and if successful technically and with customers, look for other parks in the Cedar Fair chain to hook that up. Maybe Cedar Point will be one. The problem I see with that, and God help me for entering into the space argument here, but show buildings for rides like that are huge. We don't have a hollow mountain, or invisible space behind the scenes for a ride like that. There's the age old rumor of the Coliseum building for the project, but as a preservationist, that would make me sad. I'd rather see no dark ride at all than to ruin that historic building for a ride of any kind.
You won't find me standing on one leg waiting for free soda pop at Cedar Point to come. Yes, we all know Holiday World does it and it's great. But that's a different place.
Lastly, for Chrissake, the park gave us a multi million dollar steel looper just last season. This year concentration is on family attractions and a re-do of a long neglected area. Good for them. It's not the most money they've ever spent, and they aren't the most thrilling rides we've ever seen, but so what? Everyone's old high capacity favorites will still be there for us to enjoy. Wait in line for Flying Scooters if you want, or don't. Nobody cares. Someone will be enjoying the hell out of those rides with or without you. It's a matter of balance from season to season, and why anyone fails to see that is beyond me.
Let's all try really hard to be happy and grateful that we have, arguably, the greatest amusement park ever to enjoy right here in Ohio. Talk to the enthusiasts in cities like St. Louis, Denver, or Minneapolis and see what they say. I'd take all there is to do at Cedar Point over anything half the Six Flags parks offer, any day.
I'd venture to guess that most here that complain incessantly about how bad Cedar Point treats their fans hasn't spent a summer anywhere else.
It's my understanding that Holiday World determined what their average guest expenditure was on soft drinks and raised the gate price by a slightly larger amount.
Basically, everyone who goes to the park is paying for the "free" soda pop; Holiday World didn't take a hit, they ended up making more money.
I think I'll pass on the 240 foot sling shot. But maybe it will appease the extreme adrenalin seekers.
I'm going to have to agree with SteveH that the food at CP is high priced and some of it not that great tasting. Isn't even Subway's $5 footlongs $10 at CP? How about a couple bucks higher but not double! It's hard when you have a family to feed. That's why we try to pack a cooler when we go, especially when you go often. I'd love to eat in the park more but it's hard to justify let alone the affordability.
I've said this many times, they should try to revamp Shoot the Rapids, make it family friendly with a lowered height, enclose the ride in parts, make it a scenic Old Mill ride. There's your dark ride without taking up more space. Weren't they supposed to put a mountain underneath it for the train to pass through?

I will try whatever sling shot they put in, however all of the similar rides I have ridden are disappointing...but then again I do go skydiving 20 or so times every year, and whitewater kayak at least three times a year in the spring.
They should build a mountain around the structure for Snake River Falls. The train can tunnel through the mountain and the boat can slide down the mountain.
That was it! The mountain was Snake River Falls, somebody here had posted a concept picture.

Cedar Point as an ACE up their sleeves! Tony just tweeted, "Some more great CP news is being launched this morning. #StayTuned" I think LAUNCHED being the key word here! Sling Shot baby!!
CF has at times had a way of making something out of nothing..
I'll watch, wait and see
Corkscrew, Power Tower, Magnum, & Monster/ Witches Wheel Crew 2011
Cedar Point is getting a Sling Shot ride for the 2014 season. This will be an extra charge attraction and located near Gemini. Also, Starbucks will replace Donut Time and Chickie's and Petes will replace Game Day Grille. A Coke Freestyle Cafe and a Yogurt Plus will replace the arcade games in the Gemini midway.
The slingshot ride will shoot riders 360 feet in the air.

So I guess our questions are answered.
“With a collection of 72 rides, including 17 roller coasters, three kids’ areas, live shows, unique and interesting places to eat and spend the night, Cedar Point offers something fun for everyone.”
I agree that PIPESCREAM should be counted as a coaster.
So this thing goes 360 feet, impressive. KI's slingshot goes only to 265 as a max, this should be impressive

Too bad the SlingShot ride will cost..
Hey, maybe Platinum Pass holders will get free rides. Or 2 for the price of one like Skyscraper last year?

Since you posted the same thing twice, I'll copypasta my response here. :)
Just because the park calls it a coaster doesn't mean it's true. It's simply their opinion.
After all, they also call themselves "The Best Amusement Park in the World", which is obviously also purely subjective.
Brandon
It looks like CP is definitely classifying "Pipe Scream" as a coaster.

The press release said manufactured by Funtime in Austria, it should be Austrailia. I used to send mail to Austria and the Post Office clerk always wanted to send it to Australia. That was just maddening, had to correct his mistake all the time when I purchased postage.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
