Summer Job 2013

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone would have any advice for me if I want to get a summer job at Cedar Point next summer. I currently live in South Carolina, so I know I would have to get their housing. Just anything that could help me get a job here next summer. Thanks.

Not sure what kind of advice you are looking for. After the first of the year when the application process starts, put in an app and go from there. If you want to be in rides I would make sure to get the app in as early as possible.

GO IRISH!!

Alright thanks. I do intend to apply for 2013 once they open. So they start taking in applications around January or so? The advice I was looking for is if there is really anything different for my process since I would live in their housing.

Generally applications go up end of December, beginning of January. Just keep a look out for the applications to go live. As for needing housing, when you have your interview, chances are your manager will just automatically assign you to housing since you're from South Carolina.

Apply as soon as possible as already said. This is my first year and I love it. I'm

Alright guys, thanks! I hope I get an interview and it will go well. I assume I would be over the phone or Skype. Looking forward to December/January!

I do have one more question. I know from Cedar Point's website they have you work 6 days a week. How much does that translate into the amount of hours per week. Also what is the average starting wage at Cedar Point?

Back when I worked there in '89/'90 we worked 60 plus hours a week. I have no idea what it's like now.

It really depends on what area you work in and how staffing is. I've worked an early entry ride for the last two years, and I average about 65 hours per week.

You shouldn't have any problem, I got a job by interviewing over the telephone and I did that from Brazil as I am an American that lives in Brazil. If you are open to any job they have, it makes it easier to get a job. I got into laundry, I didn't know if I would like it or not, but I found I really enjoy it. Good supervisors and staff. Plenty of overtime if you want it.

They give you a room and once you learn the lay of the land, if you would rather live elsewhere, you can also get an apartment in town and split that with others. So there are various options.

I go to school at usc upstate and I got a phone interview and live in housing due to being 25+ miles away from Cedar Point. the min wage depends if it goes up or not but in ohio it's $7.70 and then also the hours it depends on the department you are working for I am in quick service foods and I average about 70 hour a week.

Oh nice you go to Upstate? I go to school at USC. Go Cocks!!(Not sure if you are actually a Gamecock fan) But thanks guys for the information. Like most people I am hoping for a job like a ride op, and hopefully since I plan on applying as early as possible, I have a better chance at getting that. Of course I know won't always be offered a job like that, so we will see what I can get.

Does Cedar Point pay overtime to their employees? I figure they do not since in Ohio it is not a state law.

It is a state law that companies pay overtime. However, amusement parks fall under the "agriculture" segment in Ohio, which means they do not have to pay overtime wages.

I plan to apply in 2013 and I have some few questions to ask:

1. Do they hire you based on how well you do in the interview, or if there's an open spot for that job preference you choose?

2. How many people are they actually hiring?

3. Is there some job preferences that requires some experience for your past jobs (like retails, customer service, ect...)

4. Is applying early give me a higher chance of getting a job?

5. can you get on the rides for free if you not working?

Last year I applied and I didn't get the job because I put my start date in July so that I can take summer classes in May/June, but that didn't happen and I realize I need a summer job. So hopefully this time My start date would be in first week of May because college ends in last week of April and will start back after Labor Day for fall classes I assume.

1. Probably a little of both. I do know people who haven't gotten hired for the park, or had to submit for a second and even a third interview for different divisions of the parks.

2. Not sure. A pretty good number of people though. Everyone you see walking around the parks with a red or blue tag? Seasonal.

3. Nope! I know quite a few people where Cedar Point was their first job ever.

4. Of course. Applying earlier means less positions are taken. In all three years of working at the point, I've applied in early January each time.

5. You can actually get into any Cedar Fair owned park for free when you're not working.

Where do you go to school? What are you looking to apply for? Also, feel free to ask if you have any other questions.
