Anyone know why they took it down?
First time to Cedar Point was opening day 2009, 7 hours in line for TTD, 2 rollbacks =)

"In other news, that pesky Shoot the Rapids webcam is down. Painters are doing work on Snake River Falls, so it's been taken offline. We'll eventually relocate the camera to the STR on-ride photo building so you can see riders get wet down the final drop. Don't worry - we'll bring you any important photos or video during the ride's testing phase."
Ah okay. How does painting another ride force them to take that offline? Not a big deal just curious.

I am sure it had something to do with them testing str as well. They don't want you to see if something goes wrong durring the testing process.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Does anyone recall if they turned the webcam off during the pull-through on Maverick?
Jason
Why do they call it common sense, when it's so infrequently used?
Which one? Cus I dont think you can even see maverick on any of the webcams?..Unless they had a Maverick construction webcam..not sure tho

He was referring to back in 2007. He was wondering if they removed the webcam back in 2007 while Maverick was being tested. As far as I know, I don't think they did, but I could be wrong.
If you read this old thread from 2007 , it would seem that webcams went down from time to time during when they were testing Maverick. (In case you forgot, they had to replace a section of track with a plan B after initial tests of forces on Maverick.).
CP covered the "down time" on the Maverick construction cam (which was also attached to SRF ride structure on a different side at the time) with the need to relocate the webcams and do upgrades to the webcams.
Now we have the timing on needing to paint SRF and "relocate" the camera again for STR. And of course this is prime in the middle of testing STR. The STR cam being down does not surprise me at all. It ain't rocket science folks.
Patience is a virtue. (I'm sure Tony and the people at CP will have the webcam back up, in it's new location, in time for opening day and when they want us to see all of what is going on again.)
I believe that with the last 3 or 4 rides that have been built since the webcam's have been used, the cam's go off or are moved just as testing is about to start. They usually have it back up and running for a little ride testing before the park opens. I too was waiting with anticipation to see the first boat over the lift and onto the island.

I wish they would just come out and say" Hey...we are testing, so the camera is gonna be off".

Why is it so hard to accept the fact that they took it down due to the painting that's going on with Snake River Falls??

^^^^ What he said. That's why.
I am not crying about it, just making a point.

Actually, Kings Dominion told KDfansite.com that they were going to turn the webcams off during the first couple days of testing (I305). They told Clint that so when he saw the webcams go out he could go to the park and get his video. Not saying CP does the same thing, but it has happened a lot around testing time.
Let's Get Weird.
It's still a silly thing to not want to accept a simple explanation from an official.
enthusiast- "So why is the STR cam gone?"
Tony- "Painters are doing work on Snake River Falls, so it's been taken offline. We'll eventually relocate the camera to the STR on-ride photo building so you can see riders get wet down the final drop. Don't worry - we'll bring you any important photos or video during the ride's testing phase." **actual quote**
