I would say no because if your soft hat were to somehow come out of your shirt, it wouldn't hurt anyone. If you were to lose your drink cup on the ride, that can cause some damage. Not only that, the drink cup would probably get damaged during the ride, where a soft hat wouldn't get ruined.

When I rode Fury 325 earlier this year, this guy in my row had a souvenir cup with him. He shouldn't have been allowed into the queue with it, but nevertheless, he was in my row. A ride operator told him that everything he brought into the station must go with him on the ride. So he has this cup, which is not empty. He tried to stuff it to the left of him in the seat, between him and his daughter. We're going up the hill (on an angle of course), we crest the hill and start going down. I look to my right at him because I was afraid it was going to splash on me. As we were going down, there were ice cubes floating in front of him. Then throughout the ride I could feel a light splash. At the end of the ride, the people behind him were not pleased, although they thought someone was drooling or spitting.
Ended up purchasing 6 Flags Gold food pass good at all of their parks which includes 2 meals, a snack and a souvenir cup for unlimited soft drinks for the entire season for $80.
Went to 6 Flags Great America first and was disappointed to find out that I would have to carry around one of those stupid cups all year UNTIL I got into one of the roller coaster stations and under their security cameras, Great America has installed a super expensive piece of plywood with holes cut out to put the souvenir cups in.
I am not sure if Cedar Point and other Cedar Fair parks haven't done it because they haven't thought of it (doubtful), or haven't because it's a huge money making scam to force us to rent lockers. (Except for coasters with separate load and unload stations)
I won't even consider buying one of these cups until I can store it for free on most rides.
^^^ SFGAm isn't known as a shining example for hitting interval.
Personally, I hate the concept of the reusable drink bottle. They're hard to wash properly, sugar water sits in them all day long, users put their mouth on them, and they often contact the nozzles on non-Freestyle soda fountains when refilling.
New paper cups are much more sanitary.
^ That, and Freestyle machines lack the long rubber hoses of traditional fountains. The technology was originally developed for the pharmaceutical industry.
Yes, I still drink water from both types of soda fountains, notwithstanding bacteria & souvenir bottles. That doesn't mean I have to like the concept of time-consuming-to-fill and likely-less-than-sanitary drink bottles.
They'll always be there, the park makes a killing off of them I'd imagine. 30 something for drinks all season? They have to kill it there considering the cost per cup/oz for a soft drink.
They'll be here for the long haul, like sweaty restraints, handrails everyone has touched, and so much more.

It just seems like most everyone on here don't like them. With that said, it makes me believe that someday they'll be getting rid of them. Here's one weird reason I like them. I will use the bottle all season and then when the season ends, I take the label off the cup and throw it in recycle bin. The Rougarou one, I changed the graphics on it a little and made it more my style since that's what I am going to school for anyway.
