I have been hearing a rumor on Youtube that Space Spiral will open for the last time this weekend to give a couple more rides and then close forever. Just wondering if that rumor was true?
I love Cedar Point
I have also noticed that they have lowered the cabin to where people can borad it.http://www.cedarpoint.com/online-fun/webcams

They move it up and down a lot to do work on it. It should be back to the regular position later.
Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!
As much as I would like Space Spiral to open for the weekend, I'm not going to hold my breath. But it would be a nice gesture for Passholder Appreciation Weekend.

If you look from the beach you can see that the pavement has been torn up to the ramp. That makes a revival look veeeeery unlikely.

All of the concrete around Space Spiral is still intact. There are markings painted all around it. Most of Disaster Transport's foundation is gone and is just sand. It does look like all of the communications equipment at the top has been removed.

Found it interesting that the current view of the web cam there are NO aviation lights working on the tower tonight (Tuesday night.) I know they were still working last Friday (the 7th.)
Makes me think it'll be coming down sooner rather than later this week.
The guys that put together the time lapse could verify but I think they were on last night even. Which would mean it's coming down Wednesday
Given that the cabin is parked at the top of the tower tonight (and has been all day), and there's no aviation lights, which is a good sign power to it has been cut, I'd say there's some good merit to the rumors of it coming down tomorrow. (or today depending on your timezone)
Considering the picture has not changed since 11:58pm on Sept 11 would be why the light is not on. For something that height you would have to have the light on during the night. They would have to cut the power and drop it during the day or at least make it shorter than Windseeker to comply with FAA rules i guess.

From the webcam, it looks like it was between 7:28 and 7:30. That is providing the camera time is right.
are there any details about HOW they did it? I would be interested in knowing how they brought it down so fast.
I would say it went just like most of us said it would, controlled explosives. I captured the image just before and after it was gone. You can even see the dust cloud.
