Snowalloweekends??!

Don't know if anyone has seen the weather reports for this out coming weekend, but a cold front is moving through. I live in Toledo and they said on the weather report some areas north of town could receive some accumulation! lol Usually when I dress, its about 10 degrees colder by the lake with the wind factored in and everything.

Went this past weekend and it was beautiful, people were actually outside swimming at the Hotel Breakers and at the beach. What a change for next weekend.

Two years ago, it was pretty frigid one weekend, wind was blowing and all. Probably was cold enough to snow, but there was no precipitation.

So, anyone up for some possible rides in the Snow? You know...over the bunny hill and through the tunnel to Grandmothers house we go...

Well, here in West Michigan there are some models predicting 10 inches. Not sure how close we'll get to that, but we're expecting some amount of snow.

Now, I'm a hockey fan, and I love winter, but dangit, I like the fall and this is too soon.

This is a great example of why, when people say the park should open earlier or close later, I am completely against it.

I recall a year when I worked at Geauga Lake that we had snowfall on an opening weekend. The season is long enough. It doesn't need to be any longer.

Temps further east (Sandusky area) are supposed to be in the low 50s this weekend.

Give it a few more weeks before we start expecting a blizzard at the point.

Interesting...

AccuWeather.com is giving me a predicted "RealFeel" of 98 degrees this weekend. High of 88 and low of 73. :)

Oh wait, you're talking Sandusky. ha ha!

I don't think we'll have to worry about any snow in Sandusky this weekend. Remember, meteorologists - even good ones - love to predict the first frozen precipitation of the season too early. There's something about the first snow that makes even smart people jump the gun. Besides, the chance of precipitation this weekend looks less than 30% at this point.

That said, we're starting to get into the time of year for snow pellets (sometimes called graupel or soft hail). It's often confused with sleet or other forms of frozen precipitation, but these are small balls of ice that form around snowflakes. It's not unusual to see a burst of graupel when it doesn't seem like it would be cold enough for frozen precipitation.

This brings back a cold, cold, memory of the point...

My brother and I went down to CP late in the season despite weather predictions of rain showers all day... well, it showered but it wasn't rain. Most of the rides were running in the light snow all day - it was a lot of fun. That is, until we ran into some moderate-sized hail as we approached the top of MF's first hill. It hurt BEFORE we were going 90+MPH. MF is always a lot of of fun, but honestly, Ken and I were in a lot of pain. You can't hide when you in the front seat, lol - I ended up with my head inside my big, puffy coat by the end of the ride but got a couple big bruises before I could get there.

It was crazy.

I believe the proper term is "Snowloweekends" :)

Skiing, tubing, tobogganing, etc., you are flying down a hill at a high rate of speed for thrills and enjoyment and it is cold. The only difference between this and amusement park fun is the public's perception of what is fun and at what temperature. Amusement park = summer. Skiing = winter. Skiing is way more expensive so bring on the snow and keep the coasters riding I say! I can stay dry and not have to drag that frickin' sled back up that hill again! :) Over and over... Please ENJOY, even if it snows!

And make people rush to the grocery store and take all the milk, water, and bread off the shelves quick, fast, and in a hurry. I always laugh at the rush to grab as many simple food items as people can when even a foot of snow is predicted. Or maybe the people where I'm from are just paranoid...or crazy. Or both.

They said here by Detroit Michigan that either Thursday, or Friday we could see a rain/snow mix. A high of 38 degrees either Friday or Thursday. I don't mind I love snow.

I wonder what Cedar Point would do if it did snow 10 incehs while the park was still open for the season. Will the rides be open? Will the park stay open? It will be intresting to see what they would do I think.

It makes people not come into the store where I work at (an Office supply store) not come in, to make my job a whole lot easier. That is why I love when snow watches or warnings go out and people get paranoid to drive even if it is not snowing and stay home.

A Michigan State Spartan Fan!!!

Yeah. I feel sorry for the grocery stores though. They get overrun with paranoid people. :P I actually like driving on snow, I've never had much of a problem with it myself. I'd love to be at the Point with a few inches of snow on the ground and snow falling, talk about some unforgettable rides.

i am a little miffed that the weather is not cooperating this coming weekend!!

we were gonna head out there this weekend for our first trip in three wears and now it aint. gonna. happen.

i am just getting over a cold/sinus infection and MF and TTD in 50-degree weather is NOT in the cards for me.

that said, IF tghe cold front breaks by Thursday night/Friday morning, we MIGHT attempt it.

stupid Midwest weather....

You are the reason I love crappy weather at CP. :)

Um, I've never gone 100mph on a sled. In fact, I doubt I've gone more than 20 mph on a sled. I'm not sure of the comparison there.

I sincerely doubt any outdoor rides would be open. A substantial amount of snow on coaster track would make the ride inoperable. Can you see Raptor laboring down through all that snow, valleying under the loop? Maybe Disaster Transport...oh, wait, it would probably leak snow.

I suspect they would have to close the park, period. How many snow plows do you suppose CP has to keep the parking lots from turning into a...hmm, well, a parking lot?

I'm sure they have a couple to keep areas clear for the full timers (office staff, maintenance) as well as any construction crews that are on site during the offseason. They probably don't have the capacity to clear the entire lot within 2 hours, but I'm pretty sure they have equipment available.

Goodbye MrScott

John

Yeah, that was what I was thinking. To keep that huge lot clear during a heavy snowfall would probably require more equipment than they have on hand. That's interesting, though. Do you suppose they have some sort of contingency plan with Sandusky in the event something like that took place?

Hey Chief you are correct, there isn't much of a comparison between a sled ride and going 100mph, unless you are on a luge (90+), which would scare the bajeezits out of me. :) My point was that you can still have fun on a coaster even in colder weather. We tolerate the cold for other traditional winter activities why not on a coaster too? Just my humble opinion. Blue Streak goes about as slow as a toboggan which is way slower than 100mph and it is still fun. :) ENJOY!
