smoking and littering problem

I know this topic goes back to 2009 but I wanted to bring it up so I wouldn't start a whole new thread. After visiting Cedar Point yesterday, it's no wonder why Cedar Point never gets an award for cleanest park. Yes the midways are always clean, but when you go in the queues, it just seems like guests don't care about where they throw their trash. This is something Cedar Point needs to consider in the future.

They should have sweeps in the queues periodically. I also noticed the stalls during the season could use more attention during the day as well. When I go to use a bathroom stall, I shouldn't have to wipe down the seat before using it. Granted that's not always the cleaning staff's fault, but come on. Maybe with Matthew in the office come next season, he'll make some changes in this department as well.

Obviously, the trick is to hire more handymen, and specify their route to include queues. And don't be afraid to use that 'Discipline' button. That's what it's for!

And change the color of their outfits at least once every 3-4 seasons.

Promoter of fog.

Ah, that reminds me of how I will pass this long off season, lots of Roller Coaster Tycoon:)

Just another coaster junkie at Point Buzz

I have to agree with the restroom comment. I understand that being an outdoor environment on Lake Erie results in a ridiculous bug population, but in a full year of being at a WDW park most every day and not seeing a single bug in a guest restroom I can't buy any excuse for not at least reducing the nastiness of the bug issue. I hope Matt brings some of the better parts of Disney custodial to Cedar Fair (especially the Point).

The human part of the equation is also something I wish could be fixed, but CP can't fix that, obviously. It dumbfounded me seeing mindless, offensive drivel scratched/scrawled on the walls of bathroom stalls in a workplace supposedly populated by intelligent, mature people.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

I think paper towel was running low yesterday as multiple rest rooms had no paper towels in them. The Magnum bathrooms were especially disgusting, more than normal.

I went into the restroom next to Red Garter during ERT yesterday morning and it was a total mess. Nothing hasd been cleaned ovenight. No paper towels, paper everywhere, toilets not flushed it was disgusting.

Kings Island seems to have an attendent in there restrooms at all times. They are much cleaner than CP.

As for the guests at CP, many are pigs. Guy sgo and urinated all over toilet seats, they don't use the urinal that are open.

The actual restrooms need lots of attention. They are poorly designed. It's one of my peeves.

If the guys bathrooms were that nasty, I shudder to think about the state of the women's bathrooms. Yikes.

My wife says they are really bad. Plus, it's always a sit down job for them so that makes things worse. She hates that aspect of going to CP. She also says women will line jump to get into the stalls ahead of those waiting and many of them are just nasty you know whats. She complained about that Saturday. I don't think I've ever seen a guy line jump in a rest room anywhere. Mens rooms usually aren't that crowded, but still.

Its just laziness. There are trash cans everywhere. Walk 5 steps to the nearest trash can and throw your stuff away.

With the smoking, you guys have to realize that no one wants to smell that garbage. If you aren't able to control your smoking habits that's your problem, but dont bring that around everyone else. Use the smoking area.

I don't wanna try to make it seem like I'm talking myself up, but as an employee, if I got off work early or had the day off and decided to go ride some things in the park, I always saw people just litter on the ground when the garbage can was 10 steps ahead. I always confronted them, but then they would still be too lazy to pick it up and catch a nasty attitude with me real quick. It just disgusts me that so many people live like trash, bring that environment to the park, then want to stand there and harass you until you're off of the ride even though they were the ones in the wrong and you were simply trying to direct them to the trash can.

As a smoker, I have always obeyed the No Smoking policy way before I was an employee. People will always stand right outside of our platform and smoke a cigarette. I would be the first one to turn around and direct them to the smoking section, because their smoke would come up on the platform and families will be standing there holding their nose because they don't want to smell it.

I agree with the above statement 100%! I wish there was more we can do, but not every employee is going to be able to catch all of the smokers who refuse to go to a smoking area because they are too lazy.

I've actually had guests throw their cigarettes at me, call me a dumb bitch, tell me that their smoking doesn't hurt anyone else, so they're going to do it anyway, walk away and then light right back up. It's extremely frustrating and annoying especially as an employee.

^ That happened to me like three times in the same day, apparently people think smoking throughout Planet Snoopy is a great idea, also they think just because they paid $50 to get in the park they have the free right to smoke anywhere want.

That right there is why many employees simply choose not to enforce it. After a few attempts, they realize that being treated like that is not worth it just to have the guests walk away and light back up. Management will always say that if that happens call security, but by the time security gets there the guests are long gone and there is nothing they can do. Also many times, depending on who will show up, security will actually be upset with you for calling them over something little like that. It's unfortunate but it's the way it is sometimes. So, for a lot of employees they choose just not to deal with any of this. By the way, MillenniumSpork, I'm not saying you do this at all.

Gemini 100 (6/11/01)

The park has really made some pretty fancy smoking areas around the park. They stopped just short of providing Lay-Z-Boys and big screen TV. The smokers should use them. The smoking around the park was really out of hand this year. I saw lots of cigarettes in the outdoor walk throughs during HW.

I will totally agree on the smoking issue. I am a smoker and I do also respect the smoking areas. IMO they could use a few more of them or move a few of them.

But this year was considerably worse as I did see so many people just lighting up and smoking. Which prompted me to ask at least 10 people to put them out. Got to love when you get a attitude, which I promptly say I am a smoker but please respect the the rules and designated areas.

If CP is listening they need to set up a area between Gemini and TTD pathways. Since that seems to be a long area void of them.

Make CP smoke-free altogether for park guests (employees can have designated areas tht guests cannot see or have access to). Guests that have to light up can do so in their vehicle. If they light up in the park, they risk being escorted out with no re-entry.

The laziness/ignorance of people just amazes me. I often wonder, do they leave food/trash all over their tables at home? We had the Fright Feast in the Coral Courtyard on Sunday. I was shocked by the amount of families who ate, left their trash all over the tables, and walked away. Some people......UGH!!!!

They really need a smoking area near Matterhorn. There is not one closeby. There is plenty of room in that area to add one. The area near that restroom has become an unofficial smoking area over time.

There is a smoking area over there, at the base of TTD, near the former (*sniff*) PWE area.

I'm fairly sure the smoking in designated areas only is already grounds for removal from the park. As such, I'm not sure that prohibiting smoking altogether would reduce smoking. In fact, it would probably increase the amount frequency of offenders.

Maybe, but a couple high profile cases like Six Flags had a couple years ago will cut it down. And not to mention, it's free advertising when they go to the press to complain about it.

The park either needs to go to no smoking and enforce it strictly, or get rid of the policy all together. I said it when they implemented it, it was a feel-good policy that had no teeth and was going to garner more complaints than praise. It doesn't seem much has changed.
