No, -1. Reporting isn't about reprinting press releases, it's about talking to people who were there

Because anyone here could be verified..I could have called and said I was on the ride, or in the area, etc. How is what I say able to be verified. Poor sources and poor reporting. Some kid on here who wants to troll (hell lets use Pointguru as an example). Could call in and say whatever. Fact finding is such a thing of the past, which is very upsetting.

I will say you should be quite happy, sure this sites traffic had a huge bump lol

You would rather contact enthusiasts, fanboys, and random members of this and other enthusiast websites. Nor would you find any facts yourself using other news websites...

To Walt's earlier point, there's a substantial amount of knowledge and insight here, even if it is hard to find among the noise.

...or even this website itself using the search function...

Um, have you ever tried to use the search function here? It's utterly useless. No offense Jeff - PB and CB are some of the most reliable and efficient sites I visit.

...everything happened as safely as it could, and everyone lived to enjoy another day alive. I'd call that a good day.

I'll +1 the latter half of your post, and add that as a result of this failure, Skyhawk will be more reliable and less likely to suffer the same failure in the future.

Well there are people, but again, that post could open it up to anyone, that's my problem. There are good sources, especially Dave. His opinion is one I highly respect, and his assessment was very detailed, thorough, and unbiased.

The search function does bite, but it is there..just requires extensive digging :P but isn't that a reporters job I'd imagine :D

Thanks :P though I possibly think Skyhawk may be done after this which is terribly unfortunate.

You're complaining that the reporter is asking questions. That seems silly. I'd agree with you if you were complaining about the reporter using PointGuru's nonsense in their story, but as far as I can tell, no obviously incorrect info sourced here made it into the news. So I guess I'm not sure how this is an example of the death of journalism or whatever.

And I doubt Skyhawk is going anywhere just because something broke. Machines break sometimes.

There is a chance on any ride and any time on any given day that something will happen, it’s just the reality of anything mechanical. It could happen to you on your car ride to the park, you just never know. Look at all the car recalls we see. It happens. I’m a mechanical engineer and it’s the nature of mechanics. Yes, they inspect every aspect of these rides mechanics daily, but who would have thought the carriage stabilization cable would have been the one to fail.

Bottom line it’s going to happen, as humans you can’t catch everything, we’re humans. You have a much better chance of getting hurt driving to the park let alone tripping on your way into the park then you do riding any of the rides.

Part of the thrill (for me any ways being a mechanical engineer I guess) is the fact will something happen this time? That sense of danger I guess. They wouldn’t call them thrill rides otherwise. What thrill would there be if you didn’t think something “might” happen this time you ride. At least that’s what put’s the “thrill” in it for me.

Cedar Point is safe, I don’t care what anyone thinks or says. The crews did what they were supposed to, it was not their fault for anyone’s injuries. It happens. Parts will fail, the crews do their best to assure they catch every part before it fails and replaces it.
Let’s just hope this most recent event on Skyhawk isn’t a Death Sentence to this awesome flat ride. I certainly do not want to see it’s head stone in the grave yard in future halloweekends and pieces of it scattered some where in the park on display as a reminder of a great ride that used to be!

Not a death of journalism, that is reserved for reporters of military affairs, those are just sad. I guess moreover I'm disappointed she wouldn't inquire the park for more details or stick with what she has, which is quite alot of information. But the news has to sell. Just..seems a bit poor in choice IMO, but again, that's just IMO.

Yeah, it's a little disappointing she couldn't stretch "Yes there was an incident on SkyHawk this evening we have no further comment at this time" into a full story.

The press release actually gave quite a bit of information. Some information noone will figure out unless the patients want it released as it relates to HIPPA.

Did the park clamshell following the accident, oh of course, but enough information was out there in regards to the accident IMO. I saw pictures and the press release, and my post a page back was formulated on that. It didn't take much.

I was taking all posts in this thread with a grain of salt until I heard an official statement. I thought it was one of the drive cables that snapped until I read a news article.

In what universe do you think she didn't contact the park? I don't think you need to go to college for journalism to know that you get as many sources as you can. (And for the record, I did go to school for journalism.)

Agreed, but my +1 was more about the description on how the park handled the incident than about the Plain Dealer reporter.

So are you suddenly going to start riding it again?

Or are you going to continue the fear mongering?

If it opens again, I'll ride the **** out of it as I usually do, that's for sure :P

That's yet to be determined. I'll wait and see what happens with this ride.

When it reopens, ride it. I would be the first one in line if it opens while we are there. Whatever the fix may be, i would guess that all of the same ride types would have the same work done to them to prevent this from happening again.

Im always more worried about something happening on our 3 1/2 hour drive to the park, than something going wrong while in the park.

+1 to that....I'll be right with you to be first in line to ride again....

New pics on this news article, showing one of the injured....

Dreer's fiancé also says Cedar Point took over twenty minutes to call for an ambulance.

I find that a little hard to believe. I think that's just their distorted perception of time from being in a traumatic situation.
