Skyhawk Cable Snap - July 26, 2014

Reports are coming in the Skyhawk has had yet another cable fray and snap. This comes after the ride was down much of last year, likely as the park was having difficulty finding quality replacement cables for a previous snap. :(

Reports of a broken leg coming in

Man, it broke the barrier in the front!

Yeah, I noticed that it broke right through the wooden fence. People often stand right there watching the ride. Scary stuff.

I really do fear for the future of the ride now. This is a much more serious incident than last time this happened.

Ditto. It's a shame. Best flat ride in the park.

Hope they give that kid who broke his leg a lifetime supply of Platinum passes.

tragedies like this happen at 3 day carnivals. They shouldnt happen at Cedar Point

S&sS should have had to continue making those cables, idk how a company can decide to just stop making a part, now look what's happening because of, I don't blame cedar point. Prays to the injured and to a quick recovery

Can anyone verify this? If this ride ends up down for the rest of the year again, I'm sure this ride is heading up to the chopping block soon. I got 3 rides on it this year. I know some people here are going to say, it's only been there for 8 years, it's not going anywhere. But if the parts are difficult to find and it's a maintenance nightmare, removing the ride is probably being discussed behind the scenes.

I'm scared for the ride's future as well. The fact that this is not the first time it has happened really concerns me.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!

It wasn't the drive cable like it was last year it appears. It appears that it was one of the cables on the swing arm near the seats according to the photos.

Do we know if the cable actually hit that fence or did they like knock it over to get an ambulance closest to the ride as possible?

We don't. There are only the pictures to go off of.

That's a good point coasterkid, I didn't see that in the pic of the people at first.

How in the world did that happen?!

If they do get this back up and running again, it's unlikely I'll be going on it again. I'll wait until there's an official news story before making any further judgment on this.

Not much here that hasn't already been stated: http://www.sanduskyregister.com/article/5926601

Nah, they just ran with the story once the first pics were posted. :-/

That article posted was just updated with some new info. Still a little ambiguous, but it's a little more to go on. It looks like the ride kept going until gravity stopped it. There is a possible broken leg injury and that section of the park was barricaded.
