Sky ride needs to be longer

Dionsaur...another great point. I drove the trams for part of the 1984 season. The trams had a VERY limited run. Just straight out from the main gate past the security tower about 4/5 of the way out into the lot. It was GREAT for the guests who where parked in the main center part of the lot but once the cars where parked in the side lots people would just walk.
About all that is left of the tramway is the "turnaround" near the main gate...as OTT starts to sing "Memories", it is time to end this post.
Rideguy...go back a few years to when FTown first opened and you had to RIDE into and out of FTown. (By train or FLift). The trail did not open until
1971.
Actually the Frontier Lift was gone by the beginning of the 1986 season, one year before Iron Dragon was built. But I remember an employee telling me that year that it was removed because of an attraction being built for the following year.

As for the parking lot trams...I last saw one of those parked in a field on South Bass Island. Still had the Cedar Point tram livery on it, though I think the Cedar Point logo had been painted over...

That would be about three years ago.

I thought that the Mantis would get in the way also...

Yeah, the Frontier "Trail" was non-existant until the early '70's, just look at the picture on dan's site (www.spiritofthepoint.com) and you can see that the area where the Giant Wheel, and eventually MF are located, the path stops just beyond the train station.
The current skyride, in my opinion, is really useless. For as large as the park is, it doesn't seem to carry people far at all. The first time I went over the summer, my girlfriend and I waited for a car on it, and in all seriousness, we probably could have walked the "journey" from the platform to the Raptor in just as much, or less time. Its more now a scenic ride, being hung in the air that high, rather than a transportation ride.

I agree, If there is any kind of line at all then I can usually walk around the park faster then the transportation rides can take me. I still ride them but mostly for the scenic effect. But I am one who deosn't mind walking and who usually makes several laps around the park on a visit
Of course Iron Dragon would get in the way, the Iron Dragon Station is on of the old Frontier Lift stations, they just redid it for the construction of Iron Dragon!!!!!!!!
NOOOOOO!!! The Iron Dragon Station is a new building. The Main Midway station of the Frontier Lift was located closer to the location of Coasters. The Iron Dragon station is approx. the area of the dock for the Old Western Cruise.
no, read up on you CP history there Pal!!!!!!
Where did you read this "fact" in the CP history according to the Lemon Chill Guy?
Check out this link for a look at the CP Midway in 1979...you will see the Forntier Lift on this map. Notice the location of the Western Cruise station....

OTT is 100% right on this one.. I remember riding both rides in those places... Matter or fact, if I can find a way to scan them, I will scan the frames from my 1976 and 1977 Cedar Point View-Master reels that show you where they are..

While the midway Skyride might not travel far, and frequently does not travel as fast as you could walk it, I don't think Cedar Point would be the same without it. You get great views, plus it is nearly a midway landmark!

PO!NT OF VIEW - A Different Look at Roller Coasters
http://www.crosswinds.net/~justmayntz/thrills/
Skyrides appear to be vanishing in a lot of parks, making CP's ride even more of a classic. I usually always ride it butmore for fun then transportation purposes. I wish it was longer just to prolong the view. It is hard to get good arial views of CP. Roller Coasters only provide a couple seconds, Skyride isn't long enough to really soak everything in either and Space Spiral needs to linger at the top for a couple of revolutions. It's not like they have to maintain high capacity on that thing.
Yeah, the Iron Dragon station was renovated! It was built new in 1987.
ok, I looked at that map and the station is EXACTLY where Iron Dragon Station is today, redone for the coaster. Western Cruise is where Mantis istation is today. Ask any ride op silver
You are getting close CP 4ever...The ID station is located where the Western Cruise dock was...I know because I was "Full Time" when it was built. Plus I spent a summer walking that dock...see photo. The Frontier Lift Main Midway station was located to the RIGHT of the Iron Dragon queues. The Mantis is built in an area which was just marsh and swamp. And NO the Iron Dragon station IS NOT the old Frontier Lift Station "redone"...I beleive you will see a photo in the near future in which BOTH the Iron Dragon Station and the old Frontier Lift station appear.
whasent the paddlewheel restrant(think thats what it was called)put in the place of the fronter lift?
Yeah OTT, I'm gonan be digging through my old pics tonight. I KNOW I have a pic from that summer showing both buildings still standing. I've only got like 5000 pictures in storage..

Time for the old-school to teach the young whipper-snappers some lessons..
Hmmm? I thought sure the Frontier Lift station was torn down before the '86 season (read: before the Iron Dragon station was constructed).......

But then, you guys got photos; I just got faulty memory...
