Notice most of the other SW's are in year round locations??? That and SF was in the middle of thier "lets see how much $$$ we can spend in a year" phase.. and NOW look at thier short and long term debt situation.

VertiGo Rides - 82 Farewell my good friend..
I had friends who called Geauga Lake Whitetrashistan. Frankly, I always found it to be a dump.
I agree that the changes need to start at the top. A friend of mine complained to a ride supervisor after the morons running Wolf Kabobs let the train sail through the station not once, but twice, after allowing a three-foot kid on the ride. The supervisor blew us off. We called the Ohio Dept. of Agriculture folks and they got a surprise inspection shortly thereafter. They did get fined after the end of the season.
Funny thing is, after complaining, we watched a ride op on their Boomerang check restraints then curl up in the corner for a nap on the platform during the ride cycle.

That is how come I got the email.
I have heard similar stories of the marine animal deaths. I heard that they lost all of their stingrays and, if memory serves, a walrus. Seeing as many of their animal caregivers have quit, I think that says a lot right there.
As for pre-Six Flags: I was proud to work at the park from 1988-1992. But, I will admit that I left the rides department because I saw too many cases of negligence on the part of management. In one example, they kept the go-karts open after a piece of the guard track broke and jutted out into oncoming traffic. It was closed only after I went to the Director of Ops and told him of the danger. In another case, more extreme in my opinion, they did not address the brakes on the Dipper after the first significant accident because of costs, and an identical accident happened a year later.
However, there were many good people that worked for the park back then and it was in the later 90's that things started going down hill. I would be willing to bet you that most of the Geauga full-time people that are still there now (though that isn't a whole lot) would say they were happier under Funtime management than under Premier/Six Flags management.
You can ask any succesful business man that runs any business that involves customers coming into your business about what is one of the most important business tatics and it will proabably be cleaniness and customer support, I went to geauga and sea world (when they were open) and it was great, very clean, and the people were very helpful. I go to SF, and its CRAP! For an example: Serial Thriller. Geauga Lake days - cool steam effect, clean, photo shoot, never broke down that much. Six Flag days - no steam, trash all over the swamp, broke down alot, no photo shoot, mean employees! Oh well, I like the rides, but where they are at really sucks, and this rumor about the hyper coaster in the wildlife part, if it comes true in the following years, poor animals! All that noise. I just pray that they clean up the park and their act!

its the ride, not the records
Rollerfan what you said is absolutley true.I went to SF and IT SUCKED.The Villian and Big Dipper were good along with Batman:KF but the rest SUCKED.I am sorry for any six flags fans on this site (HAHAHAHAHA Six Flags fans on this site I kill me) Anyways it was dirty the employees were rude and the safety pracitices were nowhere near Cedar point's.So ends my Six Flags bashing.
"Rollout Me And My Homies."
I try not to go to Sf at all anymore to show my disgust with their park. I do go once a year when I get a free ticket. I do like X-Flight and thats at the front of the park so I dont have to see all the garbage in the park.
The problem with SF's is that they can't have any standards in hiring. Its too hard for them to find what they have already. If they go for the CP type employee I imagine they would only have 5% of their needed workforce.
When it was Geauga Lake the park wasn't that bad in the 70's-80's. In the 90's it started to get really cruddy and has been steadily going downhill since. It's really sad because as a kid I always loved going there. I no longer buy season passes even tough I live within 20 minutes of the place. I rather drive the extra 40 minutes to go to Cedar Point.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Six Flags already owned the park when Serial Thriller was installed. Only the name had not changed yet. (Six Flags, Inc. was actually still called Premier Parks, Inc. at the time, the reason that their stock ticker symbol is still PKS.)

Now that you mention it jeff I do remember talking to a security guard back in 1996 and I remember him saying that they were going to be bought out but he did not say by who.I thought they were going ot be bouht out and the park being demolished.
"Hey Osama We Got Your Terror Right Here And Were Going To Run It Up Your Rear."
Jeff, you are correct. But the point is that the same folks were in charge whether it was Premier's Geauga Lake or SFWoA.
No, SF should not get new animals and the ones they have should be shipped to Sea World before it is too late.
These clowns are in the business of Amusement Parks and they are not doing a great job at that. They are not in the business of "Marine Animal Parks", contrary to Marine World, and they shouldn't pretend that they are. They are giving parks like Sea World a bad rep.

I was quite suprised to get that email, and wondered how the heck they got me on an email list in the first place. I know I've never given it to them for anything, and I have yet to visit a Six Flags park.
Regardless, I'm not about to support something like this from a park where I hear as much bad as good. Untill the good outweighs the bad, I'm not even sure I'll even visit.
I do have fond memories of my 1994 trip to Geauga Lake and Sea World.

I was was a strong Sea World supporter. I even had a fun pass in 2000. I almost renewed it the last day I went in October 2000, but I decided to wait till they opened in 2001. I'm still waiting... Probably the best decision I made.
I've only been to Six Flags Geauga Lake. (They were called that in 1999). I have always heard about six flags parks being "deathtraps." I think that term might be going to far, but the more I hear....
I think Cedar Fair should have bought Geauga Lake when they had an oportunity too. I think I remember that they were going to at one time. I liked Geauga Lake. I used to visit there more than Cedar Point, now, I haven't been to Geauga Lake since 1999. The more I hear about SFWOA, the more I want to avoid that place.
I think CF should start a "Save Old Geauga Lake" fund. Get enough money together to turn the heads at SF and buy it, then turn the place around, and rename it back to Geauga Lake. :) I have confidence that CF can have enough forethought for animal safety as they do for human safety.

It makes tons of sense to me. Keep the competition at bay. Imagine the marketing possibilities if the parks were family. Busses to Geauga and back. Your season pass (which they would likely charge more for) would get you into two parks with mega thrills.
Kinzel himself says he regretted not buying it when he had the chance.

Actually, there was an interview with Mr. Kinzel a while back in which he said that his biggest regret was not buying Geauga Laue when he had the chance. I'll see if I can dig it up somewhere.
