Dear Season Pass Holder:
As I’m sure you are aware, SeaWorld Cleveland was sold to Six Flags, Inc. back in February of 2001, creating the all-new Six Flags Worlds of Adventure. As an agreement of the sale, the park’s three killer whales were returned to other SeaWorld parks across the country. The transfer of these incredible animals was quite a loss for the citizens of Ohio. Up-close interaction with marine mammals offers guests at Six Flags Worlds of Adventure the opportunity for education through entertainment. Upbeat and exciting marine life presentations can bring hands-on marine science to those who cannot travel to visit the ocean.
Six Flags Worlds of Adventure now has the opportunity to bring killer whales back to Ohio. We have requested permission to bring to Cleveland a female orca that was born in a marine park in France, and a male orca that currently lives alone in a park in Argentina. The National Marine Fisheries Service is reviewing our request and has opened a second 30-day period for public comment.
Won’t you please assist us in this amazing educational endeavor by writing to the National Marine Fisheries Service to express your support of the importation of these orcas to Ohio? Let the government know what a valuable tool these animals are in teaching our youth to care for and respect marine animals and their environments. We sincerely appreciate any positive and encouraging comments you would care to submit. The address for written correspondence is:

We are proud of the fact that the people and the animals at Six Flags Worlds of Adventure have played a positive role in the Cleveland community for generations. We have welcomed the residents of this great metropolitan area with our exceptional educational wildlife displays and world-class entertainment. We have always been, and will always be, a place where loved ones can come together to share fun times and create fond memories.
Thank you in advance for your help! Remember, the deadline is March 27 for submitting your letter. We hope to have the two new killer whales here by this summer to share with you and yours, and to return to a tradition that has helped make Cleveland one of America’s best places to live and raise a family.
Sincerely,
Rick McCurley
Vice President and General Manager

I agree... they sure as hell won't get my vote.
An employee who goes to school with my wife indicated that allegedly they recently killed an entire saltwater tank in the aquarium, several thousand fish. A sealion allegedly died recently too. She explained that under Busch rule, there were always veteranarians on call, but now, no more.
Again, this could just be a disgruntled employee, but at the same time Steph and teh biologists we visited with had some other concerns just based on the visuals. Hell, after seeing how clean the Penguin Encounter at Sea World Orlando is, I know with my own eyes that the one in Cleveland is a mess.
I don't mind captive whales, since most in captivity were born there and can't go wild, but this is not a place I'd want them. Even if they had the best people there, the way the rest of the park is maintained doesn't exactly indicate high standards. I certainly don't trust them to maintain wildlife.

I also heard the story about the saltwater tank from someone who STILL works there.
Having grown up in zoo's (literally, my father was second in charge in Toledo.. then #1 in Birmingham.. then one in NY and now working for Zoo Atlanta) I can't stand to see animals in less than spectacular health.
Although on my trips there last summer, I enjoyed several parts of the park. I commented SEVERAL times about things I saw wrong. Just based on my knowledge of spending most of my childhood working in zoo's.

Six Flags can't empty their stinking garbage cans! What makes anyone think that they can clean a big fish tank?
Their park is in horrible condition and the daily maintenance stinks. Their bathrooms are disgusting.
Cedar Point has a very clean park and facilities. Another reason why they beat the pants off of SFWOA.
I feel bad for those whales if they get shipped there. At least we have the option to walk out of the park.
Very true about walking out, Daredevil, but the best way to show your disgust for the park is not to show up at all. When attendance starts to drop off heavily, some changes will have to be made with regards to basic park operations. The info on the garbage cans is really gross, and I will have to look for that next time.

Actually, they tried to free Willy (Keiko, I got to see the animal in Oregon), but he won't go. He always comes back to his pen, and the wild pods won't accept him. That's why captive whales can't be released into the wild.
Funny you mentioned the bit about them not measuring people. Brandon and I saw them outright allow people on Big Dipper who were too small. What do you know, they got fined not long after.
