Six Flags Magic Mountain stealing roller coaster capital title from Cedar Point?

Not to double dip, but I will soon have a chance to make a comparison between CP and Six Flags as I will be moving to Saint Louis and will check out the SF park there.

SFSL is a surprisingly fun park, somewhat of a lesser known gem. I suspect you may like its coaster lineup.

One thing (among others), in my opinion, that Cedar Point has over Six Flags is that it can offer an amazing amusement park experience without depending on alot of commercialism or pop culture references. While rides named after Batman and Superman are cool, it is an asset that Cedar Point can generate a fan base for being what it is: a park with a great collection of rides in an awesome location. There is a real sense that the guest is at a classic amusement park as opposed to a more manufactured experience.

It was cool a while back...now it's just creepy in a very disturbing way.

Ride Evel Kneival or whatever it's called nowadays. That thing is awesome.

Cedar Point just needs to build the tallest and fastest GCI to date and slap a mid-course brake run on it to keep capacity in check and all my hopes and dreams would be fulfilled. ;)

I would much prefer a smaller, and not quite as fast, GCI. It's a woodie, not a 'woody'. The size doesn't enter into it.

^ As Wooden Warrior at Quassy can attest, it's not the size, but how well you navigate the directional changes that matters. ;)

The only Six Flags Park I like is Great America. Six Flags definitively is good at the random effects, but not much else. IMO, once being at one Six Flags Park, you have been to them all. There is a Batman: The Ride in every Six Flags Park.

Cedar Fair keeps the area around their rides very well maintained. Six Flags thinks it is acceptable to put a roller coaster on a parking lot, rocks, or overgrown grass. I think Six Flags has good ideas, but they totally cut corners in places that it is very noticeable.

1. Batman is a great ride that is more intense than raptor, so what's the problem with a bunch of six flags parks having a great ride? So can I ride a tatsu, x2, el toro, mr freeze, Texas giant, raging bull, nitro, riddler, superman, or bizzaro at all six flags parks? Nope....

2.Cedarfair parks have cookie cutter rides as well. It makes sense from a buisness standpoint. A perfect example would be windseeker, impulse coasters, and planet snoopy. I have no problem with parks having some of the same rides.

3. Well maintained areas? Really? How?

4. All coasters at cedarpoint are on rocks or grass, so I am not sure where you are going with that.

5. Six flags only has one coaster (scream) that I know of that was built over a parking lot.

6. Cut corners? Please elaberate.

I am not on here to start a cedar point vs six flags war, but I have to point out that your facts are wrong for the most part.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

By the way, I think Batman The Ride is terrible compared to the other 6 B&M inverted coasters I've had the pleasure to ride. I guess it's nearly completely a matter of preference.

As far as SF parking lot coasters go, the on only other painful example is Medusa at Discovery Kingdom.

Do those 2 palm trees even matter? lol

I'm looking forward to checking SFSL out. The only Six Flags I've been to is SF New England. I went there a few times before working at CP, and I visited it in its pre-SF days when it was called Riverside Park. Outside of Cedar Point, the park I've been most impressed as far as its coaster lineup is Busch Gardens Tampa.

One thing Six Flags is awesome at is designing water parks. While Soak City is a fun place to visit (and work), the visual appeal of the Hurricane Harbor water parks definitely blows Soak City out of the water (pun intended).

I think the coaster wars ended a long time ago myself.

As for CP vs SFMM - as someone mentioned the season pass holders may start to suffer from CP burnout after a gazillion rides/trips. My heart will always belong to my Raptor and CP but any trips lately have been to just see my CP buds, not so much to ride the rides anymore.

But I have to say that I LOVE SFMM it is without a doubt 1 of my fav theme parks. Both trips I made to this park were amazing. Not just because of the themes (I love themes) but the coasters were INCREDIBLE! X2 was awesome, unlike anything else Ive ever ridden before, Terminator Salvation an incredible woodie-one of my favs, Riddles Revenge totally kicks Mantis's butt to the curb, BTR was the best BTR I had ever been on, Scream was great, Goliath was a gray out machine, I enjoyed STE more than TTD, Tatsu just a tad better than Manta, even Ninja was fun. I adored everything about SFMM and can not get back to Cali soon enough to go again :)

As for the location, SFMM is built between mountains the view from every ride was beautiful mountains. Maybe its me, but I prefer western mountains views over north Ohio water views any day.

I dont think CP needs a dive either, Shreika is ok but not CP worthy.

The problem with having the most of anything is the quality of the anything.
A park can have 100 coasters but what good is that if only 10 of those 100 are even worth riding?

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?

1. I guess it is just preference like someone said above. I find it an "okay" ride; but having the same major roller coaster at 5 different parks gets rid of the uniqueness factor. The same thing can be said for the Superman: Ultimate Flight; I can ride that at 3 different Six Flags Parks. To answer one of your questions, you can ride Mr. Freeze at 2 different Six Flags Parks.

2. Again, it is the matter of the preference of the customer. There is probably the same number of enthusiasts who oppose having the same ride at multiple parks as there are who like the idea.

3/4. Now thinking about it, both parks are maintained very well. I based my previous assumption on a single image of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.

5. Scream! at Magic Mountain and Medusa at Discovery Kingdom were built on parking lots. They didn't even get rid of the parking lines. Tony Hawks Big Spin and Terminator were both completely cut off from their themes.

Six Flags has improved so much since the Burke/Shapiro eras. They added some pretty good additions this year to Six Flags over Georgia, St. Louis, and Discovery Kingdom.
