Cedar Point may not have the most - but you certainly get to ride more. That counts a lot more towards being the coaster capital of the world then a park that has one more - but you can't even ride half of them on the average day. Out of about 20 trips in the past 10 years, I've managed to get on all of the roller coasters in one day once, maybe twice -- and that was not a day when every coaster at the park was running. That almost never happens. For that reason and many others, (not to mention distance), Magic Mountain will never be any real competition with Cedar Point. In fact, MM is so bad I will only go when I get tired of telling my friends "no" -- or if they have a coupon to get me in free. You wont find the amusement park experience here as it's among the worst parks, (if not THE worst park), I've ever visited. Cedar Point - flaws and all - is a National Treasure.
I broke down and went today, (is is possible to feel ripped off when you don't pay to get in?), and we only managed to get on 6 rides. The park always seems to be running with a few dozen employees --both summer and off season -- I feel sorry for the sucker who has to check every seat belt on every train by himself for minimum wage. I'm sure these workers are supervised somehow, but I do not believe I have ever seen a manager inside of the park. I guess it's a good things they they only run one train on most of their coasters? It also doesn't matter that they rarely have all of their coasters running since you can't ride them all in a day when every ride in the park has an hour wait.
For those of you growing tired of the Point - take a moment to appreciate what you have. Things have gone down hill a bit in Sandusky, but it's not a Six Flags experience. Not by a long shot. I told my friends had we spent the day at CP we could have ridden every roller coaster, some of them twice, and a dozen or so other ride AND taken in a show and had great French fries and cheese on a stick. This was during the annual complaint session at Wendy's after a day at Six Flags.
Guess I need to vent.
Long time lurker who used to be JUMBO JET.
I couldnt agree with you more. I went to MM over a two day period over New Years and it was a decent experience. My biggest complaints are the one train operation when you have a line over 1.5 hours. To me its inexcusible..."yes Ill take your money but I have no intention of providing enough employees to service you." However every single midway game was open with workers yelling at me to pay $5 to throw some ball.
I enjoyed X2 and Tatsu which were great experiences but for me thats where the great rides list ended. Terminator was an OK ride but IMO is nothing in comparison to Prowler at Worlds of Fun. In short, I wouldn't plan any more trips to MM let alone multiple trips. On the flipside, Ill drive 5 hours to CP 5 times a year to experience their lineup of coasters.
Green Lantern's debut at Magic Mountain got pushed back to July 1st.

No they probably needed more time to paint some of the pieces yellow, and then change their mind and paint them green again. ;)
R.I.P. Mr. Scott
I just want to point out that, as much as I love CP, MM's coaster collection is far better than CP's.
I typically visit both at least 4-6 times a year, as me and a co-worker are both going on business trips frequently between California and Ohio, and although I always enjoy CP's fun atmosphere, it's MM's quality coasters that I enjoy riding more.
And I wish CP had a Multi-D coaster, I can't get enough of X2 and, now, GL:FF when I go the mountain! >.<
Are all the coasters at MM running when you go there. I know CP's main priority is to keep all the coasters running.
This does bring up a topic which I find interesting. In the past couple decades, there have been innovations in roller coasters that Cedar Point has not jumped on at all. I know, I know, some are considered "fads", but it is at least interesting to observe that in terms of different "types" of roller coasters, MM offers a collection that Cedar Point really can't touch, especially with the new edition of Green Lantern.
Now that said, I have actually never set foot in the park, so I have no idea what it's like in reality. :)
Promoter of fog.
MM does have CP beat big time when it come to the variety of coasters, but they also have virtually no flat rides, so it's a bit of a toss up. I know SF parks, and MM in particular, were often criticized for not running all their coasters in the past, but it sounds like that's changed for the better in recent years.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
Personally I'd love to visit Walley World with the Griswolds and ride the Screaming Mimi.
Don't even think about it, little boy. I will race you back to the Mean Streak and win.
It's a great park(sfmm).
X2, golioth, viper, tatsu, terminator, riddler, collossas, are all great coasters. The rest of the coasters are good as well. I can't wait to get out there to try the zack spin.
I have been to both parks quite a bit, and I do have to give sfmm the edge over cp.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Was a big S%^$ Flags fan for a long time UNTIL we made our first trip to CP in 2008...have not been back to SF since and don't care if I ever do.
CP, flaws and all, is a far better park, better run, better maintained, less expensive over-all, the coasters are all running and even tho the capacity issue has taken a hit in the past couple years, it is not nearly as bad as SF...Then again SF has the capacity issue on purpose to force you to fork over for the fast pass scam.
And I'll take CP's collection of world class coaters any day over the junk SF has...I used to think Great Adventure was the best park on earth...it can't hold a candle to CP.
MM can one up CP in the collection but as many have pointed out, the location alone puts CP light years ahead. Not to mention, it's quality, not quantity.
I don't really care what SF does...with MF, Dragster, WT, Magnum and the rest...I'm more than happy.
And I'd like to point out that as bad as many make mean STreak out to be...just take a look at what has happened to Colossus over the years. It looks like a heap of crap, and that used to be a beautiful coaster to look at.
Just my opinion
The only Six Flags Park I like is Great America. Six Flags definitively is good at the random effects, but not much else. IMO, once being at one Six Flags Park, you have been to them all. There is a Batman: The Ride in every Six Flags Park.
Cedar Fair keeps the area around their rides very well maintained. Six Flags thinks it is acceptable to put a roller coaster on a parking lot, rocks, or overgrown grass. I think Six Flags has good ideas, but they totally cut corners in places that it is very noticeable.
One thing (among others), in my opinion, that Cedar Point has over Six Flags is that it can offer an amazing amusement park experience without depending on alot of commercialism or pop culture references. While rides named after Batman and Superman are cool, it is an asset that Cedar Point can generate a fan base for being what it is: a park with a great collection of rides in an awesome location. There is a real sense that the guest is at a classic amusement park as opposed to a more manufactured experience.
