We alll remember waiting in long lines for new rides. In a way its sort of tradition. Its like years later after a ride's novelty has worn off you can tell others that are too young to remember that when this was new you waited so many hours for this.
So my question is should this be included in fastlane or not? I am sure they will have it. There is too much money to be made. I am sure all the alloted fastlanes will sell out everyday just for this. It will be interesting to see how long the fastlane is compared to the regular line.
It will also be interesting to see what effect this has on the lines of other big rides especially Maverick since that was the last big thrill ride.
It will also see what GateKeeper does to the overall attendence for the park and if they will set a record.
And "slow lane" aka normal line for all of us regular park goers who can't afford to pay $60 per person just to hop on rides that quick, while the fast laners bypass us. :)
Out of sheer curiosity, what would be the logic of omitting the park's most popular ride (next year) with the longest line from the system that helps you not wait in line for the popular rides?

I remember using my VCR, to. :)
Promoter of fog.
With the Early Entry, Extended Ride Time and Bonus Ride Times added this year for Platinum Pass Holders we rarely waited in line for anything if it was 1/2 hour wait. We scheduled our visits to CP to coincide with the benefits, and rode everything in the park multiple times without excessive lines.
I am sure they will add Gatekeeper to the benefit times, I really hope they continue the Bonus Ride Times added this year.

I hope Guiness is on hand. What is the world record for the longest line? Gatekeeper will break that record easily on Opening Day.

What makes you think the crowds will be longer than Millennium?

Because this ride is right at the front of the park. If you aren't paying attention you can miss a Millennium Force, you could miss a Maverick, you could miss a Top Thrill Dragster.
^I disagree completely. Especially MF and TTD. They are the tallest ones. You cannot walk to Frontier Trail and "miss" MF. Same goes for walking the the back of the park the other way and "miss" Dragster
^^I completely disagree too. I think it's almost impossible for anyone to miss Millennium and Dragster. That's like going into Chicago and missing the Willis Tower. You can pretty much see it from any direction you come in.

What I mean is, you are FORCED to see GateKeeper if you plan on doing more than driving around the parking lot.
MF wasn't cleared to run three trains when it opened, and as such, will have had longer lines by default. No coaster had ever been 300 feet tall, and the media circus was insane and international. This ride will be popular, of course, but it's hard to beat 2000.

I'm sure it must've been crazy.

In the morning/early afternoon especially, I'd assume that the line for GK will be massive. You're right, it's the first ride people see (so for those who haven't been to the park, it's the first thing to do), and because it's new it's also the first thing to do for people who have been to the park in the past. These two factors combined with ease of access and visual appeal is sure to create one nasty line, especially on crowded days.
I'm with you on the possibility that GK's lines could exceed that of Mav and Mil, at least on certain days and at certain times (of course being a more frequent event during 2013 as opposed to later years), but I don't know if it's going to make a record. Guess we'll have to wait and see to hear from some Millenium and Dragster opening day/year riders to give their comparison come May 2013.
It will have long lines in the morning for a long, long time. I would not expect any records to be broken though. This model of coaster has already opened elsewhere, and it does not break any significant world records.
Whatever the line may be, I'm sure it can handle it being a B&M. I was very impressed with how Diamondback handled the massive line on its opening day.

I followed the building of MF immensely in 1999, taking pics of the footers from the old Giant Wheel location. We would drive up in December to watch the progress and to see the 1st hill getting topped off.
I can tell you that MF had the largest line I've ever seen for a coaster, ever. The queue was totally full back by the last banked curve before it returns to the station, the wait was 6 hours at the end of the line, which snaked down the Frontier trail ending up by the Glassblowing shop/ snake river falls observation bridge. It was the most massive wait I've ever seen! I waited until our next trip in July and waited 2 1/2 hours then.
P.S. Another cool thing that winter of 1999 was seeing the Giant Wheel getting dismantled and being moved to its current beach location, a slow process, that was a site in itself.
Quick side question: Will GateKeeper have on ride photos?
Favorite coaster: Millennium Force
Favorite flat: maXair
Very curious on how that would be done. Would it be the full train or have two separate cameras capturing just the seats? Do the other winged coasters have on ride photos?
If they were to have on ride photos, it would probably be done like Raptor how it has 2 separate cameras for each side of the train. Just my guess.
Or they could have one on each side, for example, coming down from the airtime hill. One camera on the left that takes the left side of the train's picture and a camera on the right that takes the right side of the train's picture simultaneously.
