Valleyfair is getting the same ride as Pipe Scream (here called Northern Lights) and they claim it a "coaster". I think not though
I like the Route 76 concept and that Valleyfair is bringing back their car ride.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
I agree it does seem to be a very cool concept, I really would like to possibly head out there and see how well it turns out. So far Mr. Ouimet seems to be doing pretty well with what I consider theming.
Gatekeeper, not really theming, has the whole idea of it flying over the gates, so thus Gatekeeper.
But I think we will really see what Mr. Ouimet is capable of with a seasonal park budget next year.
From the renderings and just how they have introduced the attractions for next year seems to be very well thought out.
- Banshee: and Kings Island seems to be relatively well "themed", and a cool one at that.
If you consider an massive B&M invert flying over an eerie Irish Cemetery to be part of a backlot set(action zone).
- Route 76: Seems like an awesome concept, bring back some classic rides, and a rather unique placement.
We really haven't seem a whole lot of this under Kinzel, adding "themed" areas, or lands.
- Kings Dominion: Congo is getting renamed to an original Safari Village. Not entirely sure what this entails but I guess I'll have to wait and see.
- Knotts Berry Farm: Also getting a new area, Boardwalk( I think), with some cool new things.
- Canada's Wonderland: They are getting an interactive dark ride that goes through Wonder Mountain, which if done correctly by this young new Canadian Company could be very nice.
- Cedar Point: And we come to Cedar Point, from the few rendering I have seen for the new Gemini midway, it is going to look awesome! Pipe Scream, is going to be great for the park, I'm look much more further to this than Banshee down south. A fan, who isn't a big fan of Inverts… (it works better with my KIC screen name).
But over all I'm very pleased with Mr. Ouimet so far, I just hope these new additions live up to what I expect.

I think this addition will definitely make use of an area of the midway which really has been a "move through" section for years. You are only on the Gemini midway when you are heading for something else really.

Any word yet on whether the park plans on calling Pipe Scream a coaster or not? Now with Valley Fair's similar future addition being considered a coaster, I'd expect the same for ours.

Top 5 CP Coasters: 1. Steel Vengeance 2. Millennium Force 3. Maverick 4. Dragster 5. Magnum
Coaster Count: 102
The park can call it a sub sandwich if they want, but it wouldn't change the fact that it ain't a sub sandwich.

What about the one at Kings Island? Is that considered a roller coaster? If one park calls it a roller coaster, shouldn't it be chain wide?
You're putting way too much thought into this.
Most of us would agree that this ride doesn't fit the generally-accepted definition of a coaster. As such, it it's not a coaster, regardless of how it's promoted.

The only reason Cedar Point would call it a coaster is to get the "Coaster Count" up. I don't think the park wants to try and pride itself with the coaster count anymore. Mr. Ouimet said it him self, We don't have the most coasters, we have the best coasters.
The Crystal Method is the only way to find The Winner!
CP management is smart enough to know that they would be laughed at if they tried to add this to their "coaster count."
I mean they are, right?
Laughed at by whom? A bunch of enthusiasses typing away on their keyboards? Because 99% of their visitors would say "Oh cool, a new kind of coaster".

The stupid, unwashed masses might say that if all they know are the inevitable 2 second commercial clips that show it "streaking down the tracks."
Until they see it, of course, and exclaim "Tarnation mama! That ain't no rolley coaster!"
