Sure it could be done.....by trained people. But not by the sue-happy GP.
How much faster do you think the accelleration on "16" would be compared to say a 727? I know for a fact that Southwest Airlines has seats that face backwards. And the "Sue happy GP" constantly rates them as one of the best airlines....

It will be a lot faster. If you have been on a plane and on Hypersonic you can feel a big difference. Planes do go a lot faster, but they have very long runways and they don't come close to top speed on them. They continue to accelerate after they are airborne and they also slow down before they land. Now some coasters are fine for backwards launches. WT has 2 that are not that intense; but if #16's acceleration is anywhere close to as intense as Hypersonic's, I don't want to take it backwards.
For the record, I *have* ridden Hypersonic (backwards even :)) and I cannot be sure that the difference in "feeling" is because the acelleration rate was so different or because I was exposed to an additional force due to wind resistance. That's why I'd like to see a numerical comparison.

With the hydraulic launch, it pulls up to 2 G's. Xcelerator's launch is 0-82 in 2.3 seconds with a launch of 157'. With that, I can make an educated guess with #16. I'm guessing it will be 0-120 MPH in 2.5 seconds with a launch of around 200'.
If you compare the G force between a plane taking off and #16, The coaster pulls about 2 G's, but the airplane pulls only around .2 to .3 G's.
