What if the seats were facing the opposite direction? We would be launched 400+ feet into the air backwards. Staring at the ground as we are launched up the tower then as we crest over the top hat we are staring at the sky as we twist back down to earth! Whoo! That was fun!
Just a thought.

When it's good, it's very good...
When it's bad, it's wicked

Six Flags: The AOL of Theme parks...
Speaking of ride modifications.. Six Flags should take this rides rival.. "Superman: The Escape".. and attach flying cars to it.
I don't mean make it a flying coaster. Just take the current vehicles and re-do them so you are laying back to the track.
It would be an extreme cross between a launched coaster and a S&S Space Shot!
That was kinda off topic.. still cool though!

"If you're standing in an uncomfortable position, that means you are in the right position because you are riding Mantis!" - Mantis ride op doing spiels on closing day.
Anyway, here is an idea that I have had for some time now relating to the Seat Configuration as well as how the trains might look. Instead of a "train" with four or five cars, what if #16 had individual cars similar to a Wildcat type ride. Maybe there would be room for six people in each car (somewhat like Maggie's cars). The ride would then have maybe 8 to 10 of these cars. Here are some of the advantages that I would see with this configuration:
1. Much lighter vehicles to be launched up the 400' hill (I remember other threads where people talked about the weight problems on S:TE). Less energy for each launch and a less expensive launch system.
2. Cars that have completed the ride can be lined up allowing for easy exiting of old riders and entering of new riders. Two or three cars could always have riders in them, already buckled in and ready to go. It would create a "buffer" of cars that are "ready to be launched". Increased throughput
3. You could basically ride with a small group of friends in your own private car. Everyone would have a great view of the track if the "stadium" style of seating were to be employed (ALA MF).
4. When a car moves into the launch position, it can be "OK'd" for launch by the ride ops much more quickly because there are only 4-6 riders to check on.
Just my thoughts. Should I put on my flame retardant suit, gas mask and helmet?

Plus there's the fact that they wouldn't want to send more than one car out on the track at a time in fear of it rolling back (I forgot what this is called).
If the launch uses a hydraulic cylinder (which I think it does) then hydraulic oil is fed into it at a very high volume rate to make the cylinder move very fast and accelerate the vehicle to over 100MPH in a few seconds. I would think that it could retract nearly as fast even if there is some type of accumulator in the system that needs to recover for the next launch. Certainly, the launch mechanism should be able to reset within, say 10-15 seconds.
I'm not saying that there would be more than one car on the "fast" part of the track at a time. If the major part of the ride lasts 15 seconds (as others have implied), then the car would be at the end of the brake run, ready to make that slow 180 degree turn and stop at the "unload" part of the station.
If the overall cycle time for the ride is 20 seconds and each car holds 6 people, the capacity would be 1080 per hour. This is about the same as WT.
