Seat Configuration

Thats what the speculation sounds like to me...if so....it will be a great ride, as I have taken cat shots before!

Go to this thread, and read ThePhantomLives's post. That explains it pretty well.

Launch: Tophat: Twistage: Brakes...

...Denial is an ugly thing.

I keep seeing comments on how and why you could not be launched backwards on this ride. I didn't know where else to post this, so I will put it here. I was in the Navy and worked on C2-A aircraft. When these are launched off the carrier with people in them, we are facing backwards. I do not see what the problem or big deal would be. You would just have to tighten everything on your body, and scrunch down in your seat....but alas...it can be done. I have taken several CAT shots, and lived through all of them!!!

Sure it could be done.....by trained people. But not by the sue-happy GP.

True. But the first time I went off the Carrier..I wasn't trained. They just told me what to do right before the launch. But I didn't think of what the GP would do. Good point.

If you would be launched backward, you would need more restraints than the t-lapbar this coaster is going to have. Otherwise, you're head would go flying right down into your knees and that my friends wouldn't be all that thrilling.

i hear that if you have to pass out, putting your head between your knees is the best thing. (i guess so you don't fall over?) so hey at least you wouldn't hurt yourself on the ride, just after the launch you're in the right position.

How much faster do you think the accelleration on "16" would be compared to say a 727? I know for a fact that Southwest Airlines has seats that face backwards. And the "Sue happy GP" constantly rates them as one of the best airlines....

My main comment about all of this "backward launch" discussion is: Why would anyone even want to be launched backwards on this ride? In my opinion - The majority of the potential riding public will want to be facing forward to have the best view of the launch, the ride up the hill, twists, etc.

Ideas like this are just peoples ways of coping with the fact that our new coaster is going to be under 4000 feet. A few weeks ago I convinced some poor soul that IM'd me (saw a post on the boards and thought I was "in the know') that this is going to be a 4D coaster.

OK I'm new here but I've been reading the forums for over a month now and this one got me thinking. This coaster could be launched backwards (sort of, but I'll get to that later) without complaint from the general public. All that would need to happen would be lay the riders on their backs. A system similar to flying coasters could be used to recline the seats. I know that this is not what is going to happen, but if you were layed down on your back, all the g-forces would be transfered vertically (at least to your perspective) instead of throwing your head forward. All the g's would push you into your seat. And just think of how cool it would be to go down that vertical spiral headfirst! Just a thought I had.

I agree with irys. It would be very cool and it would add the inversion that everyone is wanting because on the way down you would be upside-down. That was some good thinking irys. I hope that this really happens

Seat configuration just may end up being the "twist" we're all looking for.

Another thought I had, but this time a negative one: if flying coaster-ish trains were used, it would mean longer load/unload time (think of getting into the harnesses, checking the harnesses, reclining the seats, clearing the train, ride time, raising the seats, undoing the harnesses, getting out of the train, repeat). Longer load/unload time= longer waits in line. Seeing as how the line is likely to be 2+ hours for most of this season and maybe next, I dont think it would be practical, or guest pleasing to use this type of seating.

You living in your own little world arent you, Irys. There wont be any flying coaster type trains.

NYC Subways, The next best thing to riding roller coasters.

No, I'm not saying there will be. I'm pointing out a way for the backward launch to be made possible. I'm not saying that it will happen, but it would be REALLY cool if it did.

-irys-

It would be REALLY cool if i had a million dollars too.

I too think we may see a different train style here. I've said this before in another topic a month or so ago. If the alternating color pattern is to give the effect of speed, then a normal style train would only benefit the front seat riders. Even if it were stadium seating, only the first couple rows would see it. I was thinking maybe a floorless but I don't know the clearance in those twists. There may not be room for a train of that height.

If the front half faced forward and the back half faced.....oh, nevermind ;)
