MATTHEWGELMAS - Wildcat has to go because you haven't been on it in three years?? If that were the case with everyone, there would be no rides or amusement parks in this world!!
I would really hate to see Iron Dragon go. Most people hate it, but it's a great ride for new roller coaster riders. It was my first "big" ride, as it was also almost everyone in my family's first ride. I love Iron Dragon!!
If Demon Drop, Aquatic Stadium, and DT was removed for 2010, that park of the park will have a bit of room to zig zag around.
A thought...take out The Wildcat and the crummy dorms behind it, while redirecting the road closer to shore, and you've got a good chunk of land. Of course, take out CCMR and use Milly island, and you got a bigger plot of land to use.
I think it's inevitable that a coaster will come down eventually...I can't imagine CP would want to upkeep so many coasters as popularity falls. When was the last time Corkscrew had more than a five minute wait? For those that doubt this, I never imagined that a popular family attraction such as WWL would be removed.
Since its relevant to the topic at hand, here's a graph of the ridership of coasters at CP. The graph shows the percentage of rides given by each coaster, based on the total rides given by all the coasters listed.
Here's the Excel source file. See tab 1 for the data, and tab 2 for the chart.

In 2012 Cedar Point might not change its name and could add a new ride. Tentative sources say that it should be a coaster, but there's an almost equal chance that it might be a kiddy ride or large thrill ride.
Hey look, I'm as accurate as ScreamScape.

Corkscrew had waits of up to an hour and a half at different times in the summer and almost always has a line most of the day
2012: Server- TGIFridays- Cleveland Road
2011: Foods: Grill Cook- Joe Cool Cafe
2010: Merchandise: Speed Zone/ Soak City
2009: Merchandise: Speed Zone
2008:Merchandise: Joe Cool Corner Store, Speed Zone
2007:Corkscrew, Cp and Le Railroad, Skyhawk, Kiddy Kingdom, Iron Dragon
dj, I still love that graph. Agai, I found myself poring over it, trying to decipher trends. Why did Corkscrew have a sudden lurch upward and back down in attendance around 2000-2001? Why is Magnum the most ridden coaster, percentage wise? (Okay, rhetorical question.)
I'm guessing that based on dropped ridership, Gemini or Mantis would be the most likely candidates to go.
But Screamscape has to be wrong. Since Cedar Point isn't running out of room, why would they tear down a roller coaster? ;)

What's going on with Gemini? Geesh. That's a horrible trend it has going there.
I think someone counted the numbers on the turnstile wrong in 2001 for Corkscrew!! I can understand the slight increase in 03 and 04 after the opening of TTD. But, wow. That's a huge leap in 01.
I think it would be nice to have a flume ride back in the front of the park though. I loved when Mill Race was up there. Plus, I'm really pulling for the Mack water coaster. Fun for the whole family! :)
I think it has been discussed on here before that maybe CP released the wrong numbers. I think the theory was that the numbers for CPL&E and Corkscrew were reversed. I don't see the railroad numbers on that graph, but I think he had them on another one.

True - they were on the other graph, and also true that it appears as thought the two numbers were transposed.

The only issue I have with that graph, Jason, is that it doesn't give a relative measure of ridership. Maggie's numbers might have gone down, but if overall park attendance has as well (as indicated by the total ridership of all the rides), it gives a more accurate depiction.
Gosh though... we're nerds. :)
Brandon
I could be wrong, but I don't think those are percentages of the total of all the park's rides. But, just a percentage of the total riders of those rides. I added up the percentages from 1996 and come up with 100%

You know... I did not read all of these posts but my opinion is this...
1.) Disaster Transport sucks, and has no thrill factor, the only advantage is on hot days...but, that is not the thing that Cedar Point likes that ride for, it's a lot of storage. So I think that although they should get rid of it, they will not.
2.) Wildcat is not much better and it reminds me to much of something that you would find at a yearly carnival not at a place like Cedar Point. I think they could fit some flat rides there that would benefit the area. Also, that ride has to slow of a capacity compared to all of the other coasters.
3.) Iron Dragon, I love this coaster, I don't think it will be torn down just because it is weaved in their so well and it makes a great picture over the lagoon (good advertising), and that thing has incredible capacity. I hope they never take that ride down, but if they do, it will not stop me from going to the park.
4.) CCMR needs to be torn down, granted that I do not have a history with that ride, but it is to calm, and it looks like it is about to fall down on its own. Not only that but it has the worst capacity and the loading and unloading process is ridiculous. I understand that is was probably a lot better in it's past but enough is enough, Blue Streak has better capacity, and is a lot better of a ride.
I don't know if you agree with me, but that is what I think...
