Is anyone else scared of heights, but still goes on roller coasters? My first real trip to CP was in '04. I went on Raptor. Whole way up I was like, omg, omg, omg, omg. Then we went down the hill and realize I LOVE that feeling in your stomach.
Favorite Coasters 1.MF 2. TTD 3. Raptor 4. Gemini 5. Magnum
Maverick perhaps? I wanna RIDE ON.
I was scared of roller coasters up until I got on the Great Bear when I was 12. I'm still afraid of heights and will not go on things like the Eiffel Towers at Paramount Parks and some freefall rides. Like on Power Tower I would choose the launch side over the lift side anyday :)
1) Maverick 2) Millennium Force 3) Top Thrill Dragster
Mild Acrophobic, coasters do not bother me nor does anything that keeps on moving, its when they stop that there is a problem, and its more of a problem if I am out in the open. To this day Ferris Wheels are one of the few things at parks that generally get a scare out of me (although that doesn't stop me from going on them.)
^ I'm the same way. I ride Power Tower and have a love/hate relationship with it. I love it because it terrifies me, but I still feel safe since there's a harness. I can't remember the last time I rode Giant Wheel though. That thing totally freaks me out. As long as the coasters are moving though, keep going taller. If I had to exit the train on the lift of MF, I'd have some huge issues. ha ha ha!!
I hate riding sky ride, but then i love it. I can just imagine the car falling to the ground.
I am terrified of heights. TERRIFIED! But if they build it, I will go on it. I'm dumb like that. :)
It's always time for a Cedar Point road trip!
I like being up high, being at the top of everything, like tall buildings and whatever else. Also riding in airplanes. Yeah sky ride scares me though, every time I go on it I keep thinking to myself 'is this safe to ride?' and freak out if someone makes it lean one way or the other.

Im the same too. I can ride the tallest and fastest coaster without even thinking about it. But as soon as they stop me at the top of the Power Tower, I'm scared to death. I dont mind it once it starts falling, but anticipation absolutely makes my heart panic. I dont mind being shot upwards either. I hate Ferris Wheels as well. I dont mind the ones like the Giant Wheel as much as I do the ones that just have seats. The bucket ones are alright, as long as I dont look over the edge.
No way! I thought I was prob the only one that loved CP so much, yet was afraid of heights. I grip the rails on Skyhawk at each post, closed my eyes half way up MF's hill, & will NEVER go on Power Tower (the lift side that is) again. The thought of having to walk down the hill d/t mechanical problems scares me to death & keeps me from trying TTD. I just sit there in the stands & look longingly at the take offs. One day I'm going to do it though & conquer the beast.

I'm scarred of heights and still go on roller coaster but never made it on TTD or Mill. Hopefully this year i will ride them though.

I like the side that shoots you up on Power Tower, but still don't like the drop side, even though I've been conned into riding it a few times now. Usually the first ride of the year on all the big rides is a little nerve racking, but after the first big drop I'm right back in line.
dont be afraid haha it almost impossible for it to stop on the top so either way if you make over or not youll be on the ground. Yes I do realise that there is a possibility of stoping on the top and most likly somone will post a video of that right after this but yea. i remember seeing a show about this were they took people to a park and tried to fix there fears and explains why it happens. All i can rembember was expisition g force was in it.

I'm not scared of heights really, but what bugs me is waiting on those tall platforms before I ride. As long as I'm securely snug in a harness, I'm fine. Waiting on those platforms, though, that gets to me from time to time. Raptor gets to me more than others, because it's up 2 sets of stairs.
Things like CCMR & Gemini, not so much, because they aren't as high in the air, and they are more enclosed than Raptor.
Looking forward to Cedar Point- July 4th-5th, 2007!

I'm the same way about power tower. I love it because it scares me. I love the drop side more than the shot side. Its the sensation of free fall that I love/hate the most.
As far as coaster lifts go, those don't scare me at all.

I feel much better if the ride gets up the hill quickly. Even though it's shorter Magnum is worse for me than Millenium and even TTD because it feels like it takes forever to get to the top. I'm gettig better, I can actually look out at the lake now rather than stare at my shoes for the entire lift...Of course it would probably take tranqualizers to get me out of my seat should any coaster get stuck on its lift hill!
In my opinion, to get the true effect of a roller coaster, you should have some fear of heights. Now I understand if you are so scared that you are gonna pass out or piss/crap yourself, then you had better stay on the ground, but to me that feeling of nervousness and that queasiness (sp?) in your stomach makes the ride alot better.

^The thrill that comes from coasters is something that I only had when I was a new enthusiast, after awhile the thrill and fear will be lost because you have desensitized yourself to it. After that, outside of some special first rides (ex. first hydraulic launch, first ride on a huge well respected coaster, etc) I don't have it anymore. Instead I have the fun, mainly those wonderful changes in G-forces especially airtime. However, even back in the day I was never one to scream on a coaster (yell for joy or laugh yes but scream no) and the only coaster that I was truly afraid of riding and had my heart racing up the lift was Iron Wolf @ SFGAm my first stand up.
^^ Gee, you put it so eloquently.

My mom is scared of heights so she won't go on anything bigger than Iron Dragon. I'm hoping she will go on the Gemini and Maverick this year.
People think I'm crazy when I tell them I'm afraid of heights because they know that I'm a coaster enthusiast. I love the tallest and faster coaster types but I too have a problem with being up high just sitting there like a few that wrote on here. I love to ride the red Power Tower but I do ride green if someone wants to go. I feel that as long as I'm moving it's fine... I love Mf and TTD and hope that CP will go higher and faster in my life time (I'm sure they will), but I hope it's not a Farris Wheel type...lol (I'd hate to be sitting 600 feet up in a rocking chair waiting for them to load.)
