Ride Removals: What's Next?

It was just a rumor on there. I forgot to mention that sorry.

That is my favoritest line in the whole world... "I've been a season passholder for the past 15 years..." I have just never used it yet. I for one would be thrilled if the rumors were true. We need a good coaster in my home state of VA and look, you have Cedar Point up there. At least in Ohio, you have two other parks that dish out some pretty decent coasters. Here in VA, we have a Six Flags in MD (OH GOD!!!) and Busch Gardens in Williamsburg... well, should be more like Old People Gardens. The capital of shows and wildlife. I love going to Ohio every year just for the chance to ride some great coasters and pretty sweet flats. And if Dominator was to come to KD, well, that would give me something to do that is on the way to CP and KI.

According to Screamscape the next 2 rides to leave will be Denominator and Thunderhawk. They said that Denominator will go to King's Dominion and Thunderhawk will go to Michigan's Adventure.

Sounds like he defined "they". It's not a very reliable "they" but he did give his source.

And all the rides being removed are from before Six Flags took over and mistakenly thought that some coasters were the answer for competing against Cedar Point. They were wrong and now Cedar Fair is left to clean up the mess.

I find it interesting that pre-Six Flags, everone admits the park was great.

The additions of the Six flag coater set was praised as a great advancement for the park even though it was at the expense of all the great flat rides of the past (i.e. 50s midway as just one example). Of course this was not viewed as a bad business decision because it meant more coaster.

Now- everyone admits the park lacks a balanced set of flats and needs more, but CF is dumping so much money into 4 rides, that they can't build a complete park around it.

Now consider for a minute that CF did not not buy GL to kill it, they would need to remove the rides just to give back the old GL that everyone loves.

I say remove the coaster and I will take my chances.

I really hope those rumors are not true. Geauga Lake looks so good with Thunderhawk, and Dominator where they are and if you remove those, you might as well just kiss Geauga Lake goodbye because people will stop coming more and more. A lot of people out there are fair well like when it comes to entertainment.

If it means that RWB will be back, and Big Dipper and Villain finally get retracked (not butchered), I say CF should do what they need to do. I just hope that this is not another case of removing rides while at the same time doing next to nothing to maintain the rides they already have. I love the park and it is a shame to see the state that some of the rides have fallen in to. They are still fun but they were so much better.

Oh, and to Villain Lover, the I've had a season pass fo X amount of years line doesn't work even if you throw in share holder for X amount of years the higher ups just don't seem to care. I have written about RWB and the waves in the lazy river and have not even received a reply.

Delbert,

Really? I've gotten personal replies in the mail the couple of times I've emailed the company.

It's all how you word it. You have to start out complimenting the park; saying things like how much you love it, how many times you visit, and that it's one of your favorites, etc. etc...

Then you go ahead and make your suggestions or comments.

I've never told them I'm a season passholder, or that my dad is a major stockholder, yadda yadda yadda...

If they want to know that, they can look that up (well, the passholder thing, anyway).

You can catch more flies with honey, rather than vinegar. :-)

Yes I did all that you said. In fact the letter was framed from more of a concern perspective than a complaint perspective. Oh, and by the way I own the shares (I'm older than you think), and part of the concern that I have for Cedar Fair and Geauga Lake is profit driven. I am not a business major, but I hear the same complaints over and over from friends and family members, and I experience the problems myself and they never seem to get addressed. Unlike some other people on this board I feel that all the right decisions are not being made by the administration, and if I sell my shares now I will be taking a sizable loss so the plan for right now is to ride everything out and hope that things will change.

Note: Pre-TTD share prices were above 30 dollars and stable.
