Ride Removals: What's Next?

Reason why they arent making money is because they dont have a really big coaster. They need 1 or 2 over 200 ft tall like Magnum and need a good B&M looper. That and they need more ads in all over Ohio not just in the area they are in and they need more signs to point out how to get to Geauga Lake. I saw for the 1st time a ad for the park on a tv station in Sandusky. It shocked me cause i see Cedar Point and Kings Island ads in Columbus but never Geauga Lake. Besides removing rides isnt making them money anyways. Get some good rides at the park and they will do really good.

^ They already have a B&M. And I really don't think the type of crowd they're trying to attract is all that interested in a Magnum-sized coaster.

I don't know much about park business so I'm not going to type out a whole revision of its operation and rides. But I really hope that they don't remove any more coasters. They would definitely lose my business at that point.

It's called Millennium Force, not "Millenium" Force. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that Michigan's Adventure makes money, and they don't have a big coaster. In fact, the reason that they make money is they are exactly the right size as they need to be, given the park's attendance.

Geauga Lake is similar to Michigan's Adventure. It is not a park to compete with Cedar Point. They do not need huge coasters. Coaster enthusiasts sometimes put blinders on and don't see the big picture at all. Not every park needs to be Cedar Point or Six Flags Magic Mountain.

If it turns out to be Headspin, which park would you guys think would get it? I would think we could eliminate the following parks:

1)Cedar Point (Wicked Twister is already there, no sense in adding a similar ride)
2)Kings Island (Already has Face/Off)
3)Great America (Already has Invertigo)
4)Canada's Wonderland (Already has The Bat)
5)Knott's Berry Farm (Already has Boomerang)

So, this would leave:
1)Kings Dominion
2)Carowinds
3)Michigan's Adventure

^

1) HS is not really similar to Wicked Twister, but nonetheless, CP doesn't need a boomerang

Michigan's Adventure already has a similar ride, I would say - corksrew lifts you up and then drops you through two inversions - basically a mini coaster, just like a boomerang. If it wasn't for that, I would say HS would be a good fit for MiA. Since it's my home park, I would love that. However, I think a Magnum style ride would be better.

Mean Streak.. I say burn it to the ground.

Goodbye MrScott

John

I think we all can agree that GL DESPERATELY NEEDS to clean the old waterpark area. Do that, move those last few flats by WWK here, drop in a fancy new wild mouse, ax HS, and ad some more picnic tables. Simple. That'll give them their room to expand WWK, and give them a nice new midway feel over yonder.

Holy crap... no I did not.

I feel like an ass.. lol

WELL, now that I know whats going on.. I'd say Head Spin might be next. That whole area is just death. They should focus on the Villian/Dominator area.

I do agree with what scroog468 said though.

Crap Corner is almost out of crap. Pretty soon they'll just have to call it "Corner".

Both CF and SF have struggled with the 2 sides of the parks not really being connected. We had the bridge, and the path, then the boats and now a bridge in the center of the lake. The real problem is a large white rollar coaster right in the prime area to connect the 2. Now that same white roller coaster has sat idle for the entire season (much like SV last year). Now my question is this - If CF does remove RWB is that a sign of the end, or a signal of them finally fixing the park for the future?

Dominator coaster from geauga lake is not going no where. head spain ride sucks that coaster needs to go to another cedar fair park. cedar fair management going to choose what roller coaster or ride at geauga lake is going to another cedar fair park. i was right about x-flight going to king island. Cedar fair is not going to listen to everyone on the web to talking bad stuff about geauga lake and talkeing about cedar fair close down geauga lake. they are not going to close down geauga lake.

John,

Dominator is not going to Michigan's Adventure. Neither is head spin (I hope)

Most ignorant line of the week:
"Reason why they arent making money is because they dont have a really big coaster. "

I have a question before people make a big deal out this coaster. Is Thunderhawk in danger of being removed? That's a great coaster and looks great at Geauga Lake. Dominator I cannot see that coaster anywhere because the supports go down so deep in the water and it would take forever for them to move that. And what do they mean by crap corner?

I guess by crap corner they mean the 50s area, over where the go karts and El Dorado are. They removed 2 of the big rides that were there, and now I guess they mean all that's left there is crap.

I think Thunderhawk and Dominator both look great side by side the way they are.

Why do people think they are moving another coaster from GL, anyway?

Thunderhawk is one of the most popular coasters there and it's been there for almost 10 years....OLD GEAUGA LAKE could handle it so why can't new Geauga Lake? Actually, i'm sure if Dominator and Villain were built back in the 90's, there wouldn't be an attendence problem...the problem isn't the park...its whos managing it. *cough*CF*cough*.

^^ Not just two of the big rides. Bellaire Express was SBNO for most of last year, Skyscraper has been down two years straight. Throw in ol' Head Spin and a dysfunctional SV for most of 2006; that was (is) Crap Corner.

As far as Dominator goes, the supports do not go down deep in the water; only the footers do so. If Dominator ever gets shipped off to some other park, trust me, they won't be moving the footers.

If Dominator leaves then I'm not sure if I'll go back to Geauga Lake.

I second that.
WWK is awesome if you like water parks.

GL is not going to build another coaster. Do you honestly believe that a new coaster will bring the crowds and $$ GL really needs? I could see for the 1st year enthusiasts going ga-ga over a new coaster BUT..what about the next year, and the years after that?
Not to mention enthusiasts aren't exactly known for spending tons of $$. Eating yes, spending $$, no ;)

So for GL to have a huge enthusiast crowd isn't going to benefit their bottom line. They need something to get people from around that area to go to the park, if a multi million dollar family friendly water park didn't/isn't doing it I am not sure where they can go from there.

I myself hope Dominator goes to Kings Island. MUCH closer to me! ;)

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?

In 2005, employees at the park, and specifically in the area that was at the time Zone 1, dubbed that area as Crap Corner. We (one of the supervisors) even had shirts made.

According to my shirt, Crap Corner consisted of the following rides:

Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall
Steel Venom
Starfish
Thunder Alley Speedway
Bellaire Express
X-Flight
Head Spin
Shipwreck Falls
Sky Scraper
El Dorado

Of the rides in what was Zone 1 in 2005, five rides have either been removed, or are SBNO!

-Sam (who hopes that Dominator either stays, or goes to Canada's Wonderland).

John McCain: The Ride

Being Mavericky since 2007!

Kennywooddude has an excellent point that shouldn't be missed.

GLP was more than capable of drawing more than a million attendance a season.

But that shouldn't matter. If you can't turn a profit with 700,000, then you really don't know how to run an amusement park. (not that i think the they aren't, it just seems to be the general feeling around here)

There shouldn't be any sort of removal at this point. I can see both sides of keeping or removing the coasters they have chosen. And one can hope that they are clearing space for a new capital project right there at the main gate in a very prominent location for all to see (not that i'm holding my breath). But GLP made money hand over fist for one hundred and twelve years nothing significant has changed in the last six years to make that any different.

**well, maybe not every one of those years ;)
