Ride Removals: What's Next?

If they move the Dominator I hope they out it in CP and then CP will have every type of coaster you can ride and you'll never have to go anywere else.

If nobody goes anywhere else, then the lines at Cedar Point will be longer than they already are.

I don't think anyone wants that, except those that are dumb enough to already wait in a long line for something.

GLP was more than capable of drawing more than a million attendance a season.

In the book "Cleveland Amusemant Park Memories" by Dave and Diane Francis it states that GL was pulling in over 1 to 1.5 million guests in 1953. That was when the park was approximately the footprint of the old monoral. Granted admission was free but if they could do that in 1953 I think they could easily do it again.

We didn't have vidja games in 1953.. Or even really TV.

^ Maybe, but Ill bet they knew how to spell video. :-)

At this point I wish that Six Flags would not have bought Sea World. And CF did not take over.

I just wanted to comment towards Jeff on this one. Not every park needs to be like Cedar Point or Magic Mountain, but In my opinion every park needs to have at least a couple good star attraction coasters. For Example, Michigan Adventures already has Shivering Timbers which is their best coaster. I think they have enough room to build something even cooler like a Magnum XL 200. That would make them better.

Same thing with Geauga Lake! They have Dominator, Thunder Hawk, and Villian as their big star attractions. Do they necessarily have to build more coasters? No! What they could do is build something in that area you guys call crap corner that surrounds Head Spin. Maybe put in a Merry Go Round up front, add some bumper cars, and maybe a Power Tower type ride and you have yourself a new area. Now lets say that Head Spin is removed. That opens the door for future expansion for something really great like maybe another coaster something that will bring people to the park. There is a lot of room on that side counting the area that Hurricane Hanna used to be in.

I used to want to visit this park when Six Flags was in charge... I'm sad to say this. They are really not smart for getting rid of rides. They should fix what they have and add more rides. Not get rid of them! And why would Cedar Fair buy a park that is so close. It would be hard to add big rides to GL without competing with CP. But what ever.

Cedar Fair bought GL so they wouldn't have to deal with competition. All of Six Flags was for sale but Cedar Fair only chose to buy GL, I believe for that reason entirely.

Same reason they bought the Paramount Parks. No competition with KI now.

Some have said they plan on running GL into the ground. I don't know if that's true, and I hope not.

Actually, when Cedar Fair purchased Geauga Lake, it was the only park offered for sale by Six Flags. This preceded by two years SFI putting so many of their units on the auction block.

Oh really? I had heard otherwise. I heard that they had limited parks up for sale and Cedar Point only chose to buy Geauga. I could be wrong though. If so, thanks for clarifying.

When funtime originally put up the lake, they also put up Wyandot and Darien Lake as well. Kinzel ONLY wanted the Lake, so he didn't buy it.

Going off of Villainboi's clarification, it sounds like it's me that's wrong. I had never heard that WL and DL were both offered as well. What I was pointing out was that the huge sell-off of Six Flags parks didn't begin until 2006, two years after Cedar Fair bought Geauga Lake.

Actually Ensign, he is referring to back when Funtime owned GL, WL, and DL.

Cedar Point (Kinzel) had a chance to buy all three in 1995 from Funtime but they only wanted GL so they passed and Premier Parks (Six Flags) bought all 3.

Platinum has it's perks. So does living exactly 97.5 miles from King's Island and Cedar Point

Putting what would be a $15 million coaster today at Michigan's Adventure is a really silly idea.

Jeff,

Last I knew, MI Adv was making money where GL was running in the red. Putting a good steel ride in at MI Adv would be a wonderful asset for the park. I was surprised a month ago that we actually had to wait in line to ride Shivering Timbers on a hot day! The water park was packed and all coasters had at least a 10 minute wait. And remember, we don't have 3 amusement parks close by so we Michiganders would be happy to see a new coaster show up at MI Adv. :)

Cedar Point, Americas rip- rockin', high flyin', sky defyin', record breakin' roller coast

I hope they put the Dominator in CP

When is Geauga Lake starting their rollback sale? Sounds like it's turning more into a Wal-Mart than an amusement park.

Geauga Lake: the world's biggest roller coaster chop shop! Stop in and ask us about our specials! Looking for a gently used Vekoma shuttle? WE GOT THAT! Need a B&M floorless to round out that ride line-up? WE GOT THAT TOO! Geauga Lake! Geauga Lake! Geauga Lake! Where we cut up coasters -- and nothing else!

According to Screamscape the next 2 rides to leave will be Denominator and Thunderhawk. They said that Denominator will go to King's Dominion and Thunderhawk will go to Michigan's Adventure.

"They said that Denominator will go to King's Dominion and Thunderhawk will go to Michigan's Adventure."

Who is they??

Did Cedar Fair say this? Did park officials say this? Did Bill Spehn (or whatever his name is) say this?

If this is the case, it looks as though I am going to need to email Cedar Fair. I've been a season passholder for over 15 years...if these things happen, I will no longer be buying a season pass (x5, cuz there are 5 ppl in my family, and that's not including my dad, my brother, and his daughter, who all get passes, too) and I will drive a little longer to take my business elsewhere.
