Restraint Question

I have always wondered about this. in the unlikely event that a roller coaster was to come off of the track or a Spill water 12/20, was to flip, (like i said unlikely) Would the restraints open? Would someone have to come and open them, or what would happen? With a SW 12/20, what would happen? just wondering. anyone know?

Generally someone would have to come and unlock the restraints. On Dragster and Millennium Force, they'd need to use electricty to unlock them.

I believe most of the other restraints in the park can be opened manually.

Power Tower requires electricity.

I am unsure about Wicked Twister.

Ok, I must be missing something. What is a spill water? Is that what the International Federation of Competitive Eaters would call "reversal of fortune"?

Having personal experience being stuck on demon drop I can safely say they have a key that looks like a tuneing fork.

Most of the new rides require electrical contacts. You can see this very easily in WT's station. Watch the top of the train when it parks and three prongs come down.

I've saw them release the restraints manually on MF before. They bring a big car battery looking thing with a wire coming off of it. They have insert it into a spot in the back of the train. I'm guessing TTD is the exact same thing.

I've seen the "car battery" as well. I was in line right past the unloading platform on the day it opened back up after installing the things for the elevator lift right before memorial day weekend.

Demon drop uses electricity when it can. But like I said after being stuck we had to be unlocked with a special key that looked like a tuneing fork.

I understand that, but what happens if the car becomes derailed from the track? do the restraints automaticly open?

First off, coasters derailing doesn't really ever happen. There's only a couple of times where a ride has actually derailed.

Second, the restraints all remain locked until they are manually released or they are released in the proper position in the station.

The restraints would have to be manually open, except in some freak occurance (like say the derailment caused the foot-pedal on corkscrew to get hit hard enough to release). Even in a derailment the restraints should and are designed to stay closed.

So theres no saftey trip that will unlock the restraints?

There is a manual release that would have to be activated by a rescue worker (in the event of a derailment) but there is no way (except by extreme fluke) that a restraint can come open in an accident.

Thats what I was looking for. thank you.

The reason was that Mr. SS said so. Even though a ride had worked perfectly for almost 20 years, Mr. SS said they had to, so they did.

Good ol' Mr. SS. "Improving" safety through wonderful restrain changes that make perfectly good sense. At least to lawyers.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Lawyers can make anything make sense. That's part of the problem.
