I am wondering, are both levels still used on the ride, or do the alternate which one is used?
Shoot the rapids, tame and dry. Thunder Canyon, wet and laughter. Snake River Falls, soaked and smiling. White Water Landing and the old shoot the rapids, Fun and missed.
I do not remember ever sitting on the top level. I do not think that they have used it in years. I remember something about a bee hive being up there some time ago.
2008 visits = 38, 2009 = 19, 2010 = 11, 2011 = 14, 2012 = 10, 2013 = 14, 2014 = 14, 2015= 13, 2016 = 11, 2017 = 5, 2018 = 3
I used to see it open on really busy days, but I think the last time I saw it was in 06. I suspect it has to do with crowds and whether or not they have the extra staffing on days the line justifies it.
^If there was a bee hive, and they were aware of it, I'm sure they got rid of it.
I don't think I have ever been in the top level. There's probably no reason other than need, as to why the top level isn't used anymore. The only time of year I could possibly think of it having a line that big would be during Halloweekends. The problem during Halloweekends is that they always seem to be understaffed because all the younger employees have gone back to school/college. And, I could be totally wrong. But, I believe you'd need another couple ride ops to have to top level going as well. I don't think we'll see the top open any time soon. Or, maybe even ever again.
On a different note, when I saw this thread open again, I was hoping there wasn't someone suggesting they move the ride. They will Never move the ride unless they are getting rid of it.

I remember years ago sitting on the top level.....my brothers and I would wait in line and hope we would get the top level. Also I remember back in the 60's the employee who rode in the car would answer questions from the riders, and do a little commentary. Not sure if this was a regular thing or maybe just one or two employees took it upon themselves to do this.
Please remain in your seat until the ride comes to a complete and final stop.

One day in 2008 the top level was open, we were quite surprised. We asked the ride op why, but he didn't really answer. It was just as hot as the bottom level. I don't know if it was open on any other days last year. I haven't seen it open since that day.
I know that it weems to be closed alot this year. I was told if the winds are so much, they won't open it because it could get stuck and they do not have acrane tall enought to get people out because it is an older ride that doesn't have a system to get to the top like the newer rides.
Life is like a rollercoaster! It is full of ups and downs
Well, there is a ladder on the inside that goes all the way up. Not sure how they could get people out of the lower level but not the upper level in the event of an emergency. Maybe there isn't a "hatch" between the two levels?
I like the Spiral. Wish it wasn't so hot but I always enjoy the view.

The ride has a hand crank that can lower the cabin.
From what I hear, it takes a lot of time and sweat to use the hand crank.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Was the bottom open too? If not, maybe there was a protein spill on the lower level.

I think Space Spiral is more likely to get demolished than to get relocated. Although, I read somewhere that it's foundation is really deep. Remember when they used to feature it in all of the CP logos?

I remember there being a lot of talk amongst those of us in Rides the few days before the "Cleveland Clinic weekend" about opening up the top level on Saturday, though I forget if it actually happened.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Ha, there was a beehive at ripcord for MONTHS that nobody took care of. I suppose that could have been because it only directly affected employees and no guests were ever near it.

WTF? Why did you copy Jeff's avatar? I thought you were Jeff for a while. Thats how I tell people apart around here. :)
Let's Get Weird.
Get rid of the avatar smart @$$. Be more original.

I wonder how often the upper level was used at one time, I bet it's haunted in there, or needs a really good scrub/cleaning job.....
