This "OK" opening day is better than the best day at Six Flags. There is not one reason to argue on Six Flags side. And Steelrider, why would you ever post a topic like this. I would like to see Six Flags build a 420 foot coaster and be ready on THEIR opening day. Once agian, give Cedar Point some time. OK, one day in the whole saeson was "only OK", SO WHAT, there are a hundred's other days when you can go there and have a great time. And please be honest with us, you can not say that you did not have fun at Cedar Point, besides the time spent in line. Unless you sit in the corner of the park and not go on any coaster you had a fun time.

Monty on his first ride on TTD- "I’ve ridden dozens of coasters across the country. Then why did Top Thrill Dragster scare the dickens out of me?"
Picture if you will: Opening day.

The operators of the boat ride let too many people on at once and the boat lists and takes on water.

Pavement that was poured last minute hasn't cured and women get their heels stuck.

Many of the most popular ride are not running.

The plumbers didn't have time to get their work done so there are no water fountains in lieu of having working toilets.

Where did this happen? Six Flags? Cedar Point? How about Disneyland on opening day in 1955.

I don't hear a lot of complaints about Disneyland these days.

I don't bash a Six Flags park because they have a bad opening day. I bash a park, any park, because they have a bad day during the heart of their season. I suspect Cedar Point will pull it together in a very short time.

I have three complaints about opening day. The season pass line to get into the park had one scanner working. To me this is unacceptable. Usually season pass holders in any business get perks. I don't call standing in line 15 minutes longer than my friend who bought a regular ticket a perk. Two, the food service at three stands was slow. Three, the wall in the Dragster line makes you feel like a caged animal. Other than that the park was fine. Its all about customer service and when Cedar Point has more trains running on opening day than SFWOA has during its busy July weekends you know why CP gets over 3 million guests and SFWOA got a little over a million last year.
I went to Six Flags last year for about 2 hours. After seeing how pathetically small their coasters are, and being dissapointed by the "X-Flight" we left for CP. SF seems like a Senior Citizen\Kiddy Park. Plus it seemed weird having to go through metal detectors.

I've been to Six Flags over Texas twice... the first time it was 105F out and they had no electricity. The second time they had half the park closed off because of ride construction. They did take the courtesy of knocking $5 off each $40 entrance ticket though... because those rides weren't running..... what a scam
Opening day - Six Flags Great Adventure....2 coasters running out of 13 and only about 6-7 rides running. They wound up closing early because there wasnt enough people to keep the park running. Yet i have a season pass. Sheesh.

The reality? Dragster is incomplete and not quite ready for prime-time, but it is functional.

The reality? For a park that can move more people through ride queues than any other park on the planet, their skills at moving people through Season Pass processing and walk-up food service are woefully, inexcusably inadequate.

The reality? Cedar Point's season really starts on June 7, the day after CoasterMania. Everything that happens before then is practice.

The reality? Every ride in the park except Thunder Canyon and Wave Swinger was operational. That alone is pretty impressive by some parks' standards.

I don't mean to be a jerk or anything, well maybe I do, but isn't this in the wrong forum?

BTW - At least TTD will be open on a regular day basis unlike X-Flight (or should I say Ex-Flight).

Proud to be a Shoeless Rider!

Live life to the hight.

On my way out of the park on opening day I remember remarking to a friend that if you didn't know it, you would not believe that the park had been closed for the better part of six months.

How on earth do they do it? All those stalls, stands, and games alone must be a mission to staff. Never mind the training of the ride-ops, and the maintenance of the rides. Plus putting in a $ 25 000 000.00 ride that delivered the most insane experience of my life.

My only gripe of the day (apart from THAT wall), was that Mean Streak didn't have 3 trains running. But I bet it will on Friday....:)

I've never been to SFWOA. Every time I talk to my friends about going (even just to check it out), someone talks me down from the ledge and tells me not to waste my time. These are not necessarily CP fans - some of them haven't been to CP for 5 years or more. But these same people NEVER talk that way about CP.

I personally think opening day was AWESOME.

For those 16 extreme seconds, it was worth the wait....

This reminds me of what Jeff stated at Coasterbuzz about WW. Just because it didn't live up to this guy's expecations makes it absolutley horrible. Get over it! It happens from time to time!

Last year when I went, it was one of the most memorable times in my 15 years. Everything was perfect, and I don't remember any bad things happening. Every thing was tip top. I'm hoping it will be similar, excluding dragster, this Saturday. If it isn't, then I'll give it another try in the summer. No need to bring SF into this. Most of the comments you have made stand for themselves.

Has anyone else wondered why steelrider hasn't psted anything else? Kind of weak to put up an argument and not be able to come back with something. Next time steelrider, get all the details ready and be able to come back with at least ONE reason.

God where to start here......I must admit I am a big Six Flags hater, always have been. I have never had 1 good experience there, and would NEVER pay to get in, usually use the free tickets we get from CP to go. Bu8t most of you have it, an ok day at CP is better then the best day at World's of a Dumpster! Plus I thought it was an excellant day, sure Wave Swinger or Thunder wasn't running, which its TOO cold to ride that anyhow. But they opened! It WILL be better this weekend, and hopefully warmer too, so they can get Thunder and blue side on Gemini going. But the comment that started this thread was TOTALLY uncalled for and he still has not responded so lets put this topic to rest, cause we all know which park dominates the World!
They even have Snake River Falls running. However I didnt see anyone in line. They also have White Water Landing running also.

I was at CP opening day with two friends who go once or twice a year. Usually during the crowded, heart of the season. Some unsolicited comments from them: 1) About Last Chance Saloon - "They sure are friendly here!" 2) About Magnum - "It's great to go on this without waiting!" 3) About Midway Market - "Our waiter really seems to enjoy his work, nice guy!" 4) About Wicked Twister - "Wow, that was the best ride so far, I can't believe we didn't have to wait long!" 5) About the day - "I've forgotten how much fun opening day is, thanks for inviting us!"

It seems like some people here are judging their experience by the number of trains running on Dragster. My friends and I had a great day at the park. No, we didn't wait 5 hrs to ride Dragster, but we did have a beer instead. We just enjoyed Cedar Point overall and had a great time with nothing to complain about. Dragster will be waiting for me this Friday after work!

Florida may have Disneyworld and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

Six Flags Worlds of Adventure even has a sign at the opening gate that says "These Rides Will Be Down All Day". There is usually a list of about 3 or so rides, but last time i went there (the day they had the power outage and had to send everyone home; at least we got refunded for our crappy experience) there were 7 rides down! 7!! Superman was down, and Knight Flight was running one train. Villain was down, and X-whatever had only one train running! It was bad! we got on X-Plight and there wet ride thats a kiddie slide compared to Snake River Falls, and the power went out! that sucked!

Opening day was awesome i rode 14 of the 15 coaster i could ride. didn't get on TTD because well i have a regular season pass with all the fixings, first time i have gotten a season pass, and it was my first opening day also, i will be back next year. if you want to talk about trains on the tracks, Gemeni had one side open and 3 trains on its track that is 2 trains more then most coasters at SFMM had in april. mine ride had 2, magnum had 3, raptor had 3, WT, Woddstock Express and Jr. Gemeni only had one but that is all they can have on there. in fact i think every other coaster had 2 or 3 trains on the track at all time. i barely waited in line for most of my day in CP. it was one of the best trips i have ever had to CP. I have been going every year since i was 4 years old, and have never missed a season. 18 years later i have never been let down. i expected long line for TTD just because it is the ride this season maybe even this decade, mean streak was 5 hours on june 21st 1991. i know cause i was in that line! well with that said, atleast our record breaking coaster worked on opening day and didn't break down most of the day like a certain Arrow proto-type did. everyone in line got a ride on sunday everyone was very happy.

Besides the great rides and being the best of everything, the best part about Cedar Point is that it isn't Six Flags! YAY!

I'm a big fan of CP. I went on opening day and had a good time. CP holds a special place for me, because it is where I went as a kid, and now that I'm a dad I get to take my kids there, too.

That said, some of these comments seem a bit extreme.

First, I just don't see the point of comparing SFMM and CP. After all, no one ever wakes up and has to decide which one they'll drive to that day. The only people that choose between them are coasterphiles, and they'll all go to both anyway. There's just no point in trying to compare one to the other. I haven't been to SFMM yet, but a quick visit should be in the cards next year during the family Disneyland outing we have planned. I'm looking forward to it.

Second, some of the Six Flags bashing in general seems unwarranted. I haven't been to WoA yet, but this year I have been to SFMW (early April) and SFA (this past Saturday). I had fun at both parks. True, with the notable exception of Roar East, none of the coasters at either had crews that could give the average CP crew a run for its money in the hitting interval department. On the other hand, these two parks have three wooden coasters (Roar West, Roar East, and Wild One), all of which are at least as good if not better than either of the woodies at CP. I thought SFA's S:ROS was right up there with Magnum, and Medusa West was worth many a re-ride. Neither of these parks is the scope of CP, but each was worth a visit, and I wouldn't think twice about returning to either.

And, just to show what a true heretic I am, I'm planning to take the family to SFWoA once this summer, so my kids can see the shows on the wildlife side.

Finally, most of us who have read steelrider33's posts in the past realize that it is unlikely that anything short of seeing God Herself at the top of the top hat would have convinced him that CP is all that and a bag of chips. Frankly, I suspect the same is true of many of you with respect to SFMM. So what?

Last year I went to a Six Flags park, The Great Escape, (They bought the park a few years ago and haven't put Six Flags in front of it yet) to buy my season pass it took 2 hrs. and 45 min. to go through less than 50 people.

All the times I go to a Six Flags park they always have 1 train running per coaster, and if it duels or races they only have 1 side running. Like when I went to SFGAdv on April 17th. Viper was closed. B:TR was closed (but I hate that ride so I didn't care). B&R: The Chiller had only Robin running. I was in line for Nitro for about an hour already with only 1 train running, then they announced that they were going to put the second train on and everybody cheered. It took them 20 min. to put the train on the track then took them 10 min. to put the dummies in the train. So the line was dead still for 30 min. but we stayed in line. Then they tested the train with the dummies about 15 times which meant they were only loading every other train. They would keep the train with the dummies in it in the station for about a min. after the other train stopped in the brakes. Then it took them 10 min. to unload the dummies. Then they finally got the second train running with riders. So if Nitro was at CP which means running all 3 trains it would have probably cut the queue time from 2 hrs. 15 min. to 30 min.-40 min.

Brian, you said that SFA's S:RoS is up there with Magnum. I can't believe you said that. That ride sucks. I fell asleep on it untill the end/brakes where my head slammed into the seat in front of me.

All I can say is that CP had TTD running opening day...SFGAm didn't even have the Monument running near the end of its season!

Was I disappoionted TTD didnt have six trains at full capacity? Yes. Did the ride more than make up for my six hour wait? Yes.

Let's stop the CP and SF bashing (shoot, I just became a hypocrite) and just enjoy all of the incredible rides we have on this earth!

lol...sfa...that place is terrible, i dont mean to bash the place, but living here in dc, sfa is the only close park...and i havent had to many good experiences there, besides the small collection of mediocre rides and dirtiness and unfriendliness, i would chose cp over sfa in a 1/1,000,000 of a heartbeat...i will give them credit that allthough s:ros isnt as good as magnum, it does give a MUCH smoother ride, which is my gripe about magnum
