Questions for the experienced...

Alright, I have a ton of questions going through my head and I will probably forget half of them... I am 17 and will graduate from high school on June 2nd. I won't turn 18 anytime during the season (October 26)... As long as I can remember I have always wanted to work at Cedar Point. Well, I might as well start with my questions...

1. Will they call you for a phone interview?

2. What types of questions do they ask?

3. What types of answers do they WANT to hear?

4. How exactly do you get the bonus?

5. How do you complete the agreement?

6. Will I be able to get a job at the ride photo?

7. If I don't get there until June 3, will I for sure have to live in Gold?

8. Is it pretty easy to get a job at the best amusement park ever?

9. If I do get a job... is everyone mean to the newbies and the young ones (17)... Would I be able to make a lot of friends?!?

Thank you for all of your help!!! I have been reading your threads and you guys sound like you are experienced and you sound pretty nice too. Thank you.

Kristi

Kristi -- This is what I have gathered from various points throughout the site. . . Hopefully it helps!

1. Will they call you for a phone interview?
-Yes. . . but if it has been like a month, you can always (and should) call them.

4. How exactly do you get the bonus?
-By fulfilling your contract -- working the days you agreed to.

5. How do you complete the agreement?
-(See above)

8. Is it pretty easy to get a job at the best amusement park ever?
-They hire a LOT of people. . . I wouldn't be too worried.

9. If I do get a job... is everyone mean to the newbies and the young ones (17)... Would I be able to make a lot of friends?!?
-There are mean people everywhere. . . But there are a lot of nice people. . . don't worry about this either. You will make some of the best friends ever!

1. Will they call you for a phone interview?

Yes, but if you can get a face-to-face interview it is better.

2. What types of questions do they ask?

Can you work in a fast paced environment? Have you ever dealt with difficult people? Do you mind working 1,000 hours a week?

3. What types of answers do they WANT to hear?

I am flexible, outgoing, willing to do anything.

4. How exactly do you get the bonus?

Complete your contract. They will send you a contract with the dates (IE June 6-August 28). If you work until August 28th, you completed your contract. If you leave August 27th, you goofed.

5. How do you complete the agreement?

See above.

6. Will I be able to get a job at the ride photo?

That is a Merchandise Position, not rides. Put Merchandies as your #1 choice but there are no guarantees.

7. If I don't get there until June 3, will I for sure have to live in Gold?

Not for sure, June 3rd is still fairly early.

8. Is it pretty easy to get a job at the best amusement park ever?

As long as you are willing to be flexible, yes. If you have common sense (a trait lacking today) you will be in good shape.

9. If I do get a job... is everyone mean to the newbies and the young ones (17)... Would I be able to make a lot of friends?!?

Mean to the newbies? No. There are more "newbies" than veterans every year. Make friends? That is up to you. Be prepared for a culture shock like you have never experienced.

Thank you for all of your help!!! I have been reading your threads and you guys sound like you are experienced and you sound pretty nice too. Thank you.

You are going to be one of the younger one's in housing but people don't need to know that. Don't let people take advantage of you.
Have fun!

just kick back and prepare for one of the best summers ever.

Prepare fir? It is hot at CP in the summer. You won't be needing any fir or fur.

Think about it before you do it, Cedar Point seems real cool untill you work there!
Well, it depends on what your expectations are. I know seasonals that worked there for five years or longer who must have enjoyed it or they wouldn't have kept coming back.
Being 17, you wouldn't be able to go to Louie's and that is where most of the socializing goes on, but don't worry, you'll still make a lot of friends.

If CP hired an idiot like me they will hire anyone. Just work hard, be on time, show the proper respect for bosses, guest and coworkers. It is hot, filthy and grimey work at times but all the time that you spend in the park will make it worth it!

That said, the bar in Berkeley we used to go to had renamed one of the songs on the jukebox for us. So don't take my word for it. ;)

Hey Kristi! My name is Christie too! I graduated June 2 last year and was 17! I did not turn 18 till Halloweekends! It is fun! You'll be fine! I had a blast! I was kind of scared at first but after you get to know people you will do fine! Being 17 makes you a youngin but there are alot of 18 year olds and newbies too! So thats all! We will have to hang out when you get there! See ya later!

Oh yeah! U will get a red tag which basically means 18 and over but since you are cool and graduating early like me you will get one. I always told people I was 18 or just let them assume that I was! Dont worry! It is fun!

Just try not to live in the wonderful gold dorms or the cedars! Yuck!. The gold dorms are 100 yrs old as well as the cedars and the smell will relflect this. The noise in the morning is no fun and the common pit toilets that CP calls bathrooms would make Jeff Dahmer turn his life over to Christ!

If you are faced with a choice whether to live in the Rotunda rooms v. the others; it is a choice of the evil of 2 lessers. Rotunda features spiders, webs, asbestus covered pipes, peeling lead enriched paint and no privacy!

Live off sight if possible!

U can live in my apartment in Bayside with me and friends! That way it will be fun when people call and ask for Christie! We can be like which one!

This is my two cents about louies. First off I am not a big drinker for two reasons. 1. its expensive unless you can find someone to buy your drinks for you. 2 Because it's pointless because most of the time you dont remember anything. About louies it is just too loud and too cramped. If you do go first off to get a drink you either need to A. Get someone else to get it for you. B. lick off the NO stamp that they put on your hand. And if you go, and you dont want it to be loud and cramped so that you can barely get around, then go on any day that is not thursday cause that is payday and everyone goes and waste's their money on thursday. But if you dont drink then there are alot of other places to go when you are not working.

I have to disagree wtih that! I loved Louies! I never had a problem getting alcohol if I really wanted it! It was tons of fun! You can go there with your friends and dance, party and have a grand old time! No its not some posh night club but hey it is something to do! Next year will be better though! DJ Todd will be gone! Grrr... I have to admit though that place at times was my downfall! I had never drank a drop and then I started going there and people would buy me drinks! I am a super lightweight! I would be drunk after one or two shots or one mai thai! Craziness! But dont worry I didnt start going there until Halloweekends! I spent the whole summer never setting foot in the place and made tons of friends! There is tons more to do then just go to Louies!

We had the Rec in the late 70s/ 80s and they served 2$ pitchers of what the claimed was Blue Ribbon; in retrospect I think it was Falstaff because my lower colon would feel like a root beer dispenser the day after!

Volley Ball outside and other fun stuff was included. Dances in the ball room every Sunday Night was really cool! .50 cans of Miller was a big plus as well!

I am going to make them have a dance in the ball room! I dont know how but I am going to make it happen! I also want to write for the employee newsletter! Oh well I want there to be more events this year! And I am talking to Louie and we are going to have a Louie Louah, and a Christmas in July Party, and a Halloween party and everything! I dont know if any of this will happen! But I will sure try!

3. What types of answers do they WANT to hear?

Chief Wahoo's advice is good, as he speaks from experience. As a Campus Ambassador, I would also want to remind you that it's perfectly okay to be yourself and to be honest, instead of spouting pre-planned answers (memorizing things will only trip you up if they ask you something you hadn't planned for). Don't say something if you don't feel sincerely about it. DO speak confidently and express what you want out of this experience, as well as what you are willing to give.

9. If I do get a job... is everyone mean to the newbies and the young ones (17)... Would I be able to make a lot of friends?!?

Cedar Point is an extremely diverse and interesting place to work. Therefore, there are many, many different options for fun and socializing during work and after-hours -- if you look around, you will definitely find people you enjoy spending time with who are interested in the same things as you are. Contrary to popular belief, not *all* great socializing at the Point occurs at Louie's -- or with alcohol -- so if that's not your thing, don't be worried.

People of all ages work at the Point, and yes, for a lot of them they are working their first season. You will have plenty of people to identify with as you learn the ropes. You will make friends and good coworkers easily if you work hard, are responsible, and keep an open mind.

Good luck with your job search!! Hope to see you at the Point!
