Does anyone know why they no longer allow video taping on the paddle wheel boat, the sky ride or the train? It sure cant be any danger to anybody, but we were told not to do it.
You can drop your camera into the lagoon, onto the midway, or onto the tracks.
Nuff said.

Probably just a blanket ruling for all rides that doesn't make sense on some rides, or at least on the rides where you could for 30 years without incident.

So what? Its your loss not the Parks. You can drop the camera without using it.BTW,there were no rules against still photgraphs, were there?I know you dont make the rules,it just didnt make sense to me.
Jugga,I was never told not to use a camera on the Big Wheel, or the space needle(is that the right name?)
Interesting.....and if you drop your camera from the skyride, I can see it being more than just your loss. Especially if it hits someone in the head.

Its kind of hard to drp you camera onto the midway from Space Spiral, so that rule is kind of useless there. As for Sky Ride, I can sort of see why, but still, this accross the board rule for every ride is a little silly in my opinion. All of the sudden its not safe to have a camera on Paddlewheel, or CP&LE? Please, its just one of the managers for ride-ops or whatever department that new guy with the science of saftey degree is in.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

PS you are absolutely right about dropping the camera from the sky ride, but if you take it on the ride, isnt that always a possibility? What about the still cameras, some of them are pretty heavy too.My Cannon 35mm is probably heavier than my Sony Hi 8 videocam.Just wondering out loud. Not trying to be argumentative.

The rule is listed in the 2005 Rider Safety Guide: "For safety reasons, we cannot permit on-ride photography of any kind on any ride other than Space Spiral."

At my age they have just taken one of the pleasures I had at CP.I guess thats the last of my season passes. Its a stupid rule, but they own the park. With all this concern for safety, why is there no security re.explosives and weapons like at KI or 6 flags?
Thanks Walt,I appreciate the information.

I've thought about this, and, while it does seem kind of silly, look at it from the lawyers POV... on any of the "slower" rides, other than Space Spiral, there's the chance that an overzealous cameraman wants to get just the right shot, leans too far from the car, be it a ferris wheel car, train car, or gondola car, and falls out & gets hurt or croaks. The worst that'll happen on SS is they bump their head on the window and fall to the floor. The others, there's a chance they'll fall completely from the ride.
I'm not passing judgement on whether or not it's overkill on safety (lord knows there's already enough threads on that), but that's the only thing I can think of as to why they'd have the rule.
I cant disagree with your rationale, but of all the people Ive heard about who were injured or killed at Theme Parks, none had anything to do with photography of any sorts. After all, there are some risks in life.
I take pictures on the Train, Sky Ride, Big Wheel, Space Spiral, and Paddlewheel Excursions. I have asked the people on board if I could take photos and they told me I was aloud.

Top Thrill Dragster - 15
Millennium Force - 15
Benjamin, evidently the people who told you that were wrong.I guess as the operators let you, youre ok.Who else would stop you.
What if they had a rule that was similar to the sunglasses rule for Dragster where you must keep a tight fitting strap blah blah blah, but instead have it where you must where a strap(or the ones that usually come with the camera) to preventing it from dropping.
Though it's just an idea.
-Adam G- The OG Dragster nut
They ban cameras on everything because there are always idiots who say that they can hold a camera without losing it while being launched to 120mph in 2 seconds. Remember when Dragster opened and people whined and complained that they couldn't take pictures while riding? Those people pretty much ruined it for all of the rides, even the ones that they were lax on enforcing like the Sky Ride and the Wheel. Instead of having them whine "I can take pictures on the Giant Wheel, why not on here?", they just ban it for everything-problem solved.
Jedi,I know of no park that allows cameras to be used on the fast rides.I can understand the logic behind that.
It seems like they're trying to implement a lot of "across the board" rules so people won't say "I could do it on that ride, why not this one." Common sense would dictate that things like the train and the Big Wheel would be ok to use cameras on, but common sense is something most guests seem to leave in the parking lot.
