Congratulations. My mom went to Cedar Point on her honeymoon, and was in her first trimester and rode coasters. To this day she totally blames herself for my obsession with coasters.

I also wonder, as a side topic, if we might hear from any current or former ride ops here with an embarrasing or funny story about challenging a pregnant woman who turned out to be just...well... not pregnant!
LOL... we're actually instructed NOT to deny a woman a ride if we suspect that she is pregnant for that very reason.

The conversation almost always goes something like this:
RideOp 1: Hey, is that lady pregnant?
RideOp2: I dunno. She kinda looks like it.
RideOp1: She can't ride, then. Go ask her.
RideOp2: [Forget] that, you saw her, you go ask her.
RideOp1: Well....it's her baby.
And then RideOp3 usually ends up taking them off the ride because they can't fit anyway.
Flat-out asking them gets ugly fast. People have done it, and it never goes well, and it's probably borderline harassment. Unless an op actually hears the woman clearly say she's pregnant, there's not much they can do. But, really, by the time she's far enough along that it would even be possible to distinguish "pregnant" from "average larger guest", they usually won't fit on much anyway.

Congrats. You will soon become familiar with "baby swap".
We had a pregnant woman at Geauga Lake one year who rode coasters all day long. She was, in fact, trying to induce labor. (The policy at the time was that the park could strongly recommend she NOT ride...but could not prevent her from doing so.)
Before the end of the night the woman gave birth to the baby on a picnic table with the park nurse making the delivery.
I don't recommend that as a health care alternative.

congrats on your arrival, babys are a tough thing to take care of in the early stages, our first born arrived the 28th of December. Does anyone know whats the earliest age for us to take her on A RIDE at CP?
quote from Mean Streak operator, "Welcome to Mean Streak. It's so mean it'll rip the heads off your Barbie dolls and steal your lunch money!!!"
Take her opening day. She can ride the train. :)
She could ride skyride too, but you can't take the stroller on there.

Congrats on the pregnancy! My wife and I took the time during her two pregnancies to explore other parts of the park that seem to be overlooked because of all of CP's thrill rides.
A few ideas to think about in addition to the help provided. Check out Challenge Golf. Up until 3 years ago I had completely forgotten that CP had mini-golf even though I complained about missing the old mini-golf course that is where Planet Snoopy is today. It's a great way to pass the time, hear Dragster take off, and listen to the greatest ride in the world's lift.
There are shows are going on in the park everyday, so check them out! Live-E is probably the best I've seen at any other park outside of Disney.
The best part that we enjoyed was the beach. The sun fells nice, the water sounds peaceful, and it gives you an opportunity to see the park in a different way. We built a lot of sand castles and played in the water those two summers and really enjoyed ourselves without riding the rides.
It has really changed the way we go to the park now (not to mention we are toting around two boys now) and it's something that I'm happy I got to do. I was starting to get a little bored with the rides.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Our son was two weeks old his first trip to CP last August and he did was Jugga suggested. We left him in his carrier for the CP&LE R.R., Sky Ride, and Paddlewheel. Seeing that your baby would be 5 months by opening day, you'll probably still have to do the same thing. We aren't going to start Alex on the kiddie rides until around Closing this season when he's 14 - 15 months old, when he's able to walk on his own.

My last trip to CP a couple years ago I didn't know I was pregnant yet. Found out 2 weeks latter. I was a little freaked out about it for awhile but my son was perfectly fine. In fact I can already tell at 19 months that he is going to be a coaster freak like me. He is obsessed with being upside down. When he is upset it is the only way to calm him down.
On a side note...I had a C-section with both my kids and with the second I was riding coasters again after 5 weeks. The doctor said take it slow....so I didn't ride magnum til the end of the day.
"But this begs the question - how many women participate in thrill ride related activities (or anything else for that matter...) before they realize they're even expecting?"
My wife got pregnant BECAUSE of a thrill ride! (Ba-dump, crash!)

I don't know you, but a new baby is very cool!!! Congratulations. Just think, you are bringing a new Generation into the world. Imagine what Cedar Point will look like when he/she is in her 20's!!!!
Congratulations again!
Thank you all! (Great story CP Mac!!) I go see a doc next week Feb 10th for the first time. Doing the baby due-date calender, baby should be due around end of September, beginning of October (conceived sometime in Jan), but we all know any baby could pop out sooner than that. I am craving a cheese on a stick though. (Not sure if thats b/c of baby or if thats just me!)
I do think that memorial weekend will be very different, but as you all say, maybe a different enjoyment. If I recall, the light/lazer show isn't usually playing during memorial is it? A long time ago as a young teen it was, but then it seemed to start later than that :( How sad. I would bring baby to halloweekends once he/she is born, but I get so freezing I cannot imagine what it would be like for a newborn, I think that would be just torture. Going back to memorial... we always do lighthouse point, most of the time a cabin, but I think a cottage will be more enjoyable preggo, i like the sight of the pretty bay (although it doesnt always smell so peachy).
Oh, and to answer the other question: I am one for old fashioned names, you won't catch my child with a first name of Maverick or Raptor, but depending on what the first name ends up, I have considered the middle name of Gemini. I was looking at baby names websites, and Gemini was actually under girl names, and I thought it sounded rather cute. I don't think I would do it for a first name, but Gemini for a middle is something to think about.

Just promise me you won't have it in the picnic pavillion!
Best of luck with the new family member!
:-)
Well if something was to happen in the first month, odds are the women wouldn't know it. They would have what they perceived to be a heavy, late period when in fact it was a spontaneous abortion.
The problem comes as the baby gets bigger, and more blood vessels get involved, and the chance of a women bleeding to death increases more and more.
I was about 2 months pregnant with my son, and we went to Universal. I didn't ride any of the huge coasters. But I did ride Mummy like 8 times that day. My son turned out 100% perfect. :)
Ps. Gemini is a cute name! :)

I went to PKI 3 days after one of my surrogate babies were born and rode anything and everything I wanted to. The only "bad" thing that happened was despite taking the pills to keep my milk from coming in, all of a sudden my entire shirt was drenched. Easy fix-jumped on the log ride! :)

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?
Hey! You got breast milk in my log flume water!
That's two, two great tastes in one. ;)

I love putt-putt at CP, its been a fav for years! I may not realise it now, but I'm gonna be seriously sad when I see everyone else riding around on the coasters and not me :( I did have a dream last night that I planned on working the last 4 weekends of the season at the point and using vacation time at my job so that I could do so while my hubby stayed home with the baby. Some dream huh? LOL!

my fiance and i are getting married at the end of may this year (2009). we have talked about having kids. he actually sat in our kitchen and looked at the calendar and said to be (with a dead serious look) that if i got pregnant by the end of august, i could be back on roller coasters by june, so i would not miss any ride time. LOL. knowing me, my child will be concieved at hotel breakers. i think if my finace had his way, the baby would be concieved at the top of TTD :-)
