Park confirms it was a car hitting utility pole...

(Note- I doubt riders were stranded for "hours" like article alludes)

Pic on twitter. Looks like the poles that run down perimeter road/CP drive betweeen the main lot. No idea how you can even get a car in this position!

The "Millennium Falcon ride"?

Did they not go through a fact check or something?

Sadly, fact checking is not part of news reporting or journalism anymore.

That is untrue and frankly irresponsible to perpetuate.

Maybe it is time to harden the infrastructure at Cedar Point/Sandusky. Can you imagine a scenario where a single car accident would shut down the power at Walt Disney World?

It is time to move from good to great.

Since RMC is on site, have them convert all telephone poles to hybrid telephone poles. :)

Or, they can run their utility lines under Lake Erie in the tunnel being built for the new roller coaster.

The funniest headline was from Business Insider which said "People were stranded on a roller coaster for hours after the power went out โ€” and it's the stuff of nightmares". Maybe next time they can winch up the therapy dogs for the riders. Kidding aside, I didn't really notice anyone stranded for long, I just noticed the rides were not running while on the beach. The Sky Ride cabins were not on the cable, the generator must have worked.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Sky Ride is closed today despite great weather and low wind. While obviously the "smoke" was a dumb headline and it was coming from a backup generator, it does appear that there are some lingering effects.

I left at the perfect time on Monday, just after it happened, as I was pulling out of the Cedar Point Shores parking lot, I saw a lot of rides were down and power trucks on the scene. I knew something major was up.

I was made whole though, because my son and I secured (2) Cedar Point Shores Beach Towels as the give away for the water park over the weekend.

When we walked out of the waterpark around 1:30 in the afternoon, the line for the waterpark was across the parking lot to the road that leads into The Breakers Hotel, looked like it took 30 minutes to just get into the waterpark.

They were stuck on MF for a bit over an hour. We were sitting and watching from the boat. I think the most frustrating part if I was stuck on the red train was that the ride operator told them via the PA that their train was about to move immediately and then it wouldn't. That happened three times over the course of about 45 minutes before it finally inched it's way up the track. For me, it would have to be one of the most uncomfortable inclines to be stuck on.

I don't think the person who first stated 100% seriously they needed to be "made whole" should now get to use the phrase sarcastically with the rest of us.

Unless of course you weren't being sarcastic...

I got stuck on Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster last week on the incline. What made it bad was I was getting eaten by mosquitoes. They kept saying over the PA that the ride would begin shortly and I was sitting there for at least a half hour before they evac'd the riders. But at least they made us whole by giving a ticket to come back another day, which I did and it was awesome!

I actually got stuck on raptor's MCBR once last year because someone lost their phone. A few minutes later, the ride got moving again. I don't remember getting compensation for that. I do remember opening day Tony asked me to do him a favor, and in return I got a couple exit passes. I had to give the ride attendant a slip that had the time of when I got in line. I waited for about 4 hours and then I had to leave because of the accident and I was getting super hungry and hot.

Unless proper protocol was not being used, never would they stop a train on the MCBR because somebody lost their phone. They would let all trains finish the course, stack, and lock out the ride before any ride host entered a low zone or danger area. The reason you were out on the MCBR was more than likely because the block in front of it (which would be the Main block) was still occupied for whatever reason.

Being stuck on Raptor for a couple of minutes due to the safety programmed on the ride is different than being stuck on Millennium Force for almost 2 hours during a power outage. Not saying your ride was more uncomfortable than theirs, but the scenarios are a bit different.

Perhaps the train became disengaged with the catchcar when the ride stopped. That happened once or twice when I worked there years ago. Occasionally when the lift stopped, the momentum of the train would continue to carry it forward a bit while the catch car stopped immediately. Wasn't common but happened sometimes. Those situations took longer to recover from than a typical lift stop. Just thinking out loud.

Now that this crisis is over can we start a pool on when the water main will break this season?
