Plus Size Riders - Smaller Rollercoasters and Other Rides

Why couldnt they install a seat belt that would allow people to ride if the other restrants work? Whats a couple of more inches?

The seat belt on rides like Raptor, Wicked Twister, etc. are a backup to the restraint locking mechanism. If the restraint lock failed the seat belt would keep the restraint safely down. I'm guessing that if the seat belt were made longer and the restraint failed, it would no longer be down far enough to keep a smaller rider safely in the seat.

I'd love to sell you guys cable TV and internet services - it would be an easy sale, and you would never complain if the system went down, made you wait, or you couldn't get to specific sites or channels for any reason. In fact, you would be probably be thankful you just got the pretty lights on your cable modems!

Why are you comparing buying a service (internet/cable tv) to buying an admission ticket? You're comparing apples and dolphins: they're not the same thing.

Perhaps some people should skip a meal to fit into the mechanics of society better, rather than asking/demanding society to make changes to fit you.

What Scottyf said. So many people walking around with an inflated sense of entitlement. Or narcissism.

I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.

Saturday I went to Cedar Point for the first time in several years. There seemed to be some changes in the fit of rides. Some of it could be size but some of it seems to be changes in the seat belts. I'm currently 6'3" 315lbs probably about a 45" waist (46's are getting lose but 44's are still too small). Over the past decade I've been as high as 375 and as low as 285 so I'm currently middle of the road on weight.

TTD - Not even close.

Magnum - Row 2 black train, fit but the seat belt was tighter than I remembered.

Gemini - No problems.

Skyhawk - No problem.

Maverick - Surprisingly, no problem. Last time I visited, Magnum was no problem and Maverick was tight. I was able to get the seat belt no problem and get a couple of inches of slack. I hadn't read anything here about needing to get the belt past the yellow stitching but got it no problem. My seat had the yellow stitching but the seat next to me didn't.

Antique cars in the back of the park - No problem although with my long legs hitting the accelerator was a little difficult to reach. The car in front of me was going slow so I needed to watch the speed to avoid bumping.

Gate Keeper - Wanted to ride this first but when checking the test seat the belt touched but wouldn't buckle. The ride host said I wasn't close enough. I decided later in the day to give it a shot. Rode row 4 without any trouble. I did ditched the jacket between first try on test seat and finally riding. By the time I got in my seat, the ride op was there to check restraints, just a small push and click and the seat belt latched. The restraints were actually very comfortable. I wasn't what you would call stapled in.

So, compared to my last trip, rides with OTSR were easier to fit in compared to last trip while those with seat belts were harder to fit in. It would be because as part of trying to get into better shape, I've been biking and running.

Bumping for 2014, any reports so far? I'm going for a 2 day on June 16-17 and will give my report. Still 5' 10", 270#, large chest.

While I had no problem fitting and there were other riders larger than me the seats on PipeScream are definitely molded for smaller rear ends than mine.

Update for bigger riders. Only ride I was booted from was Raptor which is odd since I used to ride with no issues. I rode TTD for the first time ever due to the tip of "thin shorts". It was tight and needed assistance on TTD and MF. I saw many folks booted off GK (rode 8 times in 2 days), so stick to Row 4 if you are in doubt. I did not try WT at all this trip.

I am 5' 10", 280 #'s, large chest, weight is in muscle and large beer gut. I hope this helps.

Wait, aren't they just a bench seat? I don't get it.

No, they are molded seats. Tight fit for me as well but doable.

Gotya. I passed on the ride because the spinning looked to much for me but it looked like bench seats from the ground.

Live 45 minutes from Cedar Point. First time I went in four years this June and have a pass. I am big boned and wear a size 18 but have a big waistline. Rest of my body (upper body and legs) are athletic.

No problem with Raptor, Magnum, Mean Streak, Gemini, Corkscrew, Maverick, Iron Dragon, Shoot the Rapids.

Gatekeeper - I fit easily just the ride op needs to help me with buckle as its position a little high. Even with strap over my shoulders its not uncomfortable. Feel secure but not painful.

Millenium Force - I fit but a pretty tight seat belt. Other than the top hill the rest of the ride is pretty mediocre in my opinion.

Blue Streak - tight but able to ride.

Haven't been on the Power Tower in years so can't comment on it nor do I like the ride itself.

Pipe Scream, Witches Wheel, - no trouble.

Mantis - haven't been on it in 8 years.

The spiderlike rides ( can't think of the name offhand) no trouble.

Cedar Creek Mine Ride - No trouble with belt or leg room its just the bar, its pushes down on your leg way to hard that its painful.

My favorite rides at Cedar Point as far as comfortable and secure and thrilling are Maverick and Raptor and Magnum. I like Thunder canyon if its a hot day.

I will be going to cedar point on sunday i'm 6'2 285lbs with large thighs and a 44 inch waist and i'm able to fit on all of the rides at kings island but kind of nervous about TTD and MF so if anyone has any tips or advice it would be greatly appreciated

What advice are you looking for? You either fit or you don't.

Its those same people that complain about not fitting in rides that you see getting free soda refills all day, cotton candy, all you can eat, etc. Sorry if I offended some with actual glandular problems, but for the most part you have choices, either ride or eat.

Anyone quoting Dorothy Parker gets a round of applause!

I know this is a very old thread, but I have a question pertaining to older rides and larger guests. My all-time favorite ride is Magnum, but I haven't been on it in ALOT of years. Does anyone know how similar it's trains are seat and restraint wise to Gemini (since they do visually look similar) Gemini I do ride every year and although I have to get in just right (I had to do that with Mean Streak too) I can easily ride Gemini.

Given that info, if my riding partner is willing to ride Magnum, does anyone think I could still fit?
