Planning a 2 week trip to CP in May and need hotel advice.

I looked at the Kalahari website. It does look very impressive. I still like the Great Wolf Lodge though, it gives me a cozey kind of feeling.

I do love GWL's decor. It is very homey. I also love the restaurant there that is all you can eat. The roast beef and mashed potatoes are to die for.

I will from now on, however, only go to GWL when it is a 99.99 special or 119.99 for a Kid Cabin.

They seem to run those special quite a bit and I am betting that once Kalahari opens GWL will be having many specials.

Great, now I am craving their roast beef, lol.

Your kids would have a great time if you stayed at Breakers. There is nothing "haunted" about the hotel, and I think they would quickly forget those stories when they see they can just walk to the beach, pool, Soak City or the amusement park. It really makes for a much nicer visit when you can stay at a resort in the park, you really feel like you are a world away from everyday life.

When in the Sandusky area visit Put-In-Bay and Kelley's Island. A good choice would be the Goodtime Island Cruise from downtown Sandusky. This all day cruise stops at both islands. Click here for cruise information.

There are a lot of tourist attractions around the Sandusky area. Some choices are the Marblehead Lighthouse, Ghostly Manor haunted house (Jun. - Oct.), Hayes Presidential Center, African Safari Wildlife Park, Maritime Museum of Sandusky, Lagoon Dear Park, Merry-Go-Round Museum, Mad River Railroad Museum, and Seneca Caverns. Find these and many other attractions at the Buckeye North Attractions Page.

If staying at the Breakers, the hotel concierge will be able to help you find all these places.

I think you will NOT be bored in your two week visit. Between Cedar Point and all the other attractions your vacation will be filled with things to do. But do try to stay at the Breakers, even if you have to cut a few days to save money. The experience is FAR superior to staying off Point.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

If you are planning to have serious beach time in May, you should know that the water can be miiiighty cold then! If Soak City (with heated water) isn't even open yet, the beach is probably only for the polar bears.

I have stayed in the area at least 10 times last summer at these places: (besides one on point stay)

Hampton Inn Milan

Days Inn Sandusky

AmeriHost Inn Norwalk

Red Roof Inn Milan

My personal choice is Red Roof. Rates are good (I also have a room reserved for $35 on opening weekend.) With small kids its nice, because there is a really good breakfast with a nice variety, an indoor pool, and nice rooms all at an affordable cost. I think that if you are going for 2 weeks, this is your best bet budget-wise. And, if you are looking for things to do, as people have already stated, there is pleanty. Being at the Point for 3-4 days should be satisfactory, but there is pleanty other things to do. Jet Express, GWL, Kalahari, Castaway Bay, Norwalk Speedway, on and on and on. There is also a nice carousel museum in Sandusky. Anyway, I hope that helps!

For the slower pace if needed:

http://www.tomedison.org/ his birthplace in Milan is just miles south off Rt 250.

http://www.merrygoroundmuseum.org/ in downtown Sandusky

Lake Erie Toy Museum on Kelley's Island toys from 1870 to 1980.

Put-n-Bay

Marblehead lighthouse - great shots of CP

http://www.fred.net/stevent/JOHNSONS_ISLAND/Jisland.html Johnsons Island Civil War prison/cemetary for great history, plus great shots of CP

My wife grew up in Marblehead. Thus, this is how I found all these area 'attractions' !!!!!!

We stayed in the HoJo Express in RIGHT at the entrance to the Causeway [as to avoid any early morning traffic].

Cheap as hell, but the rooms were a bit cramped.

Dusk to Dawn has a bad rep on the board? We were thinking of staying there this year since it's apparently been renovated, but if it has a bad rep, we'll probably say no to it.

We'll probably go to the Econo Lodge on Cleveland Road. Is that one any better?

Forget what I said about the Clarion Inn,their prices have almost doubled since last year.Sorry about that.

I enjoyed my stays at the Holiday Inn on Milan. You should check into it. They have a great breakfast too! :)

Clarion doubled? How dare they do that?

Guess they are getting just as money hungry as some of the other hotels I have been looking at.

Dusk to dawn is your best bet, if youre looking for cheap. Its not much to look at,but its clean.

I might be wrong but I think they did some renovations and put the price up too.

with AAA ,39.95 in May

I just checked expedia.com and they say 107$.for may.

I just checked my reservations.7th and 8th of May.$35.95,thats lower than I had said before.Maybe youre not speaking of Dusk to Dawn.BTW,I used cheaprooms.com *** Edited 2/9/2005 2:44:08 AM UTC by Jeff***

Ok now im looking at cheaprooms.com and same thing 107$.When did you make your reservation?

I checked, and youre right. Its 107.00.It must be wrong. There are several motels cheaper including the Clarion.I tired to call them but there is no answer.Ill give you the # in case you want to check.I cant believe that they would be so high in May.It makes no sense.

Yes you want to see crazy check out prices there in July!!

I called cheaprooms.com and they agreed that probably the prices are wrong, but the hotel is the one who put them there,so the agency cant do anything about that.I would try again in a few days,it may change. *** Edited 2/9/2005 2:43:54 AM UTC by Jeff***

If the price is a misprint they should fix it soon. It is on all hotel booking websites,I checked quite a few. Mabey the hotel should be alerted. Im sure they have done some renevatoins but 249$ for july!!! Come on.Mabey the bathroom faucets and toilet seat are made from gold. For that price you should stay at the Piont
