On-Ride Photo

Everyone is forgeting that there is 6 trains on this. They are going to need a huge place to disply the pictures in the little shop things with 1 every 40 seconds.

"...and enjoy the rest of your day here at Cedar Point, America's 'Roller Coast'"
The way I see they could do it is to have a similar setup as Raptor or Millennium. There could be two sides as if there were two trains like how Raptor Photo is. Except take those two trains and divide them by two. Since the trains are shorter there could be 4 trains on the monitors in the space that Raptor has two. On the top halves have two trains and then the same for the bottem halves. This way the same amount of space and monitors are taken up.

Since there would be four trains on the monitors and each train launching about every 30-40 seconds, the least amount of time the pictures could be on the monitors is 2 minutes, which is about how long the photos in any booth at the park are on the monitors.

I believe the whole thing could be worked out one way or another.

Actually it is possible to have an on-ride photo with a coaster that passes the same point multiple times... look at Face/Off at PKI.

World's first strata-coaster!

The reason Face/Off does that is because the first time it's half the riders then the second time it's the other half.

I think the camera should be on the twist, when it's facing the tower. That way Millennium Force would be in the background.

Capacity of this ride is 1500, and MF is 3600. If MF can handle over twice the amount of people, TTD can easily do this.

3,600? Are you insane? MF can't even get close to that! MF does less than Dragster will, if indeed Dragster can hit that target.

MF does 1600 at best
Yeah, 1600 at best
Trust me, there are cameras that are able to take pictures of things doing speeds in excess of 120 mph. Proof? Look at stills of Indy cars from the ground. Sure, they aren't at point blank range like they would be on a coaster, but that shouldn't make a difference. Now, the point I do like is that there would have to be a huge area for the photos. That's a very good point because it would take longer to get the pictures up than it would to ride Dragster.

Actually the photos can be put up on the monitors immediately after they are taken. They are only delayed because it makes no sence for them to be up while the people are on the ride.

I also personally believe that the area wouldn't have to be much if any bigger than any other one.

there will be 2 cameras for 2 different photos of you on the ride!

LOL that is soo true
Greg B: Actually the delay, I believe, would be caused by the check of inappropriate material on the photos.

TTD: She only hinted to a "before and after" shot. I can still think of a few distinctive parts of the ride where the two pics could be taken.

Not to mention, all that was said was "Before and after"... that could mean before and after the launch, before and after the tophat, before and after your head catches on fire... ;)

Some of you jump to conclusions and fill in words wherever you feel like it... that's how you get disappointed so easily. Take what's said for what was ACTUALLY said.

No, the delay is just because the riders are still on the ride. The photos come up automatically on the montiors. It is then the employees responsibility to check them for inappropriate material.

Ah I didn't notice that you were a Raptor Photo Op, Greg. Gotcha! :)

Whoops! I must have been thinking about what I WANTED MF to be able to do. Sorry about the mix up. I confirm, MF does 3,600 at best.....ok ok 1600.

There will be photos taken on TTD. Here's the info on that. For more info go to www.virtualmidway.com & check out the interview with Janice Withreow.

Will Top Thrill Dragster have an "on-ride" souvenir photo?

Yes, and can you imagine capturing the faces of riders as they experience this incredible "strata-coaster?" To leave an element of surprise, I am not going to reveal the location of the cameras! That's right -- I said cameras, as there will actually be two cameras for on-ride photo taking, and when riders purchase their picture, they will get two different ones packaged together (maybe a "before" and "after" -- ha). It's something a little different that our Merchandise Department is working on, and we hope everyone who rides Top Thrill Dragster will want to document their ride as a "bragging right."

My guess for camera positions would be mid-launch and at the top.
Having two cameras is a GREAT idea, and am surprised it has not been done before. Unfortunately, I also expect the price of the photos to reflect two pictures. IMO onride photos are getting too pricey.

I think (IMO) the best pictures would be during the launch and at the top of the top hat. If it is a before and after pic, then I think it will be right before the launch, and after the launch at the top of the top hat.

Tom

On the contrary, two pictures are available on other rides... just none that are two-rider cars. Think about Raptor and Mantis - if you were that hardcore, then you could get both pictures by getting in two different seats... but, that's just ridiculous.
