On Point vs. Off Point Living

That all depends on the room..

I've lived in Bayside the past 2 years and so has my girlfriend and we never had a problem.

.. and before you ask.. yes I've lived in both 700 and 800.. so it's not the buildings..

Last year I lived in Cedars and Commons. One week on Point, and the rest right down the Causeway. Here's what I think of both

Cedars --

PROS - Cedars is obviously very close to work. Being at Cads, it was nice to wake up, grab a shower, and walk about 200 feet to work. Didn't have to worry about parking jams, busses, or the lines at the Space Spiral gate. Very reasonably priced. It's something like 16 dollars a week. I had my own room, but I believe the max is 2 per room. So that means you will have fewer roomates by living on the Point, than by living off. (That could be good or bad, depending upon oneself).

Cedars Hotel was built around 1911, so its really old. But if you like to see how CP was way back in the day, and you also like old historical buildings, Cedars is kindof cool. Being a person who lives in the 2nd oldest house in Columbus, OH, old buildings dont really scare me. I can even tolerate the house ghost most of the time and it won't scare me anymore. I think they're kind of neat. Also you are not efffected by parking bans, and it seemed to be more quiet and peaceful than commons.

CONS - The bathroom/showerroom doesn't look like the most sterile place on earth, and these don't look like they have ever been remodeled, ever. Commons restroms are leaps and bounds better. But at least Cedars beats taking a bath in the lake.

The place has no A/C. It really did not effect me that much cause I haven't had a drop of A/C in about three years (minus the days in Commons). Also it's far from Louie's.

Commons

Pros -- In general, it seems to be more clean than Cedars, and it is more new. Also you're a short walk to the bar. A/C is a plus, and the rooms are also heated. Commons is opened all the time, so you dont have to move out of Cedars after Labor Day.

Cons -- I enjoyed walking to work much more than sitting in traffic jams on the causeway. If you don't have a car, then the bus is an option. I have heard that parking bans aren't really cool, and the commons seems like a cramped jail complex.

I liked different things about each place. Cedars was more laid back, and close, while Commons had A/C and is close to more late night activities. Next year I'll try to get into Commons. Oh yeah and when you get out of the park 35 mins after closing, traffic does not move. So now I'll deal with the traffic. Or I could swim to work! Oh that sounds like fun. I'll have to start training at the pool on Monday.

CADS 2004 -- Our turns aren't the only things that are all "Right".

Edit -- Can't spell
