On Point vs. Off Point Living

What are the benifits and disadvantages of on and off point living. What housing is on point for women? I have heard that it is nice to live on point because you are close to work, and you don't have to worry about causeway traffic. Where is the housing on point located? I also have heard lving in the commons area off point allows you much more interaction and is close to the laundry facility and the store that never closes and the employee center. Which would be better for someone going alone this summer?
I went alone my first summer and lived off point in the commons dorms. If I hadn't lived there, I wouldn't have met some of the most important people in my life today. I highly suggest living off point. It's the best if you're outgoing. It all depends on you I guess.

Off-point, definetly. If not for the reasons you've already listed... think about this:

You'll be spending around 70 hours a week inside Cedar Point doing whatever respective job you'll be doing this summer. Then, tack on the hours that you'll spend playing in the park on your day off, or split shifts, what-have-you. The men's on-point dorms are behind Wildcat, the womens, behind Corkscrew -- smack in the middle of the park. Don't you think it'd be wise to get away from it for a while?

Granted, this is simply my opinion, and I know plenty of people who lived on-point last summer and loved it. Sure, living on point does have a few advantages... but being there 24/7 all summer long is something a lot of people tend to overlook.

I don't have a car, and I don't feel like relying on buses. So on point would be better for me, right?

------------------
A rabbi and a priest walk into a bar, the rabbi says to the priest "Hey, did you hear the one about us?"

In defense of on-point housing, I have to say that I like it better than off-point housing. (I'm only defending the Women's Gold Dorms, can't say that I would ever live in Cedars) Before the on-point housing opens and after it closes for the season, I've had to live in off-point housing. I'm not much of a party person, and I like peace and quiet when I'm trying to sleep. (which is hard when you have people in your apt/dorm that are up till all hours of the night being loud/partying/drinking...not that I don't like to have fun, but when you've worked a 70+ hour week, all you want to do is sleep)

This coming season will be my 4th season living in on-point housing, and I really like living there. You can bring a window air conditioner and are close to laundry facilities (which are almost never in full-use) and you can get to bed sooner and get up later than your off-point friends. While on-point housing may not be for everyone, it's worth a shot.

And EmraldSpider, being you don't want to rely on the busses, unless you have a permanent ride to work everyday with someone that always has the same schedule as you (which is highly unlikely) I would suggest trying on-point housing.

The bus service is quite nice if you live off-Point. Until I had a car at the Point (which was only last season), I took the bus to work every day. You just want to be careful to take the bus that's not the one directly before you have to work. That way, if you miss it or there's a problem with the bus schedule being a bit off, you aren't late. This is especially true if you're on the bus going to the park for shift that starts mid-morning or mid-afternoon -- you could be stuck in traffic behind all the guests' cars...it seems like those times are the busiest for trying to get on-Point.

On point 100 percent. People say Cedars is bad, but I don't think so I mean the rooms I have gotten are nice i mean they may not be big.If ya want to party go on the deck of a cedars hallway to chill. Less noisy for sleeping and rooms are far way more protected as in locks don't break much if you shoulder the door. I know living in commons the locks on all doors were really bad all u would have to do is shove the door to get in a specific room. The floor might look a lil bad but nothing a nice rug cant fix.

Sorry, I totally disagree. I'm a party girl at heart though, so that's why I need to be with my fellow party animals off point in commons. I didn't have a car my first season either, but I found a girl that worked with me and we just rode together every day. If I didn't ride with her, I met enough people in Commons that I could hitch a ride with. Getting a ride isn't as hard as it's made out to be. Plus, I think I was probably one of the people keeping everyone up...haha nevermind just kidding. I just think that to maximize meeting as many people as you can, you should live off point. Sitting outside Commons after a long day of work just smoking cigarettes and gossiping about the day's drama is part of the many fond memories I have of the place :) but that's just me.

I don't think I would ever live on point. i cant imagine living on point. it would be like being at work all the time since you're at the park all the time. im not putting it down, im just saying, its nice to get in your car after working and feel like you're actually leaving to go "home." plus all the people there, its close to louies, and yea the store that never closes is a definite perk. go off point!

I love living ON POINT b/c it's 1/2 the price of living off point, it's right next to the cafe, and after a long day at work, or long evening of riding rides, it's nice to just walk back to your room and not go ride the bus back or walk to your car. I also lived in Commons before Gold opened last season and it was horrible. The bunk beds I had were nasty, people were way too loud and obnoxious (the hallways echo alot!), plus, I had to live with 3 other people!!! I would say go GOLD all the way!

I can't say that living in Cedars was awesome but I can say that the roommates I had taught me a lot about life in general. If you're like me and have trouble getting up sometimes, it's a good thing to be a 10-15 min walk away from work.

This is exactly the problem I'm having. I already know all the pro's and con's to living in both and I still can't decide. Two of the biggest issues is the money it costs to live in each and the traffic. Personally I like it better to not have to drive to work everyday and possibly get stuck in traffic and be late for work rather than just walking to your ride. For now I've chosen Commons, but that may change.

I would definitley not let the traffic factor keep you away from Commons. I was never late once for work because of traffic. Sure sometimes, you were cutting it close, but usually people allow enough time to deal with the particular traffic situation of that day/time of day.

i lived on point my first year... and i ended up with 16 points. Last year i lived in commons... perfect attendance. go figure.

If you dont have a car do on point... the bus deal sucks. And you'll always make friends who could pick you up or drop you off when you're going out or whatever.

Beware of your contract date and what youre bringing with you if you decide to live on-point. cedars and gold close Labor Day weekend and you have to move to commons. If you have a ton of stuff and no car...it can be a pain.

Also, more internationals tend to live on-point... so making really good friends might be a little harder to do there. But then again, my best friend that first year was an international.

My reason to live off point is defintiely the AC. The apartments and on-point can be brutal without it.

Okay, my suggestion is Commons, only because the dorms have A/C which is a godsend in the middle months of the summer. IMHO though, stay away from 1400's. Never liked the all-guy dorms. Too loud and both floors above the first were out of control and just disgusting. Seemed like the only really livable floor was the first. Go 1426! Hmm, now that I think about it I might have to get my old room back... nah! Thinking back, ahh, I can just remember all of the countless times calling security and turning people in at 4am when I just went to bed at 2 and had to be at work at 8! The sounds of screaming...

I'm going to 1500's for the better bunk beds and *slightly* bigger rooms. That and it's closer to the gate so if I'm late in the morning I have a better chance of catching the bus!

2004 - ...not sure!...

I lived in 1400 last year as well and have to agree with Jacob's comments. There was something about it that I just didn't like either. Perhaps it was in fact the lack of girls to keep things a little more "under control." That, and the walk to the gate always seemed to suck.

Live off point, Gold dorms are one good wind storm from falling down, my first season I was in house keeping and we would have to clean them, the are nasty, smell, and should of been closed years ago.

I would not know about Cedars, because you have to be male to stay there, and im not. But i know there really old.

Definitely live off point if you're coming by yourself. I did the on point living for 2 seasons and it was not fun. It was easier getting to work but you really didn't meet alot of people. Its fun living in Commons and Bayside. Besides, you're just walking distance from LOUIES!!!
Definately live off point... I don't think I could stress that enough. Even if you are coming with people you know... live in Commons your first season. Bayside will probably be all filled by the time you get there anyway but if not... i'd still say go with commons. It's the best way to make some awesome friends. I don't especially like the dorms... i'd say try and get an appartment but alot of people disagree with me on that one. I loved my appartment though... I lived with 14 other guys and it was seriously non stop fun. Though my appartment was one of the one's that seemed to always get the cops called on us. Yeah we were to loud but there's nothin anybody could really do about it... CP is about having fun. There's going to be times when you're gonna want to sleep and people are going to be to loud... it happened to me all the time... and i'm sure I caused a few people to not be able to sleep sometimes too. I don't think it's something to call security over but then again... if you're woken up at 5 in the morning by loud music there's nothing worse than that.... except 5AM fire alarms. Anyway... yeah stay away from on point. You're gonna want to get away from CP for a few hours every day after your first few weeks there... and if you live on point... thats a lot more difficult.

Oh yeah another thing I forgot to mention. Stay away from Bayside. Room in the Common Dorms...Bayside is INFESTED with spiders, No joke....I woke up with a new spider bite everyday. my roomie would call the exterminator....they never came...If you like spiders....go for bayside...but if you dont...stay in the Dorms...they are the newest buildings and they shouldnt be that bad...
