Not Impressed?

The first time I stood next to the tower, I was awed because I had to stretch so far to see it! The ride, though, wasn't exactly as I expected. (I guess waiting in line for five hours, freezing and making friends with everyone around me got my mind off the ride.) I was happy to ride front seat... but disappointed that I didn't get any air time. I can't wait to ride it in daylight so I can truly appreciate the views from the top.

------------------
If only TTD had a spiel just like White Water Landing. "Welcome to Top Thrill-Dragster. You [Ride finishes] ..You.... uh... just acended and decended to and from a height of 420ft...."

InclInE LoOpEr got it right when he says that the height of the TTD is masked by the sheer bulk of the support structure. The massive volume of space taken by the tower is probably not to much less than some forty story buildings, and if that isn't true then it's far more substancial than all other coaster towers. Might i also add that TTD is taller than the new Fed building in downtown Cleveland, and that is a building that stands out on the skyline. 35 stories isn't a small building. Is there even a 35 story building IN Sandusky????

As for the ride. When i first heard of the TTD i wasn't to thrilled. But i figured if it had to be a one trick pony you might as go for the best trick possible. And now i think they got it right. Is it my favorite? No. But it is a damn good ride.

The launch is more intense than any other i have been on (not only faster, but also greater sensation of speed and overall length), but the best part is that with the speed you pop right up the hill vertically. Facing the sky on the way up removes your sense of place so that when you do level out and roll over the top, BAM, it hits you with an INCREDIBLE view of the MF and Sandusky as it catapults you back toward the Earth. It's that intense relation to speed at the ground level, followed by the removal of outside referance points that creates the disorientation and increases the impact of the view.

It is the perfect ride for todays average MTV viewer who can't watch anything for more than a second. (You know how videos are now one shot after another just long enough for you to get a feeling or impression of the subject). It's a barrage of the senses, and it's one hell of a "one trick pony". Name me a more powerful 20 seconds right now.

maybe the size isn't to impessing from the round but you love it when you are on the ride. rpm guitar where did you come up with the opinion that the ttd launch wasn't that much better than wicked twister? and nothing worth waiting 10 times longer for. the launch was 10 times better tan wicked twister and the ride was 100 times better!
Quit whining about the size and how you are too cool for the launch...admit it it was the greatest ride of your lives and you have never experienced anything like it before. yes i like millenium alot but i just love the dragster more. STEELRAPTOR don't give up this chance to ride TTD. everyone has there opinion about it but just ride i and see what you think. i know you will be impressed. hasn't anyone thought about WHY wicked twisters line is so short now that TTD is in town now. it's because it is so much B-E-T-T-E-R!
I’d have to agree with ricky williams…STEELRAPTOR, don't plan your trip around a few people who have differing opinions about TTD. We visited Cedar Point on 5/21 and 5/22 and drove all the way from Minneapolis (745 miles or about 12 hours) just to ride TTD. I can honestly say the two rides I experienced on TTD were well worth the drive! The speed and height really gives the body a rush unlike anything else! Pictures of the ride don't do it justice; you really need to get up close and personal with it to get a full sensory picture! The buzz around the ride is great! I've never see so many grown adults acting like kids on Christmas. It was great! And the sound effects are sweet! I'm still smiling as I write this note: "Arms down, and head back, and HOLD ON! Oh yeah, and the sound of a dragster car revving its engine, too cool! And the on-ride photo of us is absolutely PRICELESS!! So my advice is go to the park, ride TTD, and you'll have a BLAST! You'll have to let us know about your experience!
While I just got back from my trip and I can't believe most of you aren't impressed by TTD. It is my favorite coaster. I have to admit that it would be even better if it was longer but it doesn't need to be. I saw it first Thursday night after dark and I didn't think it looked that tall but Friday morning in daylight it looked huge. It was closed most of the day so I didn't get in line until 6:00 so I rode it at about 8:00. I got the front seat of the second train so I got to see the train in front of me pull away. It was awesome to see the train pull away. It just kept going and going until I could barely see it and then it turned up to the sky. Then it was my turn. Then I heard the voice that says "Keep your head back, arms down, and hold on." When it says that the first 2 rows of the countdown lights turn on. I was sitting there waiting and waiting for those 40 or so seconds, which seemed like forever, for the brake fins to drop. All of a sudden I heard a hissing noise and my heart stopped because I thought it was the brake fins dropping (when the fins drop it makes a hissing noise). But I looked and the brake fins were still up and I realized the hissing was probably from Power Tower. Because of that I was looking right at the brake fins when they dropped. So now I looked at the countdown lights and I saw the third row light up. When you watch the countdown lights from off the ride the 3rd row of yellow to the green very quickly like in about 2 seconds (I think). But from on the ride the anticipation is so great that it seems like it takes like 3 seconds to just go from the 3rd to 4th row of lights. Then finally it turned green. We launched so fast I didn't see the grandstand. We just kept accelerating more and more and more. The force of the launch was so incredible. I tried to keep my hands out in front of me but it was so forceful it pulled my arms back and pinned them against the headrest. Then before I knew it I was heading strait up into the sky and we just kept going higher and higher. Finally we started the crest at the top and what amazing airtime at the top of this thing. So high with nothing around you. And then you start to head strait back down. Looking down the drop is soooooooo far and it looks so cool how the track almost forms a circle on the twist when you look at it from the beginning of the twist. So then we dropped. The twist was awesome. When I rode it was pretty dark and they had the lights that shine on the tower on. So when we dropped through the twist all we could see was the lights because they were so bright it made everything else too dark to see. But it was still awesome to see the lights spin around us. Then we flattened out and crossed the finish line. There I realized the speed this ride has. The wind pulls back your face and it feels like it's gonna rip off (if your in the front seat). And all the close objects make you feel like you're going so much faster. Then the brakes finally start to slow you down very smoothly. So what I am saying is that TTD is an incredible ride. Do not pass up this opportunity. I also think this is the kind of ride you have to go on a few times because each time you will notice more and more things. TTD is my favorite coaster but MF is right up there with it.

The topic here is not weather or not we are Impressed by the ride itself, but not impressed by the way the hill really doesn't look all that much taller then say the MFer or the power tower. i think the best way to get a good perspective of this ride is on Route 2 it looks hugiant from there.

If beating old people is wrong, i don't want to be right! hehe

trips to CP:3 Dragster:1 MFer:4 Magnum: 8 doesn't get any better then a nice day in may!

Even looking across the bridge from route 2 i still wasnt awed like i was when i first saw MF, the first time i saw MF i was like "NO WAY!" when i saw TTD for the first time i was like ".......thats it?" probbaly becasue from the parkin glot TTD and PT look the same height. And after riding it for the second time i realize that its not really a "great" coaster like Raptor, MF, or Magnum, which are my 3 favorites. I cant decided which i like more WT or TTD, WT actually lasts longer.........
I didn't think twice about the height because of the speed, and riding drag queen at night with only the lasers illuminating anything added a lot for me. Once up there I did appreciate the altitude if only for the fact that Xcelerator at my home park (KBF) is only 200 ft and 80 mph. And I can't compare TTD with MF or Maggie because that's like comparing a drink with a shot.
The first time I saw MF, I got goosebumps because it was so big. The first time I saw TTD completed (saw it during Halloweekends) I wasn't impressed at all (that could also be because I was excited about being back here for the summer). I'm not sure if it was because I had also seen it being built or because I was an avid webcam viewer and I was used to seeing it. Even today, when I went into the park I wasn't very impressed with how big it is, even when standing at the base. I can admit the one time I was impressed was when I was in the Magnum station and saw the train rush up the hill and then it seemed like forever for it to come back down, yeah, that was impressive. I do have to agree with the others though, looking at it, it really doesn't seem that big. :)

I guess is all a matter of personal appreciation and/or opinion. I was at CP for the first time on May 10-11 and I admit that it looks huge compared to other roller coasters (this is a record-breaking coaster we are talking about) out there. However, I think that it was not that high compared to other structures like buildings, etc. This comes from someone that had never ran (or seen in person for that matter) a coaster taller than 150ft until two weeks ago. I can say the same about MF and Magnum.

Don't get me wrong... Dragster is the most intense ride I've ever being on. Although it is my opinion that MF and Magnum are better overall rides. Maybe because of their lenght and type, you have more time to appreciate them.

As for the comment to compare WT's launch with Dragster's... It is also a matter of personal appreciation, but a launch into 120 Mph has to feel much more intense... again, in my opinion.

why is this a thread about being impressed with how tall it is from the ground? that doesn't matter to me. i was just impressed with the overall setup with the ride and the style of it. here's a good way to get a good prespective of TTD. ride millenium ad keep lookinf at TTD. ride magnum and look back at TTD.ride anything and compare it with TTD and you wil get the feel for the height. and maybe it doesn't look to much bigger than millenium that's because millenium isn't 420 feet straight up!

rickywilliams, this is a thread about if you were impressed from the ground because many people who saw it before the park opened were impressed. They kept saying you have to see it 'in real life' to appreciate its size. When I saw it i really wasnt overwhelmed standing on the ground looking up at it. From other rides I was, especially on Gemini. I wanted to see what over people thought, and apparently, there are several people who feel the same way.

My guess is that the lack of a significant structure to the ride is what makes it seem shorter (if that is possible) than some people expected.

Take away all of the wood from Mean Streak and just leave the track and some legs and it wouldn't be as impressive either.

Well I know that! What I meant was that the first time I saw it completed, which was on May 11th when I was driving up to process in, I wasn't too impressed. I saw the base and two pieces of track on the base during Halloweekends, I know it wasn't finished then. I just meant that I saw it during Halloweekends when it wasn't finished, but then I saw it again in May when it was finished. I'm not stupid, I know that the base and the two pieces of track weren't the WHOLE ride. ;)
